The cracker quilt block pattern is an easy and quick block to sew with so many possibilities. Perfect for beginners.
I've been seeing lots of quilt blog posts showing off their many finished quilts from 2014 and listing their goals for the year ahead. I am a little behind on reviewing the past year and making plans for 2015, but here goes! I was feeling like I hadn't accomplished much with my quilting last year, even though I spent lots of time sewing. However, as I review my lists of quilts started and finished, I am happy with my results and have made good progress on several projects. My biggest finish of the year was the Scrappy Sampler quilt. This was begun in 2013 as a block-of-the-month project, and I was thrilled to complete it in the fall. Scrappy Sampler Most of my other finishes were baby quilts--one for a co-worker, one for friends, and one for our niece and her husband. Bowties baby quilt Musical Stars baby quilt Surrounded by Love baby quilt I headed up a group at work to make a signature quilt when our boss retired at the end of July. It turned out great, and she was so surprised! Signature Quilt I also completed several quilt tops this year. One is for Quilts of Valor and will be submitted to them for quilting. Four were very simple pieced tops for the charity quilting at my mother's church. The rest are all at different stages of quilting/completion. At least a few of them should get finished this year. QOV Bowties One goal that I achieved this year was limiting my number of new projects. Of the dozen projects I started in 2014, all but four were either finished or at least became quilt tops. Four other UFOs/WIPs were completed, so my number of UFOs should be the same at the end of 2014 as it was at the beginning of the year. For 2015, I am keeping my goals rather vague instead of saying something like "I will finish 12 quilts this year." I hope to finish off some of those quilt tops that are so close to completion. I would like to make more Quilts of Valor and also some for children's charities. It would be great to finish up at least one of my old UFOs too. I hope to be able to find time for quilting every day, even if it is only 15 minutes some days. Any time spent quilting is good for my sanity. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all and HAPPY QUILTING! Julie in GA
I started work on the wedding signature quilt for a client. Since I built it in EQ7, it was easy to get started. I've cut the pieces for 80 blocks and already sewn about half of those. For today's inspiration, I thought I'd hunt down a few signature quilts on Pinterest in the hopes that I'd find some quilting ideas. The photos I've found don't really show the quilting, so I'm going to have to wing it. Oh well, it will be a while before I get to that anyway. The plan is to finish the quilt top and serge the edges. Then, during the wedding reception guests will sign the quilt top. Later the client will bring the top back so I can quilt it. Since the wedding is still about five or so weeks away, it will be a little while before I get to quilt it, but I am the kind of person who procrastinates by working ahead. I like to call it thinking. Enjoy the pins from my "signature, quilts" board. Does this look a bit familiar? So, which one do you want to make? Happy Quilting, Mary
p.s. i quilt: siggy block tutorial. Well I am working now on Marie's birthday signature quilt--see the pictures on my design wall. It is the same as the one I did for Auntie Eileen and for Margaret's b-day. We made the blocks, ironed them on freezer paper and put them out at the party with Micron pigma pens for guests to sign. I see now that this great site already has a tutorial for you all to follow to make a quilt like this of your own. So, I am making a link to this site for your enjoyment.

We're diving into the history of Drunkard's Path quilts and sharing five fabulous patterns featuring a modern twist on the traditional block!
I will begin working on a surprise quilt using signature blocks that will, of course, be signed by people who will be gathering together for a photo-shoot in May. We are working on a directory, so while we have as many people as possible, we want to get as many signatures as possible. Then it will be a matter of calling anyone who did not sign to ask that they sign a patch. While one event is in no way related to the other, we thought that mixing them up would help us to achieve both endeavors. Is that broad and ambiguous enough to keep the surprise secret? Actually, I'm fairly certain that the gift receiver does not read my blog, but I'm being careful anyway. The "we" that I've referred to are just some friends who are helping me to accomplish all of their goals. Did you catch what I did there? It's not even my idea or plan. I'm just the person who will be doing some of the sewing. Some of these signature block ideas are pins from when I made another signature quilt for a wedding back in 2013. Goodness it doesn't feel like five long ago. play with the arrangement to enclose the white spaces for signatures Reverse the colors so the signatures would be inside the tumblers Of course the blocks that I like the most are the ones that are very (VERY) non-traditional. Those last four are pretty awesome. I'd choose the first on the upper left, but I doubt that the people who instigated this work will appreciate my choice. I'm going to stick to tradition and probably go with this one that I created in EQ8. But of course, I need to speak to other people and get this design "approved." I think, though, that whatever I offer will be accepted since I've requested that we keep the plan simple so that other people can also work on the blocks. My hope is that I can cut and sew a few blocks before we meet so that others can get a gist of the idea. I also plan to have several fabric markers so that we can make most of the decisions in one meeting. If it doesn't work...well, here are a few plan Bs. Have a wonderful week, everyone.
