Impulsivity is a characteristic of human behavior that can lead to either seizing valuable opportunities or making disastrous decisions. It involves acting on urges or desires without taking time to think things through. Impulse control, on the other hand, is the ability to manage and regulate these urges by pausing to consider the consequences of one's actions. The Impulse Control Activities For Kids is a resource for child and teen clients struggling to manage their impulses, particularly in moments of excitement or distress. The top section describes examples of common impulsive behaviors, such as impatience, excessive talking, and other related actions. The bottom section provides seven practical tips on controlling these impulses. Children using this handout can develop the skills to make smarter choices, resist immediate impulses, and thoughtfully consider the possible consequences of their actions. Caring adults can provide support by asking relevant questions and teaching them to respond with logic and reasoning. For instance, asking questions like "What might happen if you act on this impulse right away?" or "Is there a better choice you can make that will help you in the long run?" encourages thoughtful decision-making. This handout can be found in our 29-page ADHD Handouts Bundle, which provides resources to assist kids and teens in understanding and managing ADHD symptoms. *This item is an instant digital download.
