However, after having this project on my list for 2 years now, I figured I’d just go with the momentum, whether it was past the holiday or not.This was...Read More

All done and I was finally able to get far enough away from it to get a picture without the flash washing it out. This is vibrant! My machine has a new belt, after only two trips to the quilt shop to get different belts, bring them home and try them. I had to reposition the motor a bit, but all seems to be working fine now, so I'm happy! Pictures and comments on this top are in Piecing 2011 Set 2. I need to make a new Set for this year!

This quilt has been in the works for a while, and in my head I'd deemed it our 'end of summer/early fall' quilt. It's primarily made from a charm pack of American Jane Happy Campers, and I will allow myself the disclaimer that this isn't my first choice for binding. But it's leftover from a…
My all time absolute favorite quilt ever. I love it so much!! My mum started it in the 1970's and finished it when I was a baby in the early 80's. It is made from all sorts of fabric, including curtains, her old school uniforms, sheets, everything! The red centres to each block are red velvet. I remember lying on this when I was little picking out all my favourite materials in it, it makes me so happy that it is still being used today!

Here is a little peek at my strawberry stars quilt, started on a whim because i fancied making the star quilt again but in pink and white for a light, vintage summery feel.....i am using my original star quilt pattern, shown below........ .....................lots of readers have kindly asked about this design and i am pleased now to say that the pattern (including all instructions and full-size templates for it) is in my new book.................... 'modern vintage gifts'............i don't have a picture of the cover to show you yet, but the book will be out in october and is available for pre-order on amazon already............ ..............making the english paper pieced diamonds is something i really love to do........ ...........it involves lots of stash busting too, of the pink fabrics filling my cupboard............ .............and i LoVe the pam kitty garden floral on white, it is so pretty, and is the perfect fabric to use to make the big hexagons for joining the stars........... .................i like how portable the project is....i can take a few epp pieces with me on an outing and stitch up a star in no time....... sometimes i cut out lots of pieces at once with a rotary cutter, or one at a time with a pair of scissors....very adaptable crafting.......and of course lovely to sew while watching movies or chatting to the family.............. ...............besides sewing i have been out in the garden too this past week............. ................here is our newly painted front door, and newly planted pot next to it............ ................and below is a quick picture of the potting shed, so bright and sunny now and filled with pots and plants and garden tools all being put to good use again............ ...............the beans and sweet peas are all planted in the garden now and seem to be doing well, despite strong winds at the weekend............the heavy rain seemed to make them quite happy...... .............i always plant some beans as seeds and some as plug plants, just to be on the safe side..... ...............some pretty nemesia, ready for filling up the pots............... ..................another newly painted door.......this is the door to the little shed which is outside the kitchen........it was probably the wash house in victorian times............it has never looked so smart, with its new coat of shiny paint............ ................thank you for dropping in here, dear readers, it is always a real pleasure to see you and to hear from you too..........wishing you all a wonderful week filled with happy times, sunny days and crafty inspirations..................back soon xxxxxxxxxxooooooooooooooooxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
To my mind, everybody loves scrap quilts. I'm probably biased. When i arrived back from our trip to the seaside i got on with hand quilting this scrappy summer quilt, and after just a few evenings it was done :) ...i quilted it round the edge of each square and then diagonally across the middle of the squares..........i chose a red and white striped binding for it, inspired by the striped awnings of the flower market in nice........ ..............i love the prints in this quilt, as well as the floral feel and the bright fruit appliques and i liked how the red and white striped binding brought it all together............. .................the backing is a gorgeous pam kitty picnic fabric with cherries and roses on yellow...... .............i love all kinds of quilts and a huge variety of patterns, but i know i will always want to make ones with simple squares (and maybe a bit of embellishment) every now and then...... ..............i enjoy using text prints as a decorative feature too, and love how they look with a colourful image appliqued on top, like the cherries below which are sewn onto a patch of sew mama sew fabric......... ............i took pictures of this quilt all around the house, as usual following the best light, as well as avoiding bright sunlight..........here it is on an old chair in front of a book case on the top floor of our old house............ ...........sometimes i like to add buttons to my quilts, and i had a little look at these fruit buttons from just another button company to see if any would look nice on my new quilt............. ...........i decided just to add the lemon slice to the patch which had lemons appliqued on it....... ...............here is daisy whirling and twirling with the new quilt.........the children use the quilts and the crochet blankets to make houses and tents and to wrap up their toys and each other :)............. ...............we thought the chicken might look pretty with the quilt too...........it is a money box and full of loose change at the moment so is very heavy............ .............just as my summer quilt is finished we are feeling autumn in the air............the weekend was a mix of autumn coolness, strong winds, grey days and some sunshine..........we had a special outing to a lovely garden where i took this photo of the golden dahlias............ ..............and i will leave you with this photo of the gorgeous zinnias which have been brightening up the cutting garden recently...........though a snail or two have been secretly munching on them over the weekend and the effect was not a good one.............. ..............thank you for visiting me today, lovely readers, it is so good to see you...........and thank you too for taking the time to leave a comment, it is always a treat to hear from you too :).............i hope you have a wonderful week ahead, wherever in the world you may be..............back soon xxxxxxxxx

Mother Goose Rhymes Copyright 1943 Saalfield Pub. Co. Akron, Ohio This book was tucked in a bucket in the darkest corner of a junk shop. It was the only thing I bought from the shop and is now a prized possession among many. The illustrations and almost lost limericks are now forever captured here to share. There are many sweet rhymes that have been lost through the years. Surprisingly it is bound in spiral. I haven't heard this version of Polly since nursery school. Poor Solomon Grundy? I will have you know I wash on Saturday...such a sloth! Four and twenty...and we wonder why our kids can't count know? Because everything does it for them! This is such a lovely book full of so much I have to do it in two parts...(next Friday will be the other half of the book.) Join me over at Corey's for another week of Lil' Vintage Story Books. Those little bird clips from my previous post were purchased from Amazon. You can find the link here...

On Saturday, I was lucky enough to join the ladies of the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild again for the monthly Saturday Sew. This was my second time to attend and it's really a fun way to spend a day. I highly recommend it if you are in the DFW area and would like to join the coolest quilt guild around. First, I finished up my signature swap blocks which I mailed out today. I'd show you a photo, but I left my camera (with the photo on it) at my mom's on Sunday, so I'll have to wait until I go fetch it. For today, I'm stuck with iPhone Hipstamatic photos. After I finished my signature blocks, I made a super scrappy Wild Flower Pincushion using the 1/2" hexagons I started on when I thought my swap pincushion was a flop. I ended up sending my partner the second red and white pincushion, so I guess I'll just keep this one. (Yea!) It's filled with walnut litter (crushed walnut shells) and I love the weight. I bought a seven pound bag in the bird section at Petsmart. The body of the pincushion is linen. I'll take a better photo after I retrieve my camera. My birthday was Sunday. My mom made me some yummy cupcakes. Shea assures me I don't look my age, but she may just be saying that to make me feel better. She told me her friend thought I was "like 29", so that made my day! Yea, I was 29. Almost 10 years ago! This year, I decided to be extremely blunt with my sometimes gifting-impaired husband, bless his heart. I told him he had two choices, a new dress form, or FQs of AMH's Little Folks voile. He said he thinks I have enough fabric (I have no idea what he's talking about!?!), so he wanted to get me a new dress form. I've had about four dress forms, but I've never had a really nice one. My favorite dress form to date was the one he helped me make from duct tape in 1993 when I was in college. I just threw it out last summer when we moved so I've been without for almost a year and I really miss having one. We had to order the dress form, so I picked up my own gift on Saturday so he could give me something on Sunday. I'm so thoughtful like that! A 24 pack of Sharpies with bonus Caribbean colors! Woo hoo! Sharpies rule! Thank you for the kind comments on the cheater print. I really hope it prints up nicely. The voting at Spoonflower doesn't start until July 7th, but I'll post about again when it's time. Have a great week!

A peek into my love of fabric, piecing, and quilting!
I don't know how winter has been everyone else out there, but here in Canada it has been extremely cold and snowy this year! I for one am soooo ready for Spring to make an appearance! So to warm myself up a little I thought I'd work on a summery photo. This is a photo I took a few years back of my oldest daughter when we were taking a summer vacation near Sable Falls in (Northern) Ontario. I've recently been putting together a color inspiration board for myself on Pinterest and I find one of my favourite color combinations is purples with greens, but I'm particularly fond of the these colors in soft smokey tones. So for this page I reached for some of the soft smokey plums in the Maja Design, 'Ska vi ta en Fika' collection and mixed it with some taupey grey and soft green from the Vintage Summer basics colleciton. I wanted to add some 'lush' greenery to the page so I matted behind the photo with some green paper from the Life In the Country paper collection (Sowing Seeds-bs), and added a new vine chipboard design from Dusty Attic called 'Ivy Corners' adding a few Dusty Attic purple roses in as well. I just love to add vintage style embellishments to my Maja Design layouts because the beautiful papers lend themselves so well to these types of embellishments, like vintage lace (from Tresors de Luxe), Natural floral accents (also from Tresors de luxe), chipboard designs (Skelleton clock and flourishes, from Dusty Attic Designs) and the Flowers are from a tin of blooms from Recollections. Clocks are one of those design elements that I feel work with almost any page. So again on this page I've added in some of my favourite clock designs from the Vintage Autumn Basics collection (XVI). When I get my Maja Design collections, I love to fan out the papers and enjoy how the different patterns and designs look against each other. I always want to share these pretty designs in a unique and fun way, ....here I was able to do this using a new chipboard by Dusty Attic called 'Geometric' border. I glued a small sampling of a few of the patterned papers behind the small square designs. And nope, that is not my handwriting you see above (I wish!), it's a little bit of rub-on I have from some old Daisy D's rub-ons I still have in my stash ....yep, still trying to add a bit of my older stash on each page :) Maja Design Papers used in this project: Ska vi ta en Fika (Söders höjder - bs, En Kopp te-bs, Chaite-bs, Favoriter-bs), Life In the Country (Sowing Seeds), Vintage Summer Basics (1932-bs), Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI). Note: I often get email from my blog readers looking for good sources for Maja Design products and Dusty Attic chipboard. I list links to retailers in the right side column of my blog but for a quick link you can check out these great resources.... http://www.thescrapbookdiaries.com/product-tag/maja/, http://moments-of-tranquility-shop.com/, http://www.etsy.com/shop/vickyalberto I hope you enjoyed my little project today using Maja Design products and hope that it brought you a little Spring warmth as well! xo

Happy Father's Day!! I hope all the dad's out there are having a great one! :D Today I am sharing a present that my kids made for their dad... When researching Inukshuks for our new Proudly Canadian set I discovered that people can make their own mini Inukshuks. I thought the kids would have fun building some. :) We bought rocks at Michael's (note - after they were done we found that our Dollar Tree sells the same bags, oh well! LOL) and started planning our Inukshuks. The hardest part is figuring out what glue will hold them. The rocks are polished smooth so you can't use hot glue... we wound up using a combo of Super Glue and E6000. The E6000 alone didn't work because to was too flexible and the rocks wiggled. The Super glue also bonds faster. Warning - they are VERY FRAGILE! My little guy broke them apart twice. I think that I'm going to do a little more research and see if I can find a better glue for rocks and re-glue these Inukshuks too. Here are the individual figures and a close up of the card I made... To make the card I typed up the Inuit definition and a few more philosophical meanings on Photoshop and then used a stamp from Proudly Canadian. I might poke around and see if I can find a better adhesive for rock - if I find anything I will update you all. :) My husband loved his little Inukshuks! I hope that you enjoyed seeing them too. Have a great Sunday! {{{ HUGS }}}
