SARAH has started the H2H Challenge for 2020. A lead in with 'Charmed I'm Sure' - simple quilts made from charm squares. You can find her informational page HERE for sign ups, sponsors, and list of donation sites, etc... **and you do have the option of donating locally** I've had this mock up in my files for a long time and since my year's goal is to tackle my animal patterns/fabrics - this is a great one to use for a H2H quilt. 2.5" squares would give you a 34"x42" (maybe add a border for size). 3.5" squares would give you a 52" x 63" finish. The first try had a lot of seam ripping as I found I had to work the pattern in sections (like a puzzle) to accomodate tail, face, and body being worked into the design. The second one is in progress and went a lot smoother as I had the bugs worked out of that pattern. This one I changed the 9-patch for a Rail Fence block and there is a reason for that. It all started with a fun Kaffe jelly roll - everything else is scraps or pull from stash. I have enough left - either full length or partial strips - to make a third quilt. That will be a stitch and flip method of quilt as you go. So from one JR and clearing out some scraps, I will have three bright and fun quilts for H2H. Sewingly Yours, Sharon
As part of the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge blocks, I am making a bird of the month in the color of the month. The woodpecker says that August is his month. The pukeko objected saying that he looks more like Angela's indigo sky than a stupid woodpecker although he was already the bird for May. Eventually there will be twelve owls, and they can be the jury.
I did bring my sewing machine to the little house, and I did get the orange crumb blocks done. Letβs look at my list from last week. I think that I am going to make placemats from the crumb blocks that I am making with the Super Scrappy color challenge each month. I went ahead...
Scrappy Pinwheel in a Square. Three challenges in one! Iβm so excited to share this new block with you all! Making a pinwheel block is a challenge, but then so is a square in a square block, β cutting all those extra triangles and then getting them lined up. More often than not these blocks β¦ Continue reading Scrappy Pinwheel in a Square β

For the April 2020 Color Challenge and Blog Hop I've created some fun, unique projects using the scrappy strips technique with the Under My Umbrella Bundle.

Made from strings less than 2 inches wide. The fabric in the middle of the blocks is Habitat Dandelions by Michele D'Amore for Bernartex. The dimensions of the quilt are 72" by 90". Just added some better photos of this one to join in with Rachel's Festival of Strings at Stitched in Color: www.stitchedincolor.com/2013/05/festival-of-strings.html I finished this top in April 2013, and I'm just waiting for inspiration to hit me for the back of it! And the quilting, and the binding.... :)
We have a monthly bucket list challenge over on Cbees. This month is flying geese. The purpose of the bucket list is to broaden your methods or techniques with a selected skill. If you want to join in the fun, you can join the group HERE . It is important to know that Cbees is a sister 'activity' list of Cyberquilters, so you must be a member of Cyberquilters first, before you can join Cbees. Now, stay calm. I know you are joining two yahoo groups, but they are some of the best quilting groups on the internet and membership is FREE ! LOL I'm tempted to say they ARE THE BEST quilting groups, but I also want to avoid receiving any hate mail from members of other groups. Okay, so I've been working hard, stitching bits and pieces into my Dizzy Geese piece. This is only the center of my piece. I know, it doesnt look like it should be two days worth of work. But, hey, this center piece finishes at 6-1/2 inches square. So, you're more impressed now? LOL Now, back to the borders. I'm anxious to get this done because I have other projects that I feel ready to get started. So have a Happy Day and see you soon.
Just as suspected last week, I have started far too many new projects for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over the past month. There's no way I can keep up with all of these. Let me show you what I'm talking about (regular RSC readers will have seen some of the following photos already.) All measurements listed are finished block sizes. #1 & #2. String blocks (6") and crumb blocks (4") #3. Rolling 9-Patch (5") #4. 30's Pinwheels (4") #5. Framed Crumb Star (12") #6. Orange Peel (3") #7. Stair Steps (6") #8. Tiny Tuesday/RSC Sampler 2019 (4.5") Here is a shot of most of these blocks together on the design wall. The missing blocks are the 30's Pinwheels and the Rolling 9-Patches, which I have already decided not to continue with as 2019 RSC projects. Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks, January, 2019 Oh no! EIGHT PROJECTS?! How in the world did that happen? Here I thought I wasn't doing much quilting in January. Just shows how wrong you can be. I certainly won't be able to keep up with all of these for the rest of the year. The current plan is to keep going on the following: 1. Orange Peels 2. Tiny Tuesday sampler 3. Stair Steps 4. Framed Crumb Star 5. Crumb blocks (tentative) Doing the Orange Peels provides my needed applique project for the train ride to work. I enjoy following along on the RSC sampler projects, and I can't wait to play with different layouts of those Stair Steps blocks. The Framed Crumb Star means I need to make at least one crumb block each month. Who knows how many more might happen. There, I guess I've settled on my RSC plan for 2019! Don't worry about the projects that didn't make the cut; they will be delayed until another time. The red 30's Pinwheels will join the other finished pinwheel blocks in my box of 30's projects, and there may be other colors joining them occasionally but not every month. The Rolling 9Patch blocks may become a little wall-hanging or table topper, perhaps with some more red blocks added because I have extra 9-patches already made. The string blocks will join some others from the past and wait for the right time to be used. It's time for me to make this week's Tiny Tuesday block, then start pulling out the yellow scraps for February. What are you making with your scraps? I am linking up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday and with Oh Scrap! at Quilting is more fun than Housework on Sunday. Be sure to check out all of the wonderful projects that everyone is sharing! Julie in GA
I never get tired of making scrappy quilts! I added a new project to my Rainbow Scrap Challenge list last month in an effort to use up more of the strips filling my 2 inch scrap bin. Carolina Chain is a Bonnie Hunter pattern. It's a variation on a 9-patch block which results in light and dark chains criss-crossing the quilt. This makes a great leader-ender project, as the cutting and piecing are quick and easy. I'll keep making these for the next year or so until there are enough for a quilt. Hopefully, they will put a dent in the 2 inch strip bin! I also paired up some random 2 inch scraps into 4-patch blocks. These go into the Parts Department and will eventually become part of another scrappy quilt. Tiny Tuesday blocks are great for using up small scraps. I'm glad I tried my hand at intense flip triangles for Sally's pink piglet. I chose the pink and brown fabric for the piggy body as it reminded me of chocolate-covered bacon! No pink scraps were harmed for another Burgoyne Surrounded block. I only need three more blocks for the BS quilt, so I'm looking through scrappy chunks of multi-colored prints on white backgrounds for block inspiration. I love these little birds, so decided to give them their own block. Ditto for this multi-colored fish print. It is now part of the Burgoyne scrappiness. Only one block left to make, and I'm having trouble deciding on colors and fabrics. It probably won't be this month's RSC color, light blue, but who knows where inspiration will lead?! More scrappy goodies to be seen at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge link-up!

I'm here again to share my Moda Blockheads 5 Block 4 quilt block . The Super Scrappy Star designed by Corey Yoder is just delightful!
Christina Cameli Blog: afewscraps.blogspot.com Flickr: afewscraps My inspiration for this quilt came from the movie "The Matrix": the computer screens showing long columns of code streaking downward, with the leading characters brighter than the others. The first time I saw that image it made me gasp. I wanted my quilt to have a similar sense of motion, depth and sparkle. It's a departure from my usual scrappy style and I was pleased to have something so striking develop out of a challenge that initially felt restrictive and borderline impossible. I chose a deep indigo for the background to provide strong contrast. I quilted with a free motion foot to quilt between the squares, allowing them to "pop" forward a bit. My friends keep referring to it as a waterfall, so I'm calling it "Cascade".

This is my second year of taking part in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, organised by Angela of Sew Scrappy. I really enjoyed my inaugural year so Iβm raring to go again. The only problem is deciding what to make from all the designs and patterns I have printed off! Finally, the decision has been made, Iβve been looking through my scraps, and some blocks have been sewn. The colour chosen for January is light/bright green. First I made some checkerboard blocks, eventually to become a donation quilt for a boy. Iβm doing the suggested colour with white, as it will be for a boy no pink or flower prints will be allowed! All the blocks will be edged with a black and white print. Once the pieces are cut and prepared, this is a nice easy block to make. Green checkerboard blocks Next up were butterfly blocks for a girls donation quilt. A little more fiddly to make, with some smaller pieces, and I now have three green butterflies ready to spread their wings. The butterflies will need strips around the blocks, I think, but maybe Iβll wait till they are all done and Iβm ready to assemble them. I think the secret with these RSC blocks is to get everything cut and prepared earlier then sit and do the stitching another day. Thatβs what Iβll be doing. Three green butterflies Believe it or not, but I have a third RSC project β this one will be for me. It involves some foundation piecing, and Iβm yet to start, so wish me luck. I just hope the design is not too ambitious for me β Iβll keep you posted.

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC) started many years ago with a simple idea. As quilters we all generate scraps from every project. Though using them is so much fun, the sheer volume can feel overwhelming. Rather than tackling the entire pile, bag or bin at time, why not do it in manageable chunks? By sorting your scraps into colors and tackling one color each month, using scraps becomes on ongoing project that will add color and variety to your quilts. There are lots of ways to play along with RSC. The simplest is to choose a block that works well with scraps and make some each month with the color of the month. Start with something simple like a nine patch or a string block. Pick a favorite pattern that would look great in all of the colors of the rainbow. When I announce a new color each month, just dig out some scraps in that color and make your blocks. You can do the math ahead of time to know how many you will need, or just collect blocks as the year progresses. Instead of a rainbow quilt, you could make small scrap friendly projects like placemats, scrap bins or even tiny baby quilts. There are no wrong ways to play along, as long as you are working to use up scraps and trying to focus on one color each month. Where will your scraps take you this year? Check back in on the Saturday Linky Parties so that we can all cheer you on. Each year, Stephanie is king enough to make tracking sheets with the new logo. Below, please find links to the PDF and "word" versions of the tracking pages. These will allow you to keep track of the blocks that you plan for this year. (For me, I will start with the block sets that never got finished last year) RSC24 Tracking Sheet PDF RSC24 Tracking Sheet Word January - dark and bright green February - March - April - May - June - July - August - September - October - November - block set completion and assembly December - quilting and finishing
Over the summer two of my favorite quilters made scrappy rainbow quilts. As I watched their quilts come together on Instagram, I got the itch to also make a scrappy rainbow quilt. Squared Up was just the perfect pattern to make this happen. So I grabbed my scrap bins and dug through them one day, grabbing the right siz
