Welcome to the Jillibean Blog Hop introducing their brand new line, Happy Camper Stew! I love the bold colors and icons in this line. I used some of my favorite patterns and die cuts to create this camping page. I love these photos of my son and niece roasting marshmallows on a recent camping trip. To highlight the photos, I created a sunburst effect with dark and light gray patterned papers from the collection. These are two of my favorite 'B' sides because of their subtle pattern and neutral color. I layered small and large patterns of paper for punches of color that compliment the photo. I used one of the title cards to add some themed camping critters and as a base to the embellishment cluster. The tone-on-tone title and camper die cut complete the page. Now go on and hop for more great ideas using Happy Camper Stew. Taking a quick breather to post here. I missed blogging for a while. Holidays, deadlines, creating for CHA and videos have kept me busy. But it's all quieting down now and we're settling into our slow winter routines. Quiet days spent indoors = lots of crafting time for Mom. I have a stack of Christmas layouts and project life Photo Freedom Projects to share. Let's start with this simple Echo Park one. Created with the This n That Collection. Pretty straightforward and linear, I used alternate strips of paper and stickers. The skinny title was cut with a Silhouette. This one was created using the by Winter Tortellini and Spinach Soup line by Jillibean Soup. Say that three times fast. Ha! The layout is divided into quadrants - 2 for photos and 2 for decorating. This left me a great space for layering some of my favorite patterned papers. This would be great to do with leftovers from a 6x6 paper pad. This is the start of my project life project using the Photo Freedom products by Echo Park. I used one each of all the page protectors they make just to get a feel for the system. I've never done project life style scrapbooking, so this was a challenge. I really liked it! I began the project with this traditional 12x12 layout. I used the Horizontal 4x6 Photo Sleeves to create this layout. All stickers and paper are from the Dear Santa Photo Freedom line. This is the 6x12 Photo Sleeve. I love how easy it was to combine an enlarged photo and then slivers of 3 different ones in one pocket. And if you're wondering about that oddly placed snowflake in 'Rockefeller', it's because I added an extra 'r' in there and the mistake was burning my eyes. This is the 4x6 Vertical Sleeve. I can see using this one again and again. For some reason, I've gotten in the habit of turning my camera to crop out background stuff I don't want in the shot. This means I probably have 10x more vertical photos than horizontal. This is the traditional project life photo sleeve. I tried to change it up a bit by cutting one enlarged photo (6x8) into three of the sleeves. It adds impact without taking away from the picture. In the bottom pocket, I filled it with punched circles, glittered chipboard and then a sprinkle or two of more glittered. I sewed it shut to make sure everything stays in place. And a quick close up of the glittery pocket. I have to say that working with the Photo Freedom project may have hooked me on this quirky & easy style of scrapbooking. There are a trip or two that I want to get into scrapbooks this way. I'm in the planning stages and hope to share a video soon of my progress.

Back in May I was asked to be a guest blogger for Bella Blvd. I was excited, because I love color and Bella does it really well! The first thing I pulled out to work with is the Lucky Starz collection. A rainbow of color and stars in 8 beautiful shades - perfect for this idea of a stitched page I had: I chose the colors that would best complement the photo and then set on handstitching color coordinated x's in between layers of patterned paper. This adds a little whimsical touch, texture and underlines the color. The photo is one of my favorites from our trip to Disney this Spring. The Dumbo ride has been completely redone and I was thrilled - but the look on Nico's face, yeah...not so much. I laugh every time I look at it. The journaling reflects on how I remember bringing him on this ride at 10 months old and how fascinated he was with it all. Now, Mom is the only one with her hands in the air! My second page focused on the Bella boy-themed line, Max. The all-over shark print caught my eye and I decided to base the page on this patterned. I stacked the photos, layers of patterned paper, stickers, die cuts and enamel dots all on the center of the page and overlapped them to create a strong focal point. The rest of the layout is pretty straightforward and linear. This is a really simple and easy design base that I keep coming back to over and over again. Thanks to Stephanie and Laura over at Bella Blvd for giving me the chance to create with their colorful, cool designs!

Pictures of my little guy making a Valentine for his favorite girl. This is a mix of Bella Blvd patterns from Winter Wonder and Easter Things lines. I love how Bella's color coordinate line to line. So easy to mix and match like this. The stickers are all from their Easter line, yet they are versatile enough for a Valentine's page. I used the graph sticker to add his sweet little writing. I think it adds a personal touch to the layout and ties in with the theme.
I've gotten so many ideas and pages from the Scraptastic's July Sail kit. I'm not sure if it's the cool nautical vibe or the fact that I'm desperately trying to hang on to what's left of summer. It seems like we just came back from California and I love looking back at these pictures. One of our favorite days was a very laid back afternoon on Mission Bay. The kids chose to rent a speedboat instead of going to the zoo. I think they were all theme parked out. I love everything about this sticker (the colors, the icons, the text) and I was determined to work it into the design. Adding a circle of handstitching and some random stickers, sequins and a date stamp give some lift to the flatness of it. Layers of patterned paper gave me a pop of turquoise and a shelf to put the title on. I used a little swipe of turquoise paint on the white wood background to soften the edges of the linear design. This page speaks to me. It highlights pictures that make me smile, a good memory and pretty layers of paper. It doesn't get better than that for me!
Back in February I was asked to be part of the design team over at Scraptastic Kit Club. It was good timing since I had been thinking about the premise of kit clubs and how much simpler it would be to create with one box of supplies instead of digging through every item I own to put something together. In March, I chose the It's My Life kit and Add-On. I loved every single included in this kit and especially the colors. One of my favorite part of putting layouts together is playing with color. I created this quick grid layout by cutting up one of the patterned papers. It gave me a place to layer bits and pieces, journal and add photos. Sewing the grid with aqua thread gives the white background a pop of color. Alternating flat and dimensional pieces adds texture to the layout. Filing in blank spaces with stamped text adds a handmade touch to pre-printed papers. I think the best part of Scraptastic is that you can choose between two kits every month. That way you get to decided what works best for your style and photos. That combined with great customer service and the fact that you can quit at any time without a fee, make joining risk free. Below are the sneaks for the April kits. On the left is Worth Remembering, and on the right is Let Me Go. This month I chose the kit on the left, Worth Remembering which is surprising because I usually stay away from pink and flowery elements. But I have these great photos of my niece and I've wanted to include more of her stories in my scrapbooks. It's this type of flexibility to chose a kit, that makes Scraptastic top notch! Seems so wrong to see this here. How can it be that Two Peas will soon no longer be? It's truly the end of an era. I've been around since the day they first opened 15 years ago. I had a weird fascination with these stickers of bald little babies (Bryce & Madeline, anyone?) and Two Peas was the only place that carried them. Years later, it was Two Peas that pulled me out of a creative funk. It was something to look forward to, escape to, aspire to. Becoming a Garden Girl was one of the most out-of-the-blue things that has ever happened to me. It wasn't a design team you could apply or and we jokingly compared it to the mafia - you don't find them, they find you. I've learned so much about design, technology, video and teaching over the years. Two Peas pushed me creatively, fed my story-loving soul. I will always be grateful for the opportunities that came from being a Garden Girl and most of all for allowing me to share my story and ideas with kindred spirits. Nothing good or bad stays the same. Today it was the good.

COLLECTION | My Mind’s Eye On Trend STORY BEHIND THE PAGE | I was going through my California trip photos when I came upon this imperfectly perfect shot. I had just enjoyed my favorite meal of the trip, Pollo Fundido at Casa Guadalajara in Old Town, San Diego. This dark photo brought me right back to that time and place. Sitting on the quaint patio with its twinkling lights, fountain and mariachi band playing in the background. Sometimes it those technically not great photos that capture the best, simple memories. DESIGN | The On Trend collection by My Mind’s Eye is all about generic stripes and dots with splashes of mint, pink and orange. I chose it because the pale colors set off the very dark photo. It has just the right amount of pop and festive (in the colors and polka dots) to set the stage. I kept this design very simple with just two major areas of layering. The first is the background made up of vertical strips of patterned paper layered on a horizontal stripe background. Next, a bed of layers to make the photo pop were created with a polka dot transparency, chipboard frame and tag. SUPPLIES | My Mind's Eye On Trend | Avery Elle Inks | Epson Wide-Formant Printer
There's no denying it, snow season is here! This is not my favorite time of the year in the Northeast, but I go with it and can appreciate the beauty and quiet that snowstorms bring. I wanted to highlight that with this photo of my husband and son sledding behind our house. Notice that I'm taking the photo from my nice, cozy home! The idea for this page came from these numbered Dear Lizzy chipboard tags. They are my favorite embellishment from the Saturday line and I wanted to highlight them. What better way to do that then to tell the story of all the blizzards we plowed through last season. I love how versatile these are - you can use them to count down any theme. They also add a really nice splash of color to the crisp, white background. This page design is clean and graphic. The black and white title gives it a nice clean look. By layering a script title from Dear Lizzy Hello and a smaller, plain Dear Lizzy Petals Thicker font, the title is bold and balanced. I love how the Dear Lizzy Petals Thickers look like "snow" is falling right in the letters. This story is a reminder to appreciate the little things that the coldest season of the year brings. Frostbite and all. SUPPLIES | click on the photos for more info:
KIT | Scraptastic July Kit STORY | I made this layout to document a seasonal tradition. At the start of every summer, I make my entire family ride the flying swings. Some go more willingly than others. I don’t have to force the kids, it’s the adults that give me lip. Our first trip to the boardwalk and this ride mark the beginning of the season. This time I was able to capture that tradition with a flying iPhone shot. Luckily I didn’t lose the phone and captured this great picture of my shoes over the boards. The colors in the photos + the candy colors in the kit went together like PB&J. VIDEO | Take a look at the video to see how the design process came together: I was able to highlight my favorite part of the kit – those big, colorful dots. Keeping the design on the clean and linear side compliments the photo + the ‘stuff’. And that’s where I’m happiest creating. I've been working and creating and moving my scrap space this month. Reflecting on what I'm grateful for and using up the beautiful warm October Hip Kit. Love this photo and memory of my boy and his turn at dancing with a princess. He did it because he knew it would make me happy, and that means everything. It's one of those Disney moments that I tuck away for when he's grown. The design came from the title. I knew I wanted to do a heart, so why not make it a real focal point. Stitching it in aqua blue and placing it so that it marries the wood and white paper borders anchors the page. The arrow through the heart was a last minute addition. The heart was looking too bold, too solid and weaving the arrow softened it up and made it a little more interesting. My something different. A trio of cards with some Pebbles paper and embellishments. It's nice to change things up and step away from making layouts. I like working on a smaller canvas and use up the bits and pieces that are leftover from my kits every month. This was my artsy attempt at using the Prima Watercolor Pencils. Totally inspired by the many paint swatches that are up around my new scrap space. I used a typewriter to get the words to fit just right. This design is clean and simple. The idea of the paint swatch and enamel dots in the heart are the something different here. Hello there! We are so lucky to have Nancy Damiano as our June 2021 Guest Designer, and she is with us today with one last project.... Hi there, Nancy here with my last guest post. This one was created in my Sunshine Life Crafted album using the cardstock stickers and ephemera from the June release. This one is a story about hope and a message I ran across written in the sand. The enlarged photo featured a large open space courtesy of blue skies! I filled this space with my title with CT White Puffy Alphabet stickers and a label sticker from the June release. It was all I needed to decorate the page. I created a bookmark of sorts by using vellum to create a spot for my story. This allows for a larger space for journaling while maintaining a sheer overlay of the right side of the spread which includes a page full of embellishments. On the right I created a collage with two additional photos and ephemera from the June release. A simple grid and a bit more story keep the design clean and fresh. My pages really came together quickly with the June release. The beautiful colors and designs make creating a snap! We just love Nancy's simple but detailed style, and it is reflected in this gorgeous spread. WE are so happy to be able to share some of Nancy's magic with you all. Remember to check more of her work on Instagram. Thank you so much Nancy for sharing some of your stories with us this month. WE have loved having you as a guest! XO

Today is all about the love. I hope you are celebrating it with your people! I've been making a lot of heart themed pages lately. In the spirit of the month of February and maybe to chase the weary ugly days of winter in the Northeast. So let's celebrate things we love. In this case - toys! This is a closeup shot of the Toys ‘R Us flagship store located in Times Square. It has a ferris wheel right smack in the center of the store and it’s my son’s favorite spot in all of New York City. I wanted to create a dreamy look to this design in contrast to the bold photo. Creating a frame of love and dreams was the objective. The puffy heart stickers were the perfect accent for this story. To create the raining clouds of words, I used a sewing machine to sew lines. The lines created the perfect place to anchor the Puffy Heart Stickers! Layers of white clouds cut from vellum gave the top of the design an airy feel and anchored those sewn lines. This is literally a shower of love (for toys). Using four different colors of the Letter and Number Stickers created a nice subtle sprinkle of words down the layout. A few glittery white enamel dots added just a punch of a different texture to the layout. I hope you’ve enjoyed this page about things we love. Happy Valentine's Day! I remember how excited I was when I got the email from Pink Paislee asking me to join the team last year. I was so excited! They were one of my favorite companies and I was looking forward to working with them. It's was a great opportunity for me and an excellent company to work for. I can't believe it's been a year already! Time to move on though and explore different opportunities and mediums - and I'm really looking forward to that. Here are a few of my Pink Paislee projects that I recently completed. Using the Nantucket line and Coredinations cardstock to make this vacation page. I made this "heart" you page using the 6x6 pads from the Vintage Vogue and Nantucket lines. Using the "stitched heart" shape and the Silhouette Cameo. Love how clean this machine cuts intricate shapes! And my last page, using the Vintage Vogue line on this page about my grandparents' love story. I love how this turned out, even if my picture isn't the greatest... If you'd like to work for a great company and be part of an amazing team, I would encourage you to visit the Pink Paislee website and apply for their new 2012 design team. I couldn't recommend them enough!

This month I've been working with the Scraptastic Heart it Races Kit and Add-On. I chose this set to work with because I love all the bright colors and graphic feel. It can be used for so many different types of pages and that's what I tried to do this month - a mix of every day, vacation, girl centered and neutral layouts. This file folder paper from Maggie Holmes latest collection is one of my favorites. I cut it up here and used it to balance out a enlarged photo from my son's birthday party. The story is about our tradition of gathering the balloons and doing a release at the end of all his parties. It's one of my favorite moments and I was lucky enough to have this picture of it. This page was built around the colorful "paint swish" paper from Chickaniddy's Scrumptious collection. I thought it would make the perfect backdrop for some of our Disneyland photos. This one is the moment the kids first hit Main Street in all their silly glory. The last layout was created around another favorite pattern - the stacked titles in this bright Studio Calico paper. It gave me a great girl palette to work with. The story here is about just that - the little girl in our lives and how even in the midst of boy centric Legoland, she finds the brightest pink girl spot. Three very different pages all created with one kit. That's what I love about Scraptastic and how they put things together. The kits are packed and the palettes work with all types of photos. Makes my life easier for sure!
Scrap Your Stash Every 4 weeks I dig into my stash and pull out something I've been sitting on for a while. You know those embellishments that keep piling up or that collection pack that gets buried under the new stuff. It's a challenge coming up with new ways to use things up. I'm much better at hoarding them. That's why having a video assignment like this is good for me. It forces me to think out of the box (I try to anyway) and I make a dent in my collection. My stash of flair was up this week. And this is the end result.... There's a process video so you can see how it came together... And then a few of the other examples I worked on. This first one is a 'border of flair'. What I love most about it is the Lucky Charm collection with it's bold red and navy colors and beautiful patterns. You'd think the collection is more on the feminine side, but I've been using it a lot for layouts about Nico. These are photos + stories about the first time he visited the Hershey Chocolate Factory in Pennsylvania. His little chocoholic self was loving it! This next layout shows a cluster of flair, leading the eye around the page. The photos are old. Nico was right around four here and that was his cute BFF Abby. They were very sweet together and I'm glad I got this memory down in his book. Still working on doing more videos for the blog. I enjoy it, just wish I had more time!
It's time for the Echo Park blog hop. Leave a comment to be entered! I decided to highlight just a single photo on this layout about DS and his silly cousins. It was the best photo in the batch and was perfect for the story I wanted to tell. I used the So Happy Collection by Echo Park with it's bright, happy colors and patterns. Using a completely neutral background, let's all of those colors shine without competing. I love the carnival font alphabet stickers in shades of orange, red and hot pink. The journaling block was started by cutting a block of polka dots on the Silhouette. This added texture and a pop of color. The houses and cloud stickers were used to reinforce the "family" theme of the page. The journaling was printed on a strip of double-sided card stock from the collection, trimmed on one side with decorative scissors and folded and stapled on the other. This was a fun, happy page that came together quickly! Welcome to the Echo Park Paper Design Team Blog Hop! Today the Echo Park Paper Design Team is showcasing projects from our latest collections. I know that the 'believing' days in this house will probably end way before I'm ready. Nico still believes in the magic of Santa with his whole heart. He knows kids at school that don't, but mostly he thinks they're crazy, foolish kids. Nico can be just a wee bit bossy and if he says Santa is real, then it just is. I'm preparing for the inevitable though. For now, I'm enjoying this little bit of magic... I was trying to come up with a way to use all of these wood circles by Studio Calico. The package comes full to the brim with different sizes and edges. Filling the circles with patterned paper, flair and a photo added dimension and design to this page. It also used up a whole lot of them without overwhelming the photos. This layout is copyright twopeasinabucket.com The title was cut with the Silhouette and the font is Lobster. A cluster of tags at the upper right, enamel dots and some journaling complete the layout.
I've been binging shows for probably two years now and it never occurred to me to document what I watch! When I got Elle's Studio TV Journaling Tags it was the perfect opportunity to do just that. I started by getting photos from Google and printing them out at 3x4. These would be the base of my layout. I used my Silhouette to cut out large numbers and then laid those over the pictures in favorite order. The center card is where I wanted to put all the color and fun in. I used Elle's tiny alphabet stickers to repeated run the word Netflix down the card. I love that it personalizes the card and that the alphas match the colors in all of Elle's cards seamlessly. I love the matching TV Stamp Set that coordinates with these cards. I used a bit here and there to add some text and punches of colors to all of the cards. I love the charm that stamping adds to my project life spreads. Take a look at the Elle's Studio cards and kits. They are chock full of design and color goodness. A favorite of mine for sure. The minute I opened the new Felicity Jane Sophie kit, my first thought was 'candy'! This color palette of pink, yellow, aqua and a dash of navy is one of my favorites. It reminded me so much of all the Disneyland pictures that I had waiting to be scrapbooked. I chose this favorite photo of the castle and sketched out an idea that would really highlight the magical theme. The floating stars were inspired by the puffy stars in the kit. I needed a place to ground them and using large stitched stars was just that spot. The pretty stars is where the idea started. By making one larger star and using the kit stamp to personalize it, a custom embellishment was created. It lends weight to the upper left hand corner of the layout, balancing all of the elements. The rubber charm "sweet" adds a nice dash of pink color to all the white in the center. It's also as a grounding spot for my story. To create a layered title that pops, I like to combine a script font with a bold one. The Sophie kit is chock full of beautiful embellishments, a sweet color palette and an entire sheet of 12x12 cut aparts. Everything that you need to tell your beautiful little stories! The older my boy gets, the more I want to document these traditions. It's amazing how much they change in just a decade. I remember him toddling along the Christmas tree farm at 2 with a reindeer hat and me following behind. Now it's all about keeping up with him and poking fun at the Frozen "Let it Go" song that makes us both shudder. I want to remember all of the stages! I wonder how long it will be before we have a girlfriend tagging along. Double shudder. Every month Elle's Studio wows me with their clean graphic style. It's perfect for how I want to tell my story. This month's kit includes some really fun cards with tradition and non-traditional colors (hello, touches of purple!). I think it really gives my project life album a nice variety. While the monthly kit gives me a great base, the add on puffy stickers and tiny alphas let me add custom touches to the cards. Here's to another season of traditions and merry making! When I opened the Summer Kit, the first paper that caught my eye was this beauty. The perfect shades of a summer sunset with a kick. This picture of Nico makes me laugh, it so him. Laid back + funny + waiting on the world to cater to him. That's my kid. The sole picture tells the story perfectly so it's all I needed. That left we with a lot of space to get creative. I started the canvas by brushing some acrylic paint on the white background to match the aqua in the photo. All of the things I used on this page came from Scraptastic's July Sail kit. While it has a definite nautical theme, it also includes a lot of pieces that can be used for telling any story. The circle die cut is the perfect place to add little bit and pieces. I love details - they're one of my favorite things to design. I cut up strips of aqua paper and layered them under the photos and embellishments. This adds a layer of texture and shape to the base. I used Staz-On ink to stamp on the painted background. The paint anchors everything on the layout. It made putting the rest of pieces together easy and highlights the photo. Layers of tags by Scraptastic and a journaling card from Carta Bella add just the right punch of bright color.
