Thorough preparation can make all the difference in succeeding in a job search. Here's how to make sure you close strong in your next interview.
"I think you're going to make a big mess." That's how my 10-year-old answered the question, "What do you think is going to happen?" I had everything set up for this experiment and my boys were on full alert. While it was a little messy, it was also totally awesome. Here's how we poured water down a string and what you need to do it too. Supplies Pitcher Water String (we used a tightly woven yarn) Wide-mouthed glass or jar What to Do Fill the pitcher with water. A small pitcher will work best; our large pitcher was too heavy for my boys to pour slowly and steadily. Tie one end of the yarn around the pitcher's handle. Drape the string over the pitcher's spout and take the dangling end and hold it on the inside rim of your glass. Hold the pitcher at an angle and gently pour the water. You may drip some water at first so have a towel handy. IMPORTANT: the string must be touching the spout. A fuller pitcher means you won't have to tip it so drastically. Watch as water cascades along the string, clinging to it, until it reaches your glass. How It Works This is a great experiment to illustrate the principle of cohesion (particles of the same substance sticking together). Once the string is wet, the newly poured water wants to adhere to the water molecules already absorbed by the string.
By the time you get to senior level positions in a company, you should know how interviewing works, and what needs to be done to close the deal and get the job.
Pythagorean Theorem Coloring Activity This is a fun way for students to practice finding missing side lengths in right triangles using the Pythagorean Theorem. There are 12 problems total, 8 with diagrams and 4 word problems. Students solve the problems, identify their answers at the bottom, and color the flip-flops accordingly. All answers are rounded to the nearest tenth. I thought I would share some of my favorite online science resources. I love scholastic's studyjams! They have short math and science videos about many topics and the kids love them. I usually use a short clip for an activating strategy. Next, I love simulations! PhET offers FREE fun, researched based online simulations. http://phet.colorado.edu/ My husband loves BBC for the show "Top Gear" but I love BBC for all of the free education resources. They have games, lesson ideas, video clips, and more! http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/ PBS has great short videos on cool science jobs! They also have science experiments and science fair help. The kids love the games. http://pbskids.org/dragonflytv/ Check out these sites...they are full of science fun and information! My TPT store: I am currently working on science units (force and motion with Mercy, prediction, observation, and inference with Epossumondas) to go with several of my favorite books: If you have never read a Picture Perfect Science book, I highly suggest it! A great resource for teachers! Also, check out my latest post on "Critters in the Classroom"!

The heart-rending story of a child 'Tampa' refugee who grew up to become a Fulbright scholar, highlighting the plight and potential of refugees everywhere. When the Taliban were at the height of their power in 2001, Abbas Nazari's parents were faced with a choice: stay and face persecution in their homeland, or seek security for their young children elsewhere. The family's desperate search for safety took them on a harrowing journey from the mountains of Afghanistan to a small fishing boat in the Indian Ocean, crammed with more than 400 other asylum seekers. When their boat started to sink, they were mercifully saved by a cargo ship, the Tampa. However, one of the largest maritime rescues in modern history quickly turned into an international stand-off, as Australia closed its doors to these asylum seekers. The Tampa had waded into the middle of Australia's national election, sparking their hardline policy of offshore detention. While many of those rescued by the Tampa were the first inmates sent to the island of Nauru, Abbas and his family were some of the lucky few to be resettled in New Zealand. Twenty years after the Tampa affair, Abbas tells his amazing story, from living under Taliban rule, to spending a terrifying month at sea, to building a new life at the bottom of the world. A powerful and inspiring story for our times, After the Tampa celebrates the importance of never letting go of what drives the human spirit: hope.
