I have had to dig really deep in order to explore the events that primarily took place whilst I was completing sketchbook no. 2. It was not easy to give myself permission to do this, as I’ve had to extract myself from behind a curtain of shame that surrounds the breakdown of my marriage in 2015.
These wind catchers were an Earth Day project that got left behind. All you need is crepe paper, scissors, washi tape and sticks. Cut a length of crepe paper no more than 14" and roll it up, leaving an inch or two free at the top. Use your scissors to make two to three cuts across the fold. If your kiddo is a scissors novice, you can draw two lines for them to cut on. Unroll the crepe paper and shake it up. You now have a nifty mini-pom of sorts. Repeat for each color of crepe paper you choose to use. We used five colors. Gather up your streamers and twist at one end. Hold streamers against stick and wrap a length of washi or masking tape around and around. We used sticks from a cut grape vine. Take your kiddos out on a walk to search for the perfect stick. They can even paint them up if you like. Give your wind catcher a shake and take it outside for a spin! Have fun!

After our big move from California to Iowa, I became a stay at home mom for the first time. In the almost eight years that I have been a mom, I have always worked at least part time. So I was thrown into not just being home with my kids every day, but home with them all day during summer vacation! This called for a plan. I again searched the internet for some daily schedule ideas and then created one in Publisher for our family. Our Daily Legacy blog has a great themes for each day of the week (plus a daily schedule and a summer checklist with fun things to do), but I really loved the bright rainbow colors of a schedule I saw on Pinterest (with no link to original post). Here is the schedule that I made for the kids this summer: I wasn't super strict on following the schedule each and every day, it was summer vacation after all, but the schedule really helped cut down on the 18 million questions like, When is it gonna be snack time? or When can we watch tv? All I had to to do was direct the kids to the schedule and then they knew what to expect.
