Painting by Dan Craig. Source Source If you have been around the blog a while you know that we have two dogs, Cicada, our black lab, and Hallie, our Golden. Cicada or "Cada" joined our family first and is now 8. She came to us the summer of our 17-year cicada infestation here in Illinois and she ate those nasty bugs like they were candy every day as a puppy, thus the name. She is a lover. Great personality and has an internal time clock that you could set your watches to -- reminding you of her feeding time with a 3 to 5 minute accuracy. Don't know HOW she does it. Funny kid. Source We love her like crazy but that is not my reason for this post today but you will see soon why a new piece of art has come into our home. Wonderful watercolor print by Etsy's Ron Krajewski About a month ago I got a call from my friend Eric who I have referred to as "my personal shopper" here and here. He was in an antique shop in Chicago and spied this watercolor for me. Sorry about the reflections! It is HUGE at four feet tall. Hard to photograph it because of the glass but you can see why we love it! It's Cada! Had to share it. It just kind of works here, don't you agree? :) Pay no attention to my hand in the reflection!

The troupe of wild animals in Bruno Pontiroli’s paintings contort their bodies into backbends and handstands that would rival even the most accomplished gymnast. A wrinkly hippo balances on its tongue, a tiger arches its torso into a 90-degree angle, and a hyena rotates its hind legs in the air. The French artist (previously) notes that he begins the bizarre artworks with easily-recognized animals that he then shapes “like the way a child plays with modeling clay or a building set for instance,” morphing a simple depiction of a nimble lion or hare into a peculiar new reality. Calm, flexible, and undeniably adorable, Lucia Heffernan’s brood of chicks would likely be the star students of any yoga class. The fluffy creatures curl into backends, contort into triangles, and stretch their feathered little bodies into warriors and dancers in perfect alignment. Heffernan is showing the lunging and twisting characters through December 15 at CODA Gallery in Palm Desert, California, and even though all originals are sold, you can still shop prints on Etsy and see the entire troupe on Instagram.
