It can be tricky to find the right BBQ sauce. Not too spicy and not too sweet. I came up with recipe out of desperation when we ran out of BBQ sauce as I was about to serve a huge group. I created this recipe and everyone loved it, so now I don\'t buy it from the store. I just whip up this easy, reduced sugar recipe. Traditional BBQ sauce has around 19 grams of sugar per serving. This homemade sweet and sassy reduced sugar recipe has only 9 grams of sugar per serving and makes an extremely tasty addition to any meal.

These “mints” have a smooth, buttery flavor that’s somewhat reminiscent of very thick frosting.
Adapted from Honey & Co. Baking Book by Sarit Packer and Itamar SrulovichI used leftover cookie bits in the babka which dialed up the chocolate flavor beautifully, but you can omit them. (The recipe is the Chocolate Wafer Cookies in .) Or if you are on a nut-free diet, you can omit the nuts and just use the cookie (or brownie) bits. This can, of course, be made by hand without a stand mixer. Simply mix the ingredients for the dough in a mixer bowl, then turn the dough out onto a lightly floured countertop and knead until smooth. One interesting variation I saw was using spelt flour in this adaptation of the same recipe: .The original recipe said to chill the dough after the initial mixing, after step 3, for at least 6 hours, or overnight. I made it several ways – including once rolling it out right away, and it worked fine without the overnight in the refrigerator. But usually doughs like this improve if left to rest overnight, so if you can wait that long, I’d do that.

Yes, I know fall officially made it's entrance on Saturday. And while I am excited for the fall season to be upon us (it is my favorite season after all!), I am also not quite yet ready to give up summer. The husband and I are still breaking out the grill at least once a week, and probably will continue to do so until the first snowflakes start to make their appearance here. The other evening we decided to grill some drumsticks basted in homemade barbecue sauce for dinner. Making barbecue sauce from scratch is much easier than you probably think. Mince up a little garlic, dump everything into a small sauce pan, and let it simmer. That is not to say that I am not sometimes guilty of using the store bought bottled stuff, but none of them have compared to my own homemade sauce. I base my favorite barbecue sauce off of THIS ONE from Martha Stewart. I had a handful of golden raspberries sitting in my fridge and decided to incorporate them into my sauce. You could also use regular raspberries. There happens to be a vendor at our local farmers market who grows golden raspberries in her garden, and we were lucky enough to snag a pint of them over the weekend. What you will need: 1/2 cup of raspberries (golden or otherwise) 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup of ketchup 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 1 tbsp of whole grain Dijon mustard 2 cloves of garlic, minced Heat a small sauce pan over medium heat. Toss in the raspberries and the brown sugar. With a wooden spoon, mix and mash the berries allowing the brown sugar to slowly melt. Add the rest of the ingredients to the sauce pan, and continue to cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Turn down the heat to low, and allow the sauce to simmer for at least another 5-10 minutes until it has thickened up. Remove from heat. Brush it on your chicken and grill, basting it often with more of the barbecue sauce. So, sit back and savor summer just a tiny bit longer. There will be plenty of time for the pumpkin flavored everything soon. ;)
