This is a sad occasion for me today - my last post for the Scottie Crafts blog. I have really enjoyed designing with these Kaisercraft ' Now Boarding' Papers. Although they are a travel themed collection they are versatile enough to be used for many other pages. Here I have used the 'journey' theme to refer to a figurative rather than a literal journey. The last two weeks have been very busy in our family as our youngest little boy turned 5. In NZ turning 5 is a big milestone as a child usuallystarts 'big school' shortly after his 5th birthday. Benji seems too little to be a school boy - look how tiny he looks in his uniform and floppy hat! Nevertheless he is excited about the transition and his big sister Sophie is absolutely thrilled to have a little brother at school with her. I used a Ranger mask (also from Scottie) to make the big black ink splats on the background page. I piled up patterned paper, tags, ephemera and stickers to mat my photo, basing the design of the layout on the current sketch at 'Sketchabilities'. I really loved this sketch so I adhered fairly closely to the positioning of elements, adding a cluster at the bottom left of my page to hold the journaling and balance out the 'weight' of the page. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the awesome staff at Scottie Crafts all the very best for the future. These ladies are such a talented bunch and I have gained so much inspiration, encouragement and support from Scottie Crafts over the years that I have had the pleasure of being part of their team. I will so miss popping into the store whilst my girls are at dance, chatting to Wendy, Adrienne or Bev and leaving with far more than the 'white cardstock' I had intended to buy :) Very best wishes everyone from all the Groen family!
Hello there! Today I have a card for a very sad occasion. One of our dear friends from StampTV, Lynn Brookside has passed away and I made this card to send to her daughter. Lynn was such a wonderful person, always leaving kind and encouraging comments for me and so many others. Despite living in constant, chronic pain, she always had a cheerful outlook to share with the rest of us. I'm going to miss her. Melanie, who knew Lynn much better than I wrote a very touching post about Lynn, which you can find here and even more here. I hope you'll stop by and read it. I knew Lynn was a special person, but didn't realize just how special. Before I get started I want to let you know I began with a piece of Pure Luxury White card stock that is much larger than in the finished project. That is because I made a mistake later that caused me to have to cut it down. So I started by sponging Memento Cantaloupe ink at the bottom of the card stock. Then sponged some Memento Tangelo above the yellow. Sponged Memento Angel Pink above the orange. Then I sponged Memento Summer Sky from the top down. Then sponged just a tiny bit of Memento Danube Blue at the top. To make some wispy clouds, I colored some wide lines with BV000. Then added a little BV01. I made more lines with YR61. Then more with C1. I used C3 to add some shading to the C1 lines. Stamped the silhouette foliage, from Country Roads, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I used torn sticky notes to mask the background and sponged a narrow band of Tuxedo Black ink. Moved the sticky notes higher and sponged Memento Gray Flannel. Here is where I messed up. I stamped the windmill, from Country Roads, with gray ink and decided it was too light, then tried to stamp over it again. I didn't line it up well enough, so I just trimmed that section away. Next, I stamped the dragonfly, from Follow Your Dreams, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and used B00 to begin coloring the wings. Added B02. Then I added V04 and used B02 to blend. I didn't get a photo for the next step, but I used N03 to color the body. After coloring, I cut out the dragonfly. I stamped the sentiment, from Heartfelt, on my background, using Tuxedo Black ink. Then I adhered the dragonfly using Pot Dots. The card base is Pure Luxury Little Boy Blue and size is 4 ¼ by 5 ½ inches. I used Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® A2 Matting Basics B to emboss a frame on the card base. The background was layered with a piece of Pure Luxury Black Onyx. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day! Hi stampers! Hope your week is starting well...we had a perfectly HOT day yesterday, very odd for April; in fact, the whole spring has been crazy weather-wise! But I'll take it! Today, our Stamp Ink Paper challenge is a tic-tac-toe, just in time for those last-minute Easter cards! For my card, I chose the left vertical column of pink, bunny and diecut! And here we go: I wanted to use the bunny from Every Occasion...I am so sad it is retiring, I barely had enough time to use it! (Did you see the retired list? I haven't had much time to look through it, but I did see a few favorites that are not returning!) There are lots of fun little images in this set, and I thought this one was extra-sweet! I stamped the bunny image in Sweet Sugarplum, fussy-cut it out and mounted it on a double wreath from Swirly Scribbles. I added some flowers, a little sentiment and a linen thread bow! To complement the little greenery on the bunny, I heat embossed the background panel with a retired Cornish Heritage Farms background stamp with white craft ink and white embossing powder. I framed it all with a stitched frame from Pretty Pink Posh: This color is really growing on me, I am loving it more and more! I hope you will stop by the SIP blog to see what the other designers did with the tic-tac-toe board, and then share your creation with us as well! Can't wait to see what you come up with! I took Cassidy to Longwood Gardens yesterday...actually, we did lots of stuff yesterday (and I was beat!), but I'll share more photos during the week! Here are a couple from the treehouses: I really love how this one looks like she is holding a ray of sun!! And checking out some catfish in the lake: It was a beautiful way to spend a beautiful day! Be blessed! It was Hubby's Birthday last week, and he's not really a fan and doesn't really get into the spirit of all the fun that comes with having a birthday. I of course still decided to make him a card, but I've learnt there isn't too much point going "all out" for him as he only say's "That's nice!" when he gets it. So the card I made him, literally took me about 15 minutes, and it only took that long because I couldn't decide on which colours to use! I of course turned to my trusty "Go to Man Stamp" Gorgeous Grunge because it can make any card look brilliant in just a matter of a few stamps. Now I do use it a lot for my guy cards, but it's so versitile that I've used it for any occasion, even vintage chic cards. The sentiment is from the new stamp set 'Words of Truth' and it suits Mr.E right down to the ground, as we all think he's pretty awesome around here!! I have to say I love this new sentiment set. So many fun pharses and the typewriter font is so on trend at the moment too. Now I know you don't usually add any glitter to a guys card, but I didn't think the gold metallic thread, classed as sparkly and it just gives it a nice little touch!! Oh and I almost forgot to mention our new Thicker Whisper White Cardstock!!! It is brilliant for stamping and now perfect thickness to be used as a card base. I reckon the Craft Angels were singing the Day Stampin' Up! finally decided on this!! When I gave it to Mr.E, he looked at it and "Oh, that's nice" and moved on... Hi Everyone, The theme for this hop is the New Annual Catalogue which is full of exciting new things to play with. I've chosen to use the Cheerful Daisies bundle and teamed it with Subtles dsp stack in Bubble Bath which is one of the new Core Colours and is very pretty and combined it with an old favourite, Melon Mambo. Materials 1 piece of Melon Mambo card stock 5 7/8" x 8 1/4", scraps for the flowers 2 pieces of basic white card stock 3 7/8" x 5 5/8", scraps for the flowers and sentiment 1 piece of Subtles dsp in Bubble Bath 3 5/8" x 5 3/8" Cheerful Daisies stamp set Cheerful Daisies dies Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine Basic Rhinestones Melon Mambo ink Bubble Bath ink Nature's Prints stamp set Trimmer Simply Scored Bone Folder Multipurpose Adhesive Dimensionals Instructions On the long side score the Melon Mambo at 4 1/8" and fold and burnish to make the card base. Adhere one piece of the basic white to the card front and then add the dsp layer to that. Die cut the clump of three flowers in Basic White, then die cut the solid flowers and the intricate tops of those flowers in Melon Mambo to add some more depth and interest. You can cut all the layers in just one colour but I thought I would try two to see what it looked like and I have to say that I like it. Die cut two of the twiggy pieces. Snips the white flowers apart carefully to make three separate flowers, then add the white layer to the solid melon mambo pieces and then add the intricate melon mambo pieces over the top. They are really easy to line up so that they match. Add dimensionals to the back of the flowers and arrange them on the card front, make sure you leave enough space below them for your sentiment. Tuck in the twiggy bits around them, split them apart to make smaller bunches if you like. Stamp a sentiment on a scrap of white and then die cut using the label sentiment from this die set and add to the card front using dimensionals. On the remaining piece of white, stamp a sentiment in the centre and add a flower to the bottom right corner. This is a two step stamp and I have used Bubble Bath as the solid layer and added Melon Mambo for the detail. Adhere to the inside of the card. Sprinkle some rhines stones on the card front and the card is complete. Please pop over and see what everyone else has chosen from the New Annual Catalogue.
