The rose window is one of the most representative elements of Gothic art and architecture. In this work we analyze fifteen rose windows from fifteen Gothic cathedrals using fractal geometry. Specifically, we examine the texture and roughness of these rose windows focusing on three factors, their designs, glass areas and solid areas. In this investigation we generate parameters which provide a measure of roughness of the rose windows in order to find out if they show a general non-random fractal pattern. The paper concludes that statistically, there is a characteristic fractal pattern in the solid and glass areas of the rose windows of the Gothic style, but not necessarily in their overall design.
Interesting drawings, that become even more so, the more you find out about them. I will let Artist and Educator August Lamm, use her own words, to tell you a little more about herself: "I studied South Asian and Islamic art history at Wesleyan University. Now I live in Paris and draw for clients around the world." A lot of her work, is done using a style called cross hatch and has a really interesting way of displaying her work. 1. Some of the drawings, look like an evolution, for example the egg to the chicken or the caterpillar to the butterfly. 2. then there are those that show a variety, within a certain section, like for examples the flowers. 3 Then there are straight forward drawings, in which the pen interacts with the image. 4. finally, on the market, there are different size fineliners, depending on how thick you want your line to be, in most drawings, the image has the corresponding fineliner beneath, or above it, showing the thickness of the nib used, some of them are expressed in numbers. there might be more that I have missed, see if you can catch it. Vanni Saltarelli was born in Lombardy (Italy) in 1945. He studied art in Milan and started exhibiting his work in 1964. His early participation in competitions has won him numerous awards. Salterelli’s paintings are characterized by a highly dynamic representation of the figure in motion. Harmoniously expressionistic, the female form is balanced with a tension between color and graphics. His paintings are part of important collections in the U.S. as well as in Europe and a significant book has been published on his work.

Oil on canvas; 205.8 x 141 cm. Mark Rothko (Latvian: Markus Rotkovičs, Russian: Марк Ро́тко; born Ма́ркус Я́ковлевич Ротко́вич; Marcus Yakovlevich Rothkowitz; September 25, 1903 – February 25, 1970) was an American painter of Latvian Jewish descent. He is generally identified as an Abstract Expressionist, although he himself rejected this label and even resisted classification as an "abstract painter." With Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, he is one of the most famous postwar American artists. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Rothko www.nga.gov/feature/rothko/
