Every day, I get questions about the scrapodex and I thought I would do a little post to answer a few of the questions I get. The vintage rolodex that I use holds cards that are 2 1/4" by 4"....
My friend Pamela introduced me to Rolodex art a few years ago. I had never seen them before and when I saw some of her displays, I was amazed and very much inspired. What an incredible idea. Use Rolodex cards as places where to make art, and then have them on display for inspiration late

The first art exchange of 2022 was a resounding success. I've affixed postage on 202 envelopes that go out on Monday. Now I have the pleasure of sharing some of the amazing art that I exchanged. I couldn't take 200 photos of all the submissions unfortunately, but I have about 20 sets to share with

"V is for vote". Not only is this election the most important election in my lifetime, this year marks the 100th anniversary of women officially getting the vote, across the nation. Like many, I am hyper aware of these two events, and am so grateful for the privilege and the responsibility
Remember the days of old paper rolodex cards? Now we are taking them to a new level -- altering and decorating them in a way that they never were before! Post your pictures of altered rolo cards, and your rolodex holders too! Please be cautious about showing the address side of your cards. For security, it would be wise to blur or otherwise cover any identifying address & contact information.
Trudging away on my little Rolodex Project, as inspiration hits!

Was machst Du mit all diesen Monoprints?Diese Frage höre ich ziemlich häufig und daher möchte ich euch heute eine Möglichkeit zeigen wie diese Drucke genutzt werden können.

I am working on a new little project. I love quotes and mantras and need to be reminded of them often. I thought I could use a little rolodex file to write quotes on and do some little illustrations for each one. This is a mini rolodex. Each card is a little smaller than a business card. I painted and collaged the frame first. I glued two cards together to make them a little thicker. I decorated one side and then flipped it over to write. The little sayings I've collected keep me calm and focused when I see then. I can roll the rolodex each day and have a new perspective with each turn.
AC is in there somewhere.
...a flip through... A lot of crafter's are in the know about Rolodex art, but if you are not, COOL! Lemme get my hands on you! Rolodex cards, or as most call them, "Rolo's," are just another small piece of art that is perfect for trading. What makes them a little more fun to trade are, their nifty holders. They're more easily displayed than a binder. :) There are a few different sizes that you can get, but the most popular seem to be the business card size (2.25 x 4.25 inches) and the 3 x 5 inch size. I have three Rolodex's....so embarrassing! I didn't mean to get so many, but it just happened! I wanted the typical round Rolodex, but just couldn't find one. Sure, they have them at the office supply stores, but they cost about $40 bucks, sometimes more! So, I went snooping around Ebay. To my amazement, there were several types of Rolodex's out there....and some pretty kewl vintage ones. I ended up getting a vintage Rolodex called a V-File for $15 dollars. Here it is below... I liked the fan shape of this Rolodex and the vintage metal tag on the side. This particular model has a lever that will kick up one side of the Rolodex for an easier flip through. The sides can also be moved up or down. Little handles, are at the sides so that you can lift it away. I use this one for storing addresses and trades. For peeps that I do a lot of trades with the first card is their address and the following cards have their art. :) Here are some of my cards. The top left is by Tandy, top right by Neener, bottom left by me and when there is no trading going on.....I like to add anything that catches my eye! Hence the candy bar wrapper! I also have some cut outs from Christmas cards...better than throwing something beautiful away! Next, I found this vintage Zephyr Rolodex. The sides don't move on this one, but it does have a little kick stand like my first one. I haven't made any plans on how I was going to use this one yet, so it just holds some blanks. I bought this one on Ebay as well. ($13 bucks) So, after all that searching, I found the one I was originally trying to get. I found it when I gave up looking for it! (Isn't that how it usually works?) I found the roundy one at Goodwill! I paid $3 dollars! My plan for this particular Rolo will be to store my favorite quotes and poems. I often add them to art....and get annoyed with myself when I want to reuse some of them. I end up looking for them on line all over again. Doing it this way, will ensure that they are at my finger tips. :)
i have so many cards and pictures and memories just stuffed in boxes.... i love this idea to turn them into a "rolodex scrapbook" ....using vintage cards and photos ....and bits of this and that so that all that goodness that's just hiding away could be at your fingertips step-by-steps here all photos via fossil life style
I have been quietly busy behind the scenes, getting a good start on the envelopes I've promised to send home your mail art swap returns in. You can read more details about the swap HERE. All mail art is due in my hands by December 4th, 2010. Now . . . making, stamping and decorating envelopes is one of my favorite things to do so I'm very happy with this project! I feel good that I have started this task of creating or decorating about 55 envelopes, 3 weeks before the due date. Most of the envelopes below are not complete yet as I will add rubber stamping or a bit of collage too - but here is a peek at what I have been doing: I have created envelopes out of double side scrapbook paper with my favorite Kreate-a-Lope template (top) and also by simply folding scrapbook paper in half and sewing up the sides, see below. It's fun to use various stitches! Template envelopes above, and below you will see I also made a couple of oversize envelopes. I've done collage on top of a regular manila file folder, which was cut down in size a bit and then re-folded. See below for some fun examples-click on each photo for more detail. The front of the envelope the back I got this idea for making a large envelope out of a file folder when doing research for this swap and finding a video on altered mail art by Roben Marie Smith. I will add the video below for you to watch, after showing you a second large altered mail art envelope -hope you enjoy!! The front -ready to add a participants name!! the back "Official MAIL ART" - I love this rubber stamp from CatsLife Press! Here's Roben-Marie's video . . .
