A different kind of horse racing will hit Billings in September when riders representing a dozen different Indian tribes will spend as much time in the dirt as they do
With an upcoming road trip soon approaching, I have been trying to come up with as many things as possible to keep my kiddos entertained, busy, and happy. That's when I decided to make some Busy Binders. I actually got the idea when I was shopping for my daughter's school supplies. I initially bought some plastic folders with brads, but quickly realized that they would not hold nearly enough stuff. So I traded those out for some 1 1/2 inch binders, and quickly started filling them up. Oh, and of course I had to make some cute covers... I bought several of those zippered binder pouches to keep the smaller objects and activities. I added some vintage storybook pictures to the back covers because my kids love to look at all the little details of the pictures. Just another way to pass the time. Here are some things to include in a Busy Binder. file folder games stickers picture search pages colored pencils, crayons, or color wonder markers and sheets printable coloring pages, mazes, and word searches - find several free ones at Mr. Printables a map of the United States (or one of where you are visiting)- I found ours also on Mr. Printables lacing cards- here's a tutorial to make your own on Little Birdie Secrets preschool printables- some of my free printables, such as the Number Wheel game would be great. magazines small soft cover books- the ones you get in Chick-fil-a kids meals are perfect. coloring books blank paper binder eye spy bags- make your own with Six Sisters' Stuff These are perfect for traveling, but also great for church or whenever you need to keep those kiddos occupied and happy. What else would YOU put in a Busy Binder?

Chattanooga Choo Choo: Reviews from families visiting Chattanooga Choo Choo. I was lucky enough to visit Chattanooga Choo Choo with my husband and our two boys on a weekend recently. This was a cold-weather visit (close to Christmas,) but we have been previously when the weather was warmer. There is enough to see and do here that you will want to come back for both seasons. Here is a rundown of what to expect. In the winter, specifically near Christmas, the lobby of the hotel (which is an historic train depot) is beautifully decorated for Christmas. Santa sits in his sleigh for pictures at various times of the day so be sure to check the calendar and stop by. Catch a glimpse of the Chattanooga Choo Choo parked out back, as she dons a festive wreath. Kids will enjoy a visit to the Model RR Display and Museum for a modest fee. Here kids can see a scaled version of Chattanooga, with 3,000 feet of track. My son enjoyed pushing the buttons to make various aspects of the model move; his favorite was watching the lumberjack chop down a tree as a passenger train scoots by, barely missing a collision. There is a scavenger hunt posted on the wall, giving kids a list of things to find in the model like a cat stuck in a tree or a car accident. This can add an extra hour or more of fun! My short guys could not reach the glass walls to peer into the model, but there were "ramps" at various points along the room, allowing them to climb up for a better view. Dont forget to head all the way to the back of the room, around the corner to the back wall. There is a portion of the model available for small hands to touch and feel. It shows the layers of screen, plaster, paint and decor that are used to build this intricate masterpiece. The main gift shop is the perfect place to find a present for the little (or big) train enthusiast in your life. Other shops include Sweetly Southern (cookbooks and other tasty goodies,) Artifacts (with Civil War paraphernalia,) Old Tyme Photo (for photos set in the 20s at the time the Choo Choo ran,) Little Lace Lady for an eclectic assortment of gifts, and Southern Bead & Jewel, with ornaments and jewelry. Visitors can eat at the Garden’s Restaurant for a very casual meal. The Station House Restaurant is more upscale dining with “Singing Servers.” There is also a pizza shop, café, lounge, and ice cream/candy store. During the Holiday, kids can experience the Elf Workshop (for a fee.) While the Trolley Ride is available during the entire year, my youngsters found it more enjoyable during the summer months. Take a ride around the grounds on an authentic historic trolley. Learn about the various buildings and how they were used, and what makes the Chattanooga Choo Choo such an important part of history in the American South. The grounds of the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel are pretty, set with arches, fountains, rose beds and greenspace. We took a relaxing stroll and bribed the boys into several fun photos. In the parking lot behind the hotel buildings is a red caboose. It isn’t open, but kiddos can climb the stairs and wave, which makes for another fun photo. If you are in town, stop by this Historic Hotel for a view of the iconic railway, and take a ride on the trolley! Disclosure: Thank you to the Chattanooga CVB and Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel for hosting my family and me, and thank you to the Model RR & Museum for the complimentary peek! The opinions here are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.
