Rhynchospora colorata is a sedge native to the southeastern coastal plain. It is naturally found in wetland habitats, and grows best in full sun to part shade with soils that are moist to wet. This sedge has green foliage that can grow up to two feet tall and dies back mostly in the winter. It flowers in the summer and attracts many pollinators. While the flowers themselves are insignificant, they are framed by bright white leaves (bracts), which create the appearance of long lasting, star-shaped flowers. This plant is fairly resistant to deer and has a slight salt tolerance. Rhynchospora colorata is an excellent choice as a specimen plant in a wet part of a yard or rain garden, or to use for stormwater control.

Rhynchospora colorata is een papyrusachtig grasje afkomstig uit het zuidoosten van de Verenigde Staten waar het in vochtige en moerassige gebieden groeit. Vormt grasachtige groene bladeren. De bloei bestaat uit lange, hangende witte schutbladen met groene tippen, rond een cremewit hart. Verspreidt zich langzaam door wortelstokken. Verlangt een warme plek in de zon of halfschaduw. Zorg dat de plant altijd vochtig staat, een kleine schotel onder de pot is meer dan genoeg voor hem. Kan in ondiep water staan aan de rand van de vijver. Is in ons klimaat niet winterhard en moet dus op een vorstvrije plek overwinteren, de potgrond ook dan vochtig houden. In het vroege voorjaar kan men de dode bladeren verwijderen.
