"I’m excited to introduce my latest creation: the Red and Green Yuletide Quilt Pattern. This pattern is inspired by the classic chandelier quilt also known as the bead quilt design. It brings together ten vibrant shades of reds and greens to create a stunning, eye-catching piece that’s perfect for Christmas. For years, every time I saw a chandelier quilt, I fell in love with it. Each one was so stunning. I was determined that one day I would make one too."
A dear friend asked me to make a custom curved pieced quilt for her to match her decor. She wanted reds and greens. While the color wheel says red and green are complimentary, I had to confess to her that I couldn’t think of red and green without thinking of Christmas. So….time to expand my Read the full article...

There are many tools useful for a quilter to have in their sewing kit. Topping the list are always a cutting mat, rotary cutter and a clear quilter's ruler. If the quilt being made is made up of different angles, such as a Dresdan Plate or fan pattern, a quilter's wedge ruler is also extremely helpful.

Before anything, I must thank all you marvelous readers on all your blessings and exclamations of sympathy for our loss of our sweet, Emmy. Saturday was a tough day, and although it has been exceptionally quiet in this house, it has been raining constantly since Sunday and I'm not unhappy about letting a dog in and out of the house all wet. Nor, am I upset when our bed is not shaking because our dog (who slept with us) was afraid of thunder and lightning and NO ONE dare sleep while that is happening! I do however, miss the growl every time someone sneezes. Sneezing was not allowed in our house, you know!! LOL She didn't like that at all!! I also miss so much else......much too much to mention. I'm sure you know what I mean. Seems every loved pet has something special that makes them unique. At this point we aren't sure if we will adopt again. It's too early......but if it happens, I will be sure to let you know. In the meantime, I have been sewing. I sent out a STUD mini quilt to Ruthie who was my partner for the theme, "favorite things". Ruthie likes: Wizard of Oz, owls and birds, schrooms with rooms, embroidered/embellished, and bird nests and branches. No schrooms with rooms, but the tree has one, and please note the lions tail on the right side of the "golden brick road". Everything else, I think I nailed. She loved it. Then, I was the first one to be done with the doll swap. I had sent my quilt to my partner earlier in the week, and yesterday received mine from "boutiquenutmegdesigns"..(Meg). She nailed my likes to a T. Then, just for fun, I sewed this little number. It seems I'm really into red and white lately......I'm thinking it's my sympathy for the Japanese people, who knows, although I do love red and white anyway. I even think the next thing I make is also going to be red and white. Why I'm thinking in only those colors is beyond me. I showed this to the owner of my LQS this morning and she asked when I was going to write a big pattern for it. ???????? Good question, and perhaps that might be in the cards too. I better do it soon though so I don't forget what I did. Duh! So, you see, I'm still alive and probably working harder than ever. At least for now......thank you all again for your sweet words and love. It means so very, very much to both me and my DH!! I've read every one of your comments to him too. And we cried together. But, that's good...... Smooches to all of you!!!!!
Early, early Wednesday morning, I'll be boarding a plane for Brigham City, UT, to spend time with lots of wonderful quilters while giving a lecture and three workshops for the Village Dry Goods quilt shop. This is one of my most favorite things to do...I love it. The quilt above is a new design called Settler's Puzzle, and I'll be teaching it for the first time. I love this quilt and it seems to be very popular with all of you as well. I'll be teaching this quilt in workshops all this year, and so it won't be available for purchase on my website until the end of the year. The only way to get the pattern is to join me in a workshop! There will be several opportunities spread out all over the country throughout the year, so stay tuned for more news about that. Adding tons of loveliness to this quilt is the talent from quilter extraordinaire, Linda Hrcka of The Quilted Pineapple. I just have to show you the creativity in stitching Linda did on my Settler's Puzzle quilt. The following photos were taken by Linda, and I'll let her work speak for itself. Did you sit there with your jaw dropped open like I did? Needless to say, I'm thrilled with how the entire quilt turned out. Please visit Linda's blog for the details on how she chose the quilting designs and what batting she used. She'll be posting about Settler's Puzzle soon, and it's a real treat to see all of the quilts she does.
I always struggle writing blog entries when I am travelling. My carrier is usually pretty good bit this week it let me down (and I was only three hours from Melbourne). Anyway - enough of a winge. I taught my Luscious Landscape workshop at the Vickery Craft and Quilt Retreat in Alexandria. This is a great venue either for a workshop or if your group just wants to get away and do your own thing - the house sleeps 10 and has a great workroom for sewing, an wood burning heater and airconditioning and a large garden. As we had two days for a workshop that can also be done in one day, we decided to add my Threads to Dye For workshop as well so that they could use their own hand dyed threads in their finished landscapes Leanne was so keen to see her threads and fabric that she was glued to the washing machine. Sarah turned this poppy field into a field of fabric poppies. This photo of a canola field was perfectly converted to a textile piece by Jill and the addition of beads will be perfect. This workshop also has a beading introductory session included. Sarah really enjoyed the process and finished her poppy field at night so the next day she started on another piece. Isn't it terrific? I had students travel all the way from Adelaide and Sydney and Geelong as well as locals which was lovely. The owners Beverley and Anne as well as the students were so pleased with the workshop that I have been invited back to Vickery next year - November 19th and 20th to run my very popular Textured Treasures workshop. Places will be very limited so if you are interested I would suggest making contact soon.

Though generations of quilters have successfully sewn these high-contrast designs, quilting with red and white fabric does present some challenges.
I bet you weren't expecting a blog from me until....well...pigs would be flying right? Yes, it's been a while. I am not going to go into a long and boring list of excuses for not posting for over 6 months....
Not all of the quilts displayed at the Gilbert Museum show were vintage. Butterfly Vortex, made by Janet Real actually made me a little dizzy as I stood and looked at it. This is such an interesting quilt! Janet saw a similar design in a quilt book. Because no pattern was available, Janet and her husband made one using the metric system. Wow. There are 52 rays with 21 pieces each. An abstract butterfly arabesque is hand appliqued in each corner. Yes, looking at it from the side made me just as dizzy! I always knew that quilts were hypnotic. All hand pieced and hand appliqued by Janet. Hand quilted by Oro House of Patches, Philippines.

What a big year for color! Being stuck at home for a great deal of the year really gave me some time to think about color and create all kinds of color palettes. I’ve created color schemes for branding plans for clients, and I made them for remodeling our home. I even let my kids make color palettes
Gigantic Scrappy Christmas Swoon quilt! Will be 60" finished and made *nearly* all from stash and scraps - I only had to buy a few pieces of the background fabrics and one of the reds! I'm normally a bit of a Christmas grouch (too stressy!) but this quilt actually has me looking forward to it!
