A quick way to dress up all those Christmas gifts... pattern paper layered tags! This truly is such a simple concept and I've thought to myself many times as I was creating these... Why did I never think of this before?!?! Check them out... They feature a pop of color and pattern behind a simply stamped tag, all tied up with a little bit of baker's twine. Here's How: Start off by die cutting two identically shaped tags, one from pattern paper and the second from cardstock that matches nicely. Trim the bottom edge off from the cardstock tag and stamp as desired. Tie the two tags together with ribbon or twine. My go-to decoration for Christmas gifts consists of... kraft paper wrap, wide ribbon and a pretty tag. I just love how the pattern paper and hand stamping really pop and make the tag take center stage against the simple wrapping. This tag was made using the Tag Sale #5 die, a sentiment from from the 'Tis the Season Sentiments stamp set and lights from the Come All Ye Faithful Additions stamp set. This one features the Tag Sale #5 die and a sentiment from from the 'Tis the Season Sentiments stamp set too. Along with trees from the Holiday Cheer stamp set. Here's A Tip: Using a tag die that features a fancy bottom edge adds yet another interesting and sweet detail. This one features the Tag Sale #7 die, a sentiment from the 'Tis the Season Sentiments stamp set and snowflakes from the Two Feet Deep stamp sets. These will definitely take my gift wrapping up a notch this Christmas season, and of course throughout the year for many other occasions too. I hope it does the same for you! Time for Papertrey Ink November Blog hop.., I went with homes downtown and created a cold wintery evening scene. Homes lit with warmth and glow ! I just can't seem to put away my PTI City scene stamp set! The buildings, trees and sentiment are from Papertrey Ink and the car image is by Mama Elephant. The Papertrey Ink team is counting down to their new October releases! Everything you see here in the next few days will be available on the 15th at Papertrey Ink. Today we are sharing projects made with City Scene, City Scene Sentiments and City Scene Christmas Sentiments, along with the dies to match. I stamped a few fun buildings, trees, the road, and then added some embossing powder to the tops of everything to make it snowy. (I didn't heat the embossing powder, just used it for the look of snow!) I actually used the nose from Come All Ye Faithful Additions to add the ball ornaments to the one tree! It's Christmas Time in the City card: STAMPS: City Scene, Come All Ye Faithful Additions, City Scene Christmas Sentiments INK: True Black, Classic Kraft, Pure Poppy, New Leaf PAPER: gray - craft supply, white DIES: none OTHER: corner rounder, embossing powder. ------- This one is more modern than I'm used to, but I just thought it would be so fitting for this sentiment. The buildings are die cut in gray and added over the top of Smokey Shadow cardstock. The sentiment is embossed with white powder for more contrast, and the stars are stamped with Fresh Snow ink. Holy moly PTI peeps...are we going to knock your socks off today with City Scene, City Scene Sentiments, and City Scene Christmas Sentiment stamp sets and dies. This is the stuff of stamper's dreams. Nichole did an amazing job. They are so wonderfully designed and executed, that I am not going to take any credit for the projects I'm going to show you below. I feel like they stamped themselves. When you have such wonderful things to work with, amazing projects just happen. Let me show you... I'm skipping ahead and showing you my City Sene card with the City Scene Christmas Sentiments first. I had so much fun stamping all those buildings. I'm a sucker for multi step stamps. I mounted everything on an Enchanted Evening Bitty Dot background. I wanted the look of the a snow scene, without having to stamp snow all over, thus the choice. My buildings are rising up from two slopes of glittering snow (In the Meadow dies). In looking for a bit of inspiration, I found more than one piece of graphic art that had city scenes angling outward from a central point. Almost to emphasize how big and sprawling they can be. I mimicked this look by having everything angled out from the center of the card. A few trees are stamped in Pinefeather and brought down on the slopes to extend the scene into the whole card and embellish the banner. I stamped "sidewalks dressed in holiday style" from City Scene Christmas Sentiments on Bountiful Banners stamps and die. The word "city", although included in the stamp set, I decided to die cut out of the Modern Alphabet Upper die set for a bit of extra weight and presence. Next up, we have a little Oh! La! La! with this Paris scene. How fun is this sentiment from City Scene Sentiments? Just so cheery and encouraging. Color-wise, I went classic Paris with soft pink and black, but with a PTI twist. My Eiffel Tower is framed in the ornate frame from Simply Jane to further the fancy French style. The dies in this set are simply AMAZING. You can use them as is and have your scenes built for you or you can trim and combine for a whole new look. I cut the base of the French street out of Limeade Ice, Simply Chartreuse, and Soft Stone Simple Stripe and with a snip here and a dab of glue there, combined them into something custom. True Black ribbon flags embellish the bottom. City Scene and all its accouterments, as well as all the other October Papertrey Ink products, can be purchased at www.papertreyink.com on October 15th at 10 PM EST. Decisions, decisions. I'd have a hard time narrowing it down myself. I think that City Scene is my favorite stamp set ever. And the cards I am posting today have got to be amongst my my favorite cards that I have ever made. I hope you like them, too. There are just so many fun ways to combine these stamps and dies. My first card is for this week's RetroSketches rs#88. I may have simplified the sketch a bit. There were a lot of lines in the sketch, and it was hard to keep track of everything. I stamped a few buildings in the background using Soft Stone ink. Most of the other pieces were die cut and layered. We are in New York on this card--possibly Brooklyn. My next City Scene card uses this week's Sweet Sunday #196 sketch, rotated 90 degrees clockwise. I am excited because this is the first time I have ever played in this challenge. My city has hopped over the pond to London for this card. That tree behind the double decker bus is from Winter Hills. I left this one without a sentiment. There wasn't a good place for one, so I will just put something inside when I use the card. This last (for today) City Scene card brings us back to New York for Christmas. Wouldn't that be fun in real life? I grew up in a suburb of New York, and we used to go into the City every year at Christmas time. Such a fun time to be in New York. This card is not for any challenge--just for fun. My last card for today uses the Stamped Square Border technique explained in this week's Make it Monday #139 and the Dynamic Duos DD#77 colors. It is a CASE of Marybeth's card from earlier today. I loved her striped red and white square border with the sweet winter scene, so I made my own using the candy stick from Candy Cane Christmas and Winter Penguin. I used some tiny snowflakes from Snow Globe stamped in Brilliance Platinum Planet, and a little snowman from Tag-its #8. Second post for today.. for my Niji post click here My Season's Greetings post had a reader asking me how I created the wet foggy look on my card and if I had a secret to share! ..I wish I had something to tell, but, honestly.... no.... I don't ! Whenever possible, I try to explain how I achieved a certain effect, but most times, it's just trial and error and happy accidents! With watercolor, it's about knowing when to stop fiddling and letting it just be. It took me a long time to understand that, but once I realized that, I began enjoying watercolors ! Most of my work is done wet in wet, as in dampening the paper and applying color, I enjoy this technique the most. This almost always leads to some surprise mixing and blending of colors on their own which gives some really good unintentional effects. At the same time, this is very difficult to copy and recreate, every piece will be unique and slightly different from each other. For all those questions about how to go about watercoloring, my only answer would be.....accept the unpredictable nature of this medium, that would be your first step towards success and of course, keep trying and experimenting ..don't quit! Some day I hope to start doing video tutorials, until then, I shall help and encourage all my readers through stepped out pics! For now, I have some over Faber Castell and Niji . Hope this helps! Here is today's card ...... I played around some more with my PTI city scene stamp set and here is what I came up with... ..After London, it's greetings from Paris! Watercolored a scene around the stamped images. Also brushed on some Iridescent medium on the Eiffel Tower, it gives it a shimmery silvery( are these even words or have I just made them up? hmmnn!) effect. A closer look..... I loved this simple technique by Dawn, so many, possibilities. I used both chunky and fine white glitter on my score tape frame. I know busy photos today, but I like it! Hello! My gosh time is going by so fast these days! I missed a few MIM but happy to get this one in under the wire . We welcomed some much needed rain here in California. This week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday challenge is heat embossing on die cuts and/or two step stamps. For my card I stamped the image in black and heat embossed with some clear embossing powder on to a white card stock. After cutting it out with the coordinating die, I stamped a red stripe to jazz up the car and adhered it on an embossed circle and added a sentiment. Isn't this beetle just too adorable! It's the 25th, which means that there are two months left until Christmas. Have you started your shopping yet? It also means that today is the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop. :) This month, we were given six colour combos to inspire us to make holiday cards. And I used each one. Here are the six cards that I made, using the colour combos... For my first card, I used a combination of Betsy Veldman's dies -- both the Shaker Shapes: Square dies for my frame & the Tinsel & Tag Kit dies to create my little scene. The banner is also from Tinsel & Tags, as well as the fun snow I added. For this card, I used some polka dot patterned paper (sorry, I don't know the brand!) and paired it with PTI's Bells & Boughs stamp set and dies. I used the rock & roll technique for inking up my poinsettias. I die cut my border from New Leaf card stock using PTI's Heart border die. The sentiment was stamped with Wet Paint Holidays. For the third colour combo, I used some Heidi Swapp patterned paper as my background. Again, I used stamps & dies from the Tinsel & Tags kit, which I layered onto a Mat Stack 4 diecut. Here, I used the Shaker Shapes: Snow Globe and paired it with PTI's City Scene. I had fun masking and stamping my little winter scene! I added some glitter to my snow globe. For my sentiment, I die cut the "merry" using my Wet Paint Holidays Cuts. The "Christmas" is from the Sparkle & Shine Holiday stamp set. The stripe along the bottom is from the County Fair MIM. Here, I used the Shaker Shapes: Ornament dies. I die cut my "sparkle" die cut from some silver shimmer card stock. The sentiments are from the Sparkle & Shine Holidays stamp set. I used some Lawn Fawn twine at the top. Here's a close up of the shimmery "Sparkle": And lastly.... Here, I used the new Tinsel & Tags stamp set and dies. Ha, you guessed it! I am back with my entry for the PTI Anniversary Challenge of the 5th day. This time we had to ink up a not-yet-used or not-yet-enough-used stamp set. My card features both: Blimey, I made a card suitable for a man! I used Secret Agent (never before used), City Scene (not used enough) and City Scene Sentiments (never before used). I thought the fun agent would fit into London perfectly. And because I am a huge London/GB fan, I had to create this card. I hope you like it, too! Thanks for visiting!
