My Little Pony™ was around when I was growing up, and now the ponies have returned with some sass, and my daughter is crazy about them. Cutie mark cupcakes - here we go! Making treats are my favorite party task. Decorate them with rock candy, Dots Gumdrops™, confetti sprinkles, jelly beans, rolled and cut Tootsie Fruit Chews™, and rainbow Airheads Extremes Bites™. Making the six cutie marks was creative-fun! Have the kids help. You can't go wrong with marshmallow pops. Dip marshmallows in melted colored chocolates, and garnish them with sprinkles. A piñata for everyone! I wrapped craft rolls with printed napkins and tulle, and tied one end of each with ribbons. Kids enjoyed filling the opens end with chocolates and candies. They tied the loose ends and were pleased to have their own piñatas to take home . Pony Dress-Up Time! The girls loved dressing up, and accessorizing with hair clips and rings. Assembling tutus and pony tails to pin is simple and affordable. Click here to view Martha Stewart's tutu-making video. To make the tails, use colorful, fluffy yarn and tie them together with some pretty ribbons. Here's a cool activity to include the boys. The children filled miniature jars with colorful jewels and rocks. I found this My Little Pony™ bracelet charm kit online, and it was a great party activity for all ages. For my daughter's 3rd birthday party she wanted a Rainbow Birthday Party. It's a bright, colourful and easy theme for a birthday and there are so many wonderful ideas about to be found! Here are a few of the ideas we used. The Cake- Rainbow Cake I just had to give this rainbow cake a go! It was a hit with all the guests, young and old :) Not terribly difficult, just time consuming. I loosely followed this recipe. (And yes, I know that it's colour overkill but it uses gel food colourings to give it a richer colour and hey, it's their Birthday. Let's have some fun!) The Party Favours- Take home Rainbow Popcorn boxes Filled personalised plastic noodle boxes with coloured popcorn and a pair of novelty kids sunglasses The Food- Rainbow Themed To make rainbow jelly (jell-o) cups you need to make up your jelly one layer at a time. Wait until one layer has set before adding the next (allow liquid jelly to get to room temperature before pouring on top of set jelly layer). Set and repeat till done. Adults and children alike loved these. Rainbow fruit skewers The food table minus the hot food. The waterbottles all had printed rainbow labels (made on the computer) stuck on them. I tried to keep a good balance of healthy food and treats. Pictured here you can see Lemon Slice, Chocolate Brownies, Rainbow Cake, Marshmallows, Fruit Skewers, Rice Paper Rolls, Mixed Sandwiches, Dip, cracker and veggie platter and Rainbow jelly. Children's Activity- Make your own fairy bread station Set cookie cutter buttered bread and the above assortment of spinkles (if you can find them in all the rainbow colours you should set them out like a rainbow... alas, I could not) out on a children's table with plates and spoons and let them make their own fairy bread. A great sensory and fine motor skills activity. Yummy too :) It was a great day Debs :) New Here? Our theme for my daughter's 9th birthday was Rainbow. We had so much fun with this one! I used crepe paper to make a rainbow in our kitchen window and used tissue paper to make tissue poms. It was simple to make the tissue poms. I actually found instructions on Pinterest, one of my favorite places to search when I'm feeling creative. I found just about everything for a $1 at one of our local dollar stores. We decorated the outside area for our painting activity with balloon bouquets. My sister bought the canvas for each girl and painted each one a different color. Then she attached a cutout of a butterfly for the girls to paint over. We bought smocks from a site online at a great price and put plastic cups for the water and paper plates for their paint. They had so much fun! Some of them got really creative and others you could tell just didn't have a vision. Each girl enjoyed showing their painting to their parent when it was pick up time. We had them paint on the Friday so it would have time to dry. Once dry we removed the butterfly. It was so neat! We had so many snacks and realized we did way too much but it looked so pretty once it was all out! I made a list of my daughter's favorite fruits. I went to the store and just bought what colors would make a beautiful rainbow and it came out so pretty! Then I used mini marshmallows to make the clouds. I had to recreate the rainbow several times because it was a big hit! It was a good healthy alternative to candy and sweets. No sweets? Oh please! We had some serious sweets at this party! My most tedious one was the M&M display. Instead of being a better planner I waited too long to order M&M's in each color so I had to buy bags and bags of regular M&M's to create my display. It was worth it! We also just picked up some sour rainbow belts, colored goldfish snacks, and other random snacks. We found a wonderful idea to create a rainbow in a cup with popsicles. We used the ones that come in the plastic tubes. It was very cute! Before cutting the popsicle open we used big spoons to gently mash them so they would pour out instead of being little cubes of popsicle. One of our other great idea finds was the rainbow sherbet in 7-up. The kids loved it and it looked adorable! I found the cups online for a great price and the straws from our local dollar store. Now our favorite part was the cake. My sister made everything from scratch! She found a recipe for the batter and the icing. It was delicious! We aren't real big cake eaters so having the small layers with icing in between was much better than the big thick layers of cake people normally make. Also I found the lollipops at the same site I found the cups and smocks. It helped that I had a coupon too! We put the lollipops in popcorn kernels inside different shaped vases. It came out so cute! The party was a huge success! We all had a great time. It did help that I also had a 24ft water slide in our backyard with an above ground pool to entertain them! My daughter and her friends truly enjoyed themselves. My sisters, my mom, and myself worked very hard but had a great time together making this theme come together. I hope my ideas and finds have helped in some way. Have a great time!
A backyard unicorn third birthday for a few toddlers! DIY activities, lots of pink unicorns and sweet treats! This party was magical just like the birthday girl.
I have a pretty busy couple of weeks this time of year. Thanksgiving and 3 birthdays hit within 10 days of each other usually! It's crazy busy. I honestly don't know how I survive. Here are a few pictures from my daughter's birthday party. She's a big fan of the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series, and she just had to have a party featuring them! So here is the party table! I made a rainbow on the wall (unfortunately for picture's sake, it had to be in front of a window) made of tulle that I purchased at JoAnn's. I had some poly-fill in the basement that I used to make a cloud, and I also came across these super cute twinkling star battery operated Christmas lights that I wove into the cloud! It turned out super cute. I got the inspiration for the rainbow here The gift table was pretty simple - fuchsia satin cloth, purple "pony tail" ribbons, and balloons hanging from the ceiling. The show stopper was the cake! My mom and my cousin made the cake and it turned out so Ah-Mazing! E's favorite character is Rainbow dash and my cousin, Allie painted her on top, while my mom, Jo Ellen, baked the cake and decorated the sides with Skittles. It was awesome. It was a RAINBOW CAKE!!! I was even surprised when I cut into it! I also made these super cute party favors! I picked up nail polishes that matched the colors of each pony character, and then made curly ribbon "manes" that matched the ponies as well! I then glued on pictures of the ponies for E's sake. I threw them in a clear bag with a pretty nail file, a pony fruit snack pack and sealed it all up with a rainbow ribbon and paper cloud. Adorable! Thanks for looking! ~ Jessie
