JUST A NOTE: if you have any questions regarding this pattern, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. This is an older post and I don't always see these new comments! :-) Hey all! I have a fun little project to share that I call my less than 2 hour slippers. I was shopping the other day and found some bulky yarn on sale for $2.50 per skein and I thought -- I could make some slipper socks! I love, love, love slipper socks. I have I don't KNOW how many pairs and I usually try to make sure they are bright, fun colors to make my feet happy. I couldn't find a pattern that I really liked -- so I decided to "wing it!" and below -- I'm going to share my pattern with all of you! Here's a photo of my finished slippers.... cozy as can be! I had done a similar pair in a worsted weight and thought I could amend the pattern a bit. Well, because of gauge, I decided to wing it and start fresh! I wanted, instead of knitting a tube slipper and sew it up the center - I wanted to have some contouring to hug my feet. See? And here, my friends, is the easy peasy pattern that creates a pair of slippers using bulky weight yarn in less than 2 hours! Mine took about an hour an a half with sewing! Materials: 80 to 100 yards of bulky weight yarn - I used Lion Brand Hometown USA in Portland Wine Size 11/8mm Knitting Needles Large cable needle Blunt-eyed needle for sewing when finished Gauge: 9 stitches/12 rows per 4" by 4" square. Abbreviations: CF4 = slip 2 stitches to the front to cable needle, knit 2 off needles, knit 2 off cable needles CB4 = slip 2 stitches to the back to cable needle, knit 2 off needles, knit 2 off cable needles K2tog = Knit 2 together M1 = Make 1: take the left-hand needle and pick up the bar between the stitches from front to back, use the right needle to knit this bar through the back loop. I had to try on my slipper as I was sewing to make sure it fit properly. After you sew the top, you'll need to seam the back heel. To keep this easy, I flipped the slipper inside out and just sewed up using the chain stitches as my guide. READER TIP FROM MARIA BOVA: To avoid the point that is created completing the heel, don't sew the seam completely. Leave about 4 stitches on each side. Secure the last stitch by going through again. Then, weave the yarn in and out of the 8 stitches and pull to close the ring. This rounds off the heel. PLEASE NOTE This pattern fits my feet--- I wear an 8-1/2 shoe. If you want to make this slipper bigger or smaller -- note -- the distance between the heel and the shaping on my slipper pattern is about 5". So, you can adjust the rows (make less or more depending on your foot size) between the heel and the shaping to account for your foot size. Finished length of my slipper from heel to toe is 10". An hour and a half later, here's a peek at my now happy tootsies..... Can't you just see them smiling? :-) Hope your week is off to a great start! If you make a pair, please, please, please let me know and if you can email me a picture to [email protected] so I can update this post! :-) I'll see you back here real soon! ~Julie
Hello Power Poppy Peeps and welcome to another Inspire Me Monday -- a quick fix of inspiration to jump start your creative week! I thought instead of showing you a technique or sharing a tip, I would share four sketches and show off four different, yet color-coordinated cards using Power Poppy's Leaping Trout digital stamp set. I just love this image for "man cards." It's also perfect for my neck of the woods, where fly fishing reigns "King." Use these sketches in your own stamp rooms or see how the gentle mix of decorative papers can bring about a positive visual vibe in a set of cards! Here's a peek at the four cards I'll be sharing today! So let's get to it! I will say that all of the trout were colored up exactly the same way. I used some warm grey tones (W01, W03), a few vibrant blue green shades (BG000, BG11 and BG72) and some lighter rose shades (R81, R83 an R14) to color these up as rainbow trout. There are also some olive green bits in there as well (YG91 and YG93.) Here's Sketch #1 Here's Card #1 And here's how I put this sketch in play using some stitched edge dies, a wooden button adorned with a little bit of natural cording and a mix of blue decorative papers to try to pick up on the fish's fresh colors! Here's Sketch #2 Here's Card #2 When it comes to card layout, I have always been a fan of the fishtail pennants. I thought since my main image was a fish, why not use one of my favorite accents? I included the same stitched rectangle die and some of the same decorative papers from card #1 to let these two designs play off of each other. I accented my image with the same twine but added a few extras with some gold brads and even an honest to goodness fly. I picked this little guy up at the fly shop and had fun choosing this little "Woolly Bugger!" :-) Here's a little close up for you so you can see just how that trout is colored up! Here's Sketch #3 Here's Card #3 I love wonky sketches, when one piece of paper or two are at an angle. So, this sketch takes on that flair! I added some distressed edges, wood grain paper and even a wee bit of paper piecing. See those same bits of paper from the othe two cards? Yep, they're there! I also added the twine and a bronze brad. See? Here's Sketch #4 Here's Card #4 Okay, which one of these does not look like the others? I admit, this one is a bit of a stretch when it comes to creating a cohesive set of cards. The decorative paper here has the same beige tones in card #2 and card #3 and then I picked up the denim decorative paper that is in card #3. After I photographed this one, however, I see it doesn't gel as well as the other three. That's okay though! My intent was there! Here I layered up a bunch of decorative paper, added a ribbon border with some silver paper dots and some fun decorative shapes. There you have it peeps -- four sketches, four cards, and just one digital stamp image! I hope you like the designs and even more, I hope you take these sketches for a test drive in your own stamping spaces! Most of my cards are on the simple side so why not add a few more embellishments or put a twist on these layouts to make your own mark on them! If you do use one or all of these sketches, please share a link to your creations so that I can see your take on them! Have a fabulous week & thanks for stopping by! ~Julie
If you are looking for the Graphic 45 Journaling Cards project, please click HERE. Happy Friday, Colorists and Card Makers! The Power Poppy Team is here with another Friday Fun Day! Before I get to my project, check out the MASSIVE SALE! The Power Poppy sale is still going on, through March 31st! Clear stamps and digital stamps are on sale! Here is my Fun Friday project! Does this image look familiar? I have colored this one lots of times (see other samples below)! It is perfectly fine to use the same image more than once! {GASP! FAINT!} The image is a digital download from Power Poppy called Tulips in Hobnail Pitcher. The beauty of stamping is that you can stamp or print as many images as you wish, and color them all! I LOVE tulips! They are my favorite spring flower! So, I colored this image once again! This time, I used lots of bright, spring colors. (My husband said it looks like an Easter egg!) The card is a standard A2 size (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") made of black cardstock. This one should be easy to mail. I would place a sheet of cardstock into the envelope to protect the front of the card. I printed the image onto white cardstock and colored it with Copics (I did not keep a list! So sorry!) After the image was all colored, I fussy cut around the edge. If you have a "scan and cut" machine, you will do a better job, I am sure! I used Distress inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Raspberry, and Carved Pumpkin) to color the background panel. I just rubbed the ink on with a brush. After the ink was dry, I spritzed the paper with water to make a pattern in the ink. I used a stitched rectangle die to cut out the panel. I stamped the sentiments from the So Grateful clear stamp set using black ink. This set is sold out/retired, but there are lots of other sets with wonderful sentiments to use! I used foam tape to pop the fussy cut image onto the panel. I added a few enamel dots for some shine. Done and dusted! A few weeks ago, I used the same image, but colored the flowers in shades of peach. See the details HERE. Here is another version. The flowers are very similar to the ones I colored for today's card! So, I guess if you need to know the colors...visit this project! {giggle} I think the pinks and yellows in this one are a bit softer and the orange a bit brighter. I guess I am getting boring! And because I just love tulips, HERE is another version! This one is all red and yellow, but also fussy cut. We've gone from flowers to forest today with Power Poppy's Enchanted Garden clear stamp release. Today we're previewing Woodland Carpet (link will be live on July 1). This stamp set and sentiment has my heart. I do find rest in the cool and calming forest and, aside from the garden, it's my favorite place to be. I colored this one with Copics, smudged a little ink for shading, added a hand drawn partial border. The 5" card leaves room for designer paper which I always love, but sometimes it just doesn't fit. It could be a masculine card... or not. It's a beautiful quote for a friend who needs soothing. Now... I'll meet you over at the Power Poppy Blog to see Marcella's post. She'll also link us up with the rest of the team for samples. I can't wait to see! Back tomorrow. Till then... have a happy day!

Happy Friday all! I hope you’ve had a great week! I’ve joined the Bloomies from Power Poppy today to share some creative fun. Last week Marcella released a brand new digi with cute new cup filled with blooms, “Clover & Pansies”. This image is simply perfect for this month since it features those sweet little clover leaves. Plus, who can resist those happy little pansy faces!! I decided to print my image out on some Strathmore Bristol Smooth watercolor paper since I wanted to use my ZIG Clean Color Real Brush markers. I chose to also use the simple “hello” sentiment from the “Everything’s Even Rosier” clear stamp set. I wanted some very, very simple for my greeting. Now… take a moment to check out the rest of the gang today… Christine Okken –> go here next! Cindy Lawrence Julie Koerber Stacy Morgan Power Poppy Blog Thanks for joining me today! Hello Friends! It’s Christine popping in again today for an Inspire Me Monday Tutorial. When I stamp Marcy’s images I am always so taken with her art that I want to showcase all of the stamped beauty just as is. But today I want to show you that these stamps are equally beautiful when you use different methods of cutting the images, creating new effects. I think it’s a great way to make your stamps even more versatile! Cut It Out: In Panels A really simple way to give your images a new look is to stamp and colour the image as normal, and then cut the design into panels to separate it slightly, giving it almost the look of a screen. This can be done vertically or horizontally. Here I’ve stamped the gorgeous Planning for Magnolias and created a tri-panel design, really showing off that clean and simple style. Simple details like piercing and enamel dots really give it a bit of an Asian feel. The sentiment is actually from one of our Christmasy sets, Cozy Cupfuls. Cut It Out: Into Inchies! Inchies are still really popular in cardmaking and this design is so easy to do! I trimmed out 1 inch pieces of watercolour paper, then stamped the Azaleas stamp set in waterbased ink onto each square with three different ink colours, using a waterbrush to softly blend the colour a little. Most of the sections are popped up, but I left a few flat to the card to create some varied dimensional interest. Cut It Out: Showcasing Embossing and Alcohol Inks This technique only requires a few steps and supplies. You’ll need some glossy card stock, some reinkers or alcohol markers, blending solution and a clear stamping block. Begin by dribbling some reinker colour onto a clear block (or you can just scribble some marker on your block too). Then spritz a little blending solution onto the block (I used a mini-mister) and immediately smoosh it onto the glossy card stock. Repeat that step until you have the colour effect you’d like. Because I was working with the Poppies set , I wanted to have lots of warm colours in reds and oranges, just like poppies are. Then, after I had swiped my embossing buddy on the glossy cardstock, I took some VersaMark ink and stamped the poppies in gold, and then followed that with embossing in white. From there I just cut larger squares (1 1/2 inches) and placed them on my card. Isn’t that a neat effect? A little more abstract, but still a great use of colour and texture. A few pretty butterfly die cuts and some Krylon gold edging finish it off. Cut It Out: Split a Design in Two On this pretty Simply Camellias design I stamped the image onto the deep pink card stock and then coloured the design with white prismacolor pencils adding some greens and pinks over top. Then I cut the design apart and then cut it so that it would fit within this card base, leaving room for that fun embossed sentiment from Big Scripts. A few polka-dotted die cut circled give the sentiment a little interest. So don’t be afraid to Cut It Out!
Hi there and a Happy Friday to you! Can you believe it is already time for Power Poppy's Power & Spark Challenge again? It seems we were just fussy cutting to our heart's content with this past challenge and now, that super sweet and amazingly talented Christine Okken has thrown down the gauntlet with this theme... That's right....it's time to pull out those pencils (or in my case, I had to borrow some!)! You can read all about this challenge on the Power Poppy Blog! Now Christine can color with pencils like nobody's business so I know her project is going to be incredible and will definitely get you in the pencil spirit! :) I was still in the tag frame of mind, so I decided to make a tag for my card. I used a Papertrey Ink tag die, then stamped my image and sentiment from Power Poppy's new Go Wild stamp set in StazOn Brown Timber ink onto Papertrey Ink's Rustic White card stock. Next, I colored my image with some Prisma pencils that my good friend let me borrow for this occasion. I have a few pencils that came over on the Mayflower and they were just not working out. I used Gamsol to blend my colors together. Now, I don't know if you've noticed, but I just don't use pencils for anything. Me and my Copics have been inseparable for so long, that I really just don't use any other medium. I have tried water coloring a few times.....it never went well. Then I got my Copics and never looked back...so, here is the first image I have colored with pencils in a very. long. time. I definitely need more practice, but I really enjoyed the challenge of trying something new, and I think I'll be looking for some pencils soon....so if you have any suggestions on type or brand, I am all ears! :) I added a few highlights here and there with a Stampin' Up! Stampin' Chalk White marker and used a Wink of Stella Clear pen to add some shimmer to the petals and jar. My card base is A2. My other layer is 4" x 5 1/4" and I embossed it with a Papertrey Ink wood grain texture plate. (Both of these layers were made with more Papertrey Ink's Rustic White card stock.) I added a couple of strips of patterned paper from My Mind's Eye's Dilly Dally 6x6 paper pad, some stitching, and distress inks in PTI's Chamomile and Chai. I also sponged on some Ranger Distress inks in Frayed Burlap and Evergreen Bough. The ink spatters were made using a SU! spritzer tool with SU!'s markers in Soft Suede and Crumb Cake. The ribbons, twine, and button were added to finish the tag off before adhering to my card panel with foam dimensionals. I just love that little mason jar! I have several old blue ones with the original zinc lids that were my husband's grandmother's.....they have a special place of honor in the kitchen china cabinet. :) Well, that is all for my card today....whew, it has been a big week for me....first Marcella has me coloring motorcycles and now Christine has me coloring with pencils! :) And no one is more surprised than me to read this, but I enjoyed every minute of it! :) Now, make sure you check out what my incredibly talented Bloom Brigade sisters have penciled in for you and then why don't you create your own pencil masterpiece and come play along with us?! You could win a stamp set.....how's that for some inspiration? ;) Thanks so much for stopping by...I can't wait to see what you create, and until next time, take care! :) Christine Okken Julie Koerber Kathy Jones Katie Sims

Hello, hello, hello my friends and Happy New Year! I am back from a much needed break and I'm ready to roll. Today, I have a brand new Power Poppy digital image to share. Marcella loves flowers and that's a really good thing for me, because I love them too. Not only are they beautiful in the garden or on display in a vase, they are also a lot of fun to color. This digital set is called Hellebores. It includes the floral and the sentiment. ***Since I am still experiencing resolution issues with Blogger, I have elected to post my photos at a smaller size. I apologize for that. But, you may click on any photo to enlarge it. Thank you. Now, I have to admit, I had NO idea what these flowers looked like, but a quick Google search fixed that. I encourage you to do a search of your own, because the range of colors is AMAZING! From white to pink, purple to blue and black. Hellebores, sometimes called the Lenten Rose or the Christmas Rose bloom in the winter and early spring. They are beautiful and very hardy. It is from these pictures that I drew inspiration for the colors on my card. I printed the image and sentiment onto the smooth side of a die cut piece of Canson XL watercolor paper. My original intent was to watercolor it but, at the last moment I decided to use my Faber-Castell Polychromos instead. And, I used a bit of Gamsol to blend different areas of image. After all of the coloring was finished, I added highlights of sparkle with a Clear Stardust pen. And I put a light coat of Crystal Effects on the vase. I put a few Sparkling Clear sequins around the sentiment to draw the eye to it. I just love the quote. It says: "The inspiration you seek is already within you. Be silent and listen." ~ Rumi This is perfect for me at this time in my life. I kept the card design simple, and just matted the focal and adhered it to the card base with dimensional adhesive. And that is that! Thank you for stopping by today! I appreciate it. Hi there my stamping friends! Welcome back for Day 2 of Power Poppy's August stamp release! Today we are featuring In Praise of Sunflowers. I'll bet she looks familiar to you! :) Marcella brought back her incredibly popular Sunflower digital images and combined them with some sweet sentiments. For my card, I chose the sunflower bouquet in a vase. I stamped the image with Memento's Tuxedo Black ink on to a die cut panel and colored it up with Copics. I added a little shimmer with a Wink of Stella clear brush pen. My card base is a couple of simple patterned paper layers with a punched trim, ribbon and button. Some stitching adds a little extra detail. To finish it off, I adhered my colored image panel. Oh my goodness, how I love this image. It was so much fun to color up! All of those beautiful details that Marcella is so famous for definitely make this image a show stopper. The finished size of this card is 4 1/8" x 5 3/8". The set has some sweet sentiments in mixed fonts which I l-o-v-e! I am trying to do a little better about showing a photo of the inside of the card.....I have been inspired by my lovely Bloomie sisters, Cindy Lawrence and Tosha Leyendekker. Don't you just love those sentiments?! Not sure if I mentioned it or not, but I do! ;) I also love this image stamped in yellow! No coloring whatsoever and she still looks stunning. So that is all for my little card today, but once again, my a-mazingly talented Bloomie sisters have quite a hop for you so make sure you check them all out and leave a little blog love while you are there. Don't forget to check out the post on Power Poppy's blog for some insight into Marcella's lovely images for this stamp set. Then, please stop back by tomorrow for Day 3 of our August stamp release, the final set in the Nature and Nurture collection. This set will have you wishing for those crisp autumn days that are hopefully coming soon! I am certainly ready for some cooler weather. :) Thank you so much for stopping by today and until tomorrow, take care! Allison Cope Christine Okken Cindy Lawrence Katie Sims

A new Hues to Use came out on the Power Poppy blog on Tuesday and when I saw the colors I immediately thought of this set, Get Wool Soon. It's in the 50's in my neck of the woods, with clouds and rain, so I know there are a lot of knitters hunkering down in front of the fire as Alaska ushers in fall, with winter right behind. Blue is my favorite color so I decided to use the 2 different shades of blue on the yarn and also use it as the card base and some accents. I brought in the orange on the cup , labels and the fun plaid paper from Lawn Fawn. Thanks for stopping by! Another treat for you today with a beautiful new digital image from Power Poppy! This one is called Sunset Sway, and no I’m not dancing, but the flowers are :) It combines some lovely Clusiana Tulips and Wild Anemones together, and you have the choice of the scene with a butterfly or without! I chose to just let those blooms shine without the butterfly. I picked a bright and sunny colour combination and also used one of our Power & Spark Sketches for this month. Have you played along yet? There’s just a week left! Because I needed another thank you card for Administrative Professionals Day next week, I used the sentiment from Power Poppy’s set, Burst of Kindness. Here’s another reminder about the challenge this month. Some great sketches to choose from, and you could win a Power Poppy set of your choice, just for playing along! Pop on over and see what the rest of the Bloom Brigade has to show you today! Hello peeps! I know I am not alone when I say that flowers are a gift best enjoyed up close and personal —the intricate beauty of the petals and leaves, the subtle scent, and the vibrant shades that could only be created by a higher power. Today on the Power Poppy blog, we walk out of nature and into craft rooms far and wide to give you a “macro look” at some of these beautiful blossoms, created by the hands of some very talented coloristas. We just love to show off what everybody makes. Let’s get to the fanciful flower show! Our first featured creation by Alba Sevadilla is a birthday wish that I'm sure anyone would love to receive! Those blissful blues with a hint of purple are downright lush! And, who doesn't absolutely adore that little ladybug just sitting so pretty? This lovely creation uses Power Poppy's digital stamp set called French Lilac. Be sure to follow Alba on Instagram to get inspired by her lovely cards and creations. Alba has an ongoing project that we were so tickled to see her begin to share, a very special calendar featuring flower images from ... you know who! Have you been able to take a look into the Kit and Clowder coloring classes that are being offered through March 14? We have been spotting the most vivid pinks and greens over on the Kit and Clowder Facebook page, where the “Clowdies” share their work, along with sharing lots of encouragement for one another. We thought Marion Lones did an outstanding job with her Copic-colored Camellias, above! If you need a little watercolor inspiration, you just HAVE GOT to check out this amazing work of art by the Power Poppy ‘Peep in Chief’ — Ms. Marcella herself! When I caught a glimpse of what Marcy did with one of her soon-to-be-released stamp sets — I gasped!!! YES!! These sweet individual sweet peas will be in polymer SOON... Let’s just breathe this in, and then PIN IT for later so we can be inspired again down the road! Speaking of Power Poppy’s spring release, MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW. Our Bloomies will begin showcasing our brand new collection of clear stamps starting March 10th, right here on the Power Poppy blog! And, there are some MAJOR surprises too! Can you even stand it? :-) Our next “up close and personal look” happens to involve these sweet posies colored and accented by the very talented hands of Sandy Allnock. I just love the intensity and pop of color given to Power Poppy's Gerbera Daisies digital stamps, nicely offset by a black ribbon. (For polymer fans, this image also comes in the clear set Dynamic Duos: Glads and Gerberas). I am pretty sure Sandy accented the center of these beauties with a little white gel pen just to make them pop even more. You know the saying “life imitates art”? Well, I believe Elizabeth Zaffarano used art to imitate life! These sweet little pansy faces are colored up beautifully and are so true to nature that I just might study them all day. We know from Elizabeth’s own Instagram snaps that she was inspired by a tray of Violas she brought home, and really gave them a deep look to capture the shading. Check out the absolutely wonderful way that Elizabeth blended that soft yellow into the vibrant violet! That's artistry folks -- sweet and pure artistry! Just in case you wondered, she used Power Poppy’s digital stamp called Pansies. See more of the markers and process for Elizabeth’s card by following @saffronkingfisher on Instagram. What a pretty pastel birthday card featuring our January digital introduction, Sweet Pea Show. Lindsay Ettlinger shared her work with us over on the Power Poppy Facebook page, and we would love to see you share your work with us there, too. Such a light and lively treatment with the pinks and purples of these sweet peas, Lindsay, beautifully framed with lavender and pink accents! Speaking of purple... check out who made the cover of Australian Simply Cards this month! It’s our Bloomie Kathy Jones’ Climbing Clematis card front and center, what a fun thing to see! In honor of this exciting news, we’re offering the same digi that Kathy used on the cover for only $3 for a limited time. Come grab it if you need to add it to your stash. Wasn't that a wonderful bit of show and tell this week? Doesn't it have you longing for spring so you can see all these lovelies in real life? I can honestly say it has me pining for sweet and pure spring flowers for sure. I know the Bloomies would agree and, guess what? They have a Power Poppy Parade all their own! So, hop on over and see what these fine ladies whipped up for all of you this week! We are so honored to be able to share their work with you.... Hello, everyone! Today is a special day for Inspire Me Monday! Instead of just one Bloomie you get two! Allison and I are having a friendly challenge! We each set the other a challenge. We picked a stamp set, a coloring medium, and a sketch...for each other! The challenge Allison set for me was to: - Use either Forest Fellas or Gifts from the Sea stamp sets - Use Copic markers and colored pencils as the coloring medium - Use the sketch provided (sketch by Mojo Monday) Well, not too difficult a challenge! I really wanted to use the Gifts from the Sea image as I live in California and thought a beach-themed Christmas card would be awesome. However, I could not color such a detailed image to fit the small size needed for the card sketch! I ended up printing the digital version of Forest Fellas: Maximo Moose to color for my project. I colored Maximo with Copics and Prismacolor Pencils. I followed the sketch very closely and created a slimline card (tall and skinny is what we used to call these in the "old days"). My card is 8" tall and 4" wide. I had fun digging into my vast stash of 6x6 paper pads for some moose appropriate patterns for my card! I was thinking lumber jacks and log cabins! I love how it turned out! I stamped the clear version of the sentiment in brown ink. A bit of twine and a few enamel dots finish off the card. I had fun doing Allison's challenge! I hope the Bloomies can do more of these! Make sure to hop over to the Power Poppy Blog to see Allison's Creation!
Since Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I figured I’d better get a card ready to send my own mother. I knew that she would love this image from Power Poppy, but I wanted… More
September has arrived, and our family is going in a lot of new and different directions. Our daughter accepted a new teaching position at another school teaching a 4/5 split class and Spanish as a second language. We’ve been working hard to help her get all of her classroom shopping and set up done to set up before school started this week. Last year she started as a co-teacher so this was the first time for her to have to buy everything she wanted in her own classroom. It was fun to help her. Our middle son started second year University and is working and is going to volunteer as a youth leader. Lots on his plate! Our youngest son started grade 11 and jumped back in this week too. We’re grateful for good starts and we’re waving hello and goodbye to each other on the fly! Ministry is very full for us right now as well as we kick off a new season, but I’m also trying to slow down for a few quiet moments whenever possible and sneak into my hammock in the backyard to soak in the beauty around me. I’ve had orange on my heart, so today I’m bringing you another watercolor design using Power Poppy’s amazing Ultimate Poppy Digital Stamp Set. I printed it onto Arches watercolor paper and used Daniel Smith Ultra Fine Watercolors. It’s a beautiful image for watercolouring because you’ve got some great room to add lots of colour and washes. A simple design with some designer paper pennants accenting the colours in the painting. The pretty sentiment is from the polymer set, Strong and Beautiful. Some purple paint splatters and a cascading Baker’s Twine bow finish it off. Thanks for stopping by friends. I hope you’re September has allowed you to take some quiet moments for yourself and find joy in what is around you. It's Power Poppy's first birthday, and I couldn't be more excited to celebrate. I've had the honor of designing for a few different stamp companies over the years, and I have to say, Power Poppy is one of my favorites. First of all, Marcella is a delightful person full of life, joy, warmth and encouragement, and she has a passion for uplifting others through creativity, nature, and her gift of writing. Now who wouldn't want to surround themselves with people like that. And this entire team is a good representation of everything she embodies. Secondly, her designs exude the afore mentioned characteristics, along with being unique and filled with details that are a delight to discover, color and incorporate into projects. Like many of her fans, I eagerly anticipate her newest creations each month. Now, there is another super talented angel who keeps the Bloom Brigade informed, organized and pumped up for each new release too. That is the one and only Julie Koerber. She is another gem amongst this treasure chest of jewels. I truly believe she is one of the reasons our team works so well together. Not only am I blessed to be able to design along side this phenomenally creative team, I am honored to be able to call them friends. Congrats Marcy on your First Birthday! It's been a fantastic first year, and I wish you many more with an abundance of success and joy-filled adventures!! Okay...now a short blurb about my card. I used the sweet little Potted Primrose from the appropriately named set Potted Primrose, along with one of it's sweet little sentiments. I colored it with copics and popped it up in a diecut window frame from Cottage Cutz. Here is a list of the Copics I used: FV2, BV11, Y02, YG17, YG13, YG11, E15, E13, E09 Now, would you like a chance to win a wonderful prize celebrating Power Poppy's first birthday? Of course you would!! So, head on over to the Power Poppy Blog for all the details!! In case you haven't seen the rest of the Bloom Brigade's birthday projects, here are their links. ~Julie
Hello again friends!! I'm back again with another Power Poppy card to share today featuring the clear stamp set In Praise of Sunflowers. Isn't that a great name for a set? I ADORE sunflowers. They are one of my absolute favorite flowers, and this set has two fabulous sunflower images that were originally released as digital. Now, you can get both images along with some unique building sentiments. I stamped the sunflower four times, colored them, and cut them out in layers for a 3-D effect. I also burnished the backs of the center and leaves for some additional texture. I colored this baby awhile back, and forgot to record the Copics I used, so I'm sorry that I can't provide the list. But here's a close up angled view so you can see the dimension a bit better. Now, for some more fabulous inspiration, check out the following Bloom Brigader Blogs: Allison Cope Christine Okken Cindy Lawrence Katie Sims Stacy Morgan Tosha Leyendekker---you are here That's it for today. Stop by tomorrow for a preview of another fabulous Power Poppy set! Hi Gals So, after my red card using the Pure Prairie Spirit stamp set, here's the original piece that I was colouring. This card starts with a base of Bazzill Lily White and Heather card. On the Colour Copy 200gsm paper, I stamped Power Poppy's Pure Prairie Spirit (PPJUL1702) using a Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad. I blended a little Tumbled Glass Distress Ink around the edges. I started by colouring the background of the image first, it's a little hard to see on the card, but I started with Copic Markers G21 and G24 and added a little colour behind the flowers so that they didn't appear to be laying flat on the card. I then coloured the leaves and stems with Copic Markers G24 and G28. Now for the flowers, I used the following combinations - Yellow flowers Y11, Y08, Y17, YR24. Pink flowers - RV52, RV55, RV06, RV02 and V06. The Blue flowers - BV00, BV02, BV13 and BV17. The centre of the flowers was colouring with E31, E35, E37 and E79. I then stamped the words on a scrap of paper and adhered them to the top right of the card. Have a beautiful day. Happy Stamping Michelle & Robyn
Hello! Back for Day 3 of the Power Poppy Enchanted Garden clear stamp previews. Today we're showing Strong and Beautiful (link will be live on July 1). Perhaps you'll remember these flowers as a previously released digital stamp called Bowl of Beauty. It was too pretty not to release in a clear stamp set! Marcella tweaked it ever so slightly and gave it some very useful sentiments and, voila, a clear set is born. I spent some extra time with this one because I used Prismacolor pencils and I'm very slow with them. I did not use Gamsol for blending. Just pencils. I blended over and over again until the pencil lines virtually disappeared. I'm probably too dogged about that. After all, they're pencils; they're supposed to look different. Before I picked up a pencil, however, I created the background with Copic markers. Colored random patches of green, blue, and pink, then dropped colorless blender fluid onto it using a very skinny eyedropper (pipette from my medical lab days). Final background touch was to add all the little dots that float up and away. The sentiment was added last and colored with pencils. You'll find more info from Marcella and a link to all the dreamy team samples on the Power Poppy Blog. I'll meet you over there 'cause I want to see them, too. Have a beautiful day!
Good morning! The sunrise was beautiful this morning — lots of oranges and reds in the sky. Since I was driving, I didn’t stop to take a photograph, but now I wish I had. I… More
There’s a new month-long challenge up on the Power Poppy Blog today. I really enjoyed last month’s long/tall cards and I’m looking forward to seeing what you create for this month, as well. Check it out: It’s hosted by our talented-to-the-max Allison and she has this to say: “This month I want you pull out a coloring medium that you don't use that often. So if you tend to use Copic Markers, for instance, pull out your water color paints or your colored pencils instead! Let's see you use up some of those not-so-used mediums this month.” I’ve been switching...
Hello Power Poppy Friends! Today I am bringing you Berry It Digital Stamp. I couldn't make the August 25th post to release this image so I thought I would share it with you on my monthly inspiration post with a little coloring tip. This months tip: Don't be afraid to use grays to make your colors deeper and more rich looking. It helps to give more dimension and contrast to your projects. Here is how I teach to use grays; When I've colored a few berries with the regular colors, I decided where I want to make RV99 (in this case) darker. I then added N7 to that area and immediately went over it with RV69. These two colors will blend together on the paper making the top color a darker shade and you won't see the gray. Then I will blend it out with the sequence of colors, this is done lightly. Once you get the hang of it you can just start by adding gray before your darkest color and blending out from there. I used N gray because I didn't want any blue or brown undertones. I only do this with Copic XPress Paper as it allows me more time to work with my coloring and has less of a chance of looking "muddy" with more ink added. I will be back next month for more coloring tips! Rhea
Happy, Happy Friday!!! I am so ready for the weekend, and I'm super excited to share today's card with you. It has been a LONG time since I went full blown "distress mode" on a card. Years I think. And it was so much fun!!! I have a baby shower to attend for one of my nieces this weekend, and she's from an antique loving family. Her colors were navy and gray, so I thought I'd lean towards grays for this baby card. I added some yellows to make it a little more happy. I used Power Poppy's Precious Baby stamp set. This image includes a set of baby blocks, but I didn't think they fit well proportionally on the card, so I just cut them off. Easy peasy. Below is a close up of the image. For the inside, I used another of the sentiments included in this set. That's it for today's project. I hope you'll check out what the following Bloom Brigaders have to share today: Christine Okken Julie Koerber Katie Sims Stacy Morgan Tosha Leyendekker---you are here Thanks for visiting!! I hope you have an awesome weekend filled with creative ideas!! Happy Stamping! ___________________________________________________ Stamps: Precious Baby (Power Poppy) Paper: X-Press It, Captured Adventures (49 Market), Gina K Ink: Versamark, Hickory Smoke (Distress Oxide), Black Soot (Distress Ink), Whisper White (SU!) Day 3 of peeks is in full effect. Let’s really blow the lid off things with a powerfully eye-catching floral, shall we? When you select a stamp from your stash, do you think about what sensibilities that flower evokes? In my illustrated arrangements, I aim to combine flowers that have a meaningful AND beautiful effect. A uniqueness and harmony. An opportunity for challenge and learning. Nothing is just thrown together around here. (Oh, if I could only just throw things together, life would be easier!) Today’s new stamp preview is called Strong and Beautiful, and I feel those words spill from the petals and fronds in this bouquet. An uplifting, empowering tree peony unfurls with glorious hurrah. Above is a luxurious Chinese cultivar in my garden that bursts into bloom early each spring, and seems to tell all the other flowers in the garden to get with the program. Hellebores (also called Lenten Roses) are ALL THE RAGE right now in the horticultural world with their intense colors, unusual veining, sturdy petals, and sizzlingly cool centers. What a fun foil for that big peony! A fresh green fern reaches upwards as if raising an arm in celebration: “I got this!” Dancing bluebells twist to and fro... they just want everyone to have a good time. Introducing Strong and Beautiful If this image looks mildly familiar, that’s because is offered in another configuration in my digital download, “Bowl of Beauty”. For the clear stamp version, I’ve simplified the bouquet a bit, moved things around to create a sweeping arch, and given you a Hellebore and Fern as individual stamps, so you can create simpler cards, too. But the sentiments really tie this whole set together. “How Strong and Beautiful You Are” is one of my favorite sentiments we’ve ever offered. I think it pairs really well with this strong and beautiful floral showpiece. There are several other sentiments in this set, each with a few words that you can color in to coordinate with your card. ------------------- Once again, we are totally BLESSED to have an awesome group of talent helping to showcase Strong and Beautiful. Ladies, I turn it over to you: Allison Cope Stacy Morgan Christine Okken Kathy Jones Julie Koerber Leslie Miller Nancy Sheads Barbara Walker Broni Holcombe What a stimulating trip through the blogs, wowwww! But if you think we’re anywhere close to finished sharing cool stuff, girl, you have to come back tomorrow and see what else is popping!

Hi all! The sweet treats continue today with another brand new illustration fresh from the Power Poppy Shop! These juicy new images are from Power Poppy's Fresh Squeezed Scents Collection and each is just as divine as the other! On to my creation! Set your sights on this new image -- Healing Bouquet! It is rich in color and healing properties with sage, lavender, lotus, lemon and colorful porcelain vine! I colored this up with Copic markers and just kind of let the color flow. It's one of those images that you can just get lost in the process. I tried to add a little texture along the way to the lemon, adding dots of color and changing up the range of yellows as I went along. I also added a little white gel pen accents to both the lemon and berries --just to give both a little more depth. The sentiment is from the retired set called Dynamic Duos Glads and Gerberas. Here's a little close up for you! And, as you can see from my finished card above, I used a die-cut set to create my layers, a little foam tape to pop it all up and a couple of rhinestones to add a little pizazz! I have to say, this is just a beautiful illustration that was such a joy to color up! There's so much more juicy creativity thanks to the Bloomies! Just hop on over to these fine designers below and you'll see for yourself! Stacy Christine Leslie Ally Broni Barbara C Jenny Gloria Catherine Sathya Kala Lisa Cheryl See both new sets HERE! With a theme such as Sentiments, it's a perfect time to use again a stamp set I recently purchased that is made by Stamps of Life called Phrases2Say. I ended up making 10 cards in total. In making these 10 cards, the thing that took me the most time.. was putting the foam tape on the back of these panels. This paper is just too darn adorable. I wish I had bought more packs of it. The paper is some that I bought at Tuesday Morning sometime last year. I am not sure how many were in each package, but they were only .99 cents.. what a deal! also!!! After searching all over the place for mini/tiny brads.. I finally found them and was so excited when my package arrived yesterday.. I LOVE THEM!!! They are from the EYELETOUTLET and only $1.99 for 40.
