If you haven't noticed, I've been taking a break. Sometimes, I just have to turn off the computer and play. Yes, I know......it sounds miserable, but I assure you, You'll get so much more work done!! Remember the bowls I made, and how I got a little carried away...well....this time I have been making beads! Lots and lots of beads. I used up almost all of the translucent clay.....and then switched over to using up the ends of some old canes. Soon, I will post pictures of the beads I've made....but for now...... I've put together a picture tutorial for you, to explain how I made these beads. I figured out an easier approach to making my round beads. Plus I wanted to work on my tutorial skills......one, so I don't forget how I did it, and 2, to share. Let me know if it helps you create anything creative!?!? I started with 2 blocks of Fimo Transparent polymer clay, and divided it into 5 equal parts. Next, I rolled each portion into a ball and made a valley in the middle of each. Then I added the numbered amount of drops of Adironack Alcohol Ink (I used the color Cranberry) to each section.Next, mix up each section of clay and make sure you keep them in order~ from lightest to darkestI wanted a little more color in them, so I went back and added the numbered drops to the last 3 sections.Again, mix each section to blend in the ink.Once you have them blended, roll each color out using the largest setting on your pasta machine. In this next picture I sliced off the ends to make them the same size. Then I numbered them on the paper from lightest to darkest. Skipping the first one, I painted each of them with white acrylic paint. And then WAITED for the paint to dry!! If not you'll end up smudging paint all over your beads in the last steps.Once the paint has dried, stack the slabs of clay on top of each other from darkest to lightest. Make sure the painted sides all face up and that the last slab is the paint less slab......you don't want paint on the outside of your built stack.Once you have them stacked, use your acrylic roller to roll out the stack a little. Pick it up and turn it over, and roll on that side as well. Roll in all directions, but don't roll it too thin. Then it's time to start punching out your circles. I'm using a little one, about the size of a dime. Once you get it out, start rolling it on it's side. I think the picture does a better job explaining it then I would in words........just make sure that when you roll it, you keep the light side on one side and the darker side of the bead on the other. Don't worry if it's hard to see your lines, they'll come out brighter when you bake them!! The bottom row of beads is the color I used in this tutorial...see how the color deepens when they bake?Good luck and let me know if this helps!!

A tile cane is formed basically like a kaleidoscope cane which start with a triangle shaped cane, multiplied by two to create a square cane and then multiplied by four to form a design of a tile. This tutorial presents the steps starting with a triangle shape I drew on a paper as a guide and then forming all its parts while trying to maintain a triangle shaped cane, which is the base for the tile cane. The size of the triangle drawing and the height of the parts will determine the final size of the whole cane. I drew a triangle schema, starting with a 90 degree angle, measuring 9x9 cm / 3.5x3.5 inch from each side and connecting them with a line. you can draw a smaller triangle size, that will be fine too. The height of the parts I've assembled are approximately 5 cm / 2 inch, for me it is a nice and comfortable size to work with. Keep in mind a few things - The tile cane design consists of shapes and background, this tile cane has a white "background color", and its "shapes" are a variety of blue shades. When choosing your palette consider what is the color of your background and what are the colors of the "shapes". Let's start! The photos are easy to follow, create similar shapes as my design or create your own shapes and lines. Starting from a sharp angle, forming a few shapes and lines. Then adding the white background color and then continue adding lines and shapes. Then going to the second sharp angle and adding there shapes and lines, adding more shapes and also adding the white background color. ...another view of the step above. When the second sharp angle is done, connect the two parts of the angles with shapes and lines. Add more white for the background between the two parts of the angles then work on the 90 degree angle, adding shapes and lines. The first main cane, the triangle cane, is done. Reduce this cane to a long triangle shaped cane, at least 20-25 cm / 8-10 inch long, and try to maintain its shape and corners all the way through. Before dividing it into 2 parts, clean its sides until the design is clean and similar on both sides of the cane. Then cut the cane into two and attaching them to all of their length, being very precise so the design will match like a mirror, forming a square cane. Maybe it won't look like a square shape at first, maybe more like a rhombus shape, but that is OK, while reducing it just shape it into a square. Reduce this cane to a long square shaped cane, at least 20-25 cm / 8-10 inch long, and try to maintain its shape and corners all the way through. Clean its sides until the design is clean and similar on both sides of the cane. Cut the cane into 4 equal parts. The tile cane is almost done. Now comes the step to assemble the 4 parts and sometimes it is a hard decision. You can skip this step and work with the "quarter" cane, making a surface, mirroring the slices and creating a surface of tiles. Or, continue to assemble the 4 parts to a tile cane with the design you like the most. It was hard, but I chose this design. The tile cane after reduction. Hope you will try this tutorial. There are endless possibilities with this kind of cane and creating it is pure joy! This tile cane is available at my Etsy shop
Hey guys! Hope your week started off wonderfully :) The past two years I've watched mobiles becoming more and more liked. I, for sure, have caught myself eyeing beautiful mobiles several times. And the fun is that they are not only for kiddos anymore!! YAY!!! I mean, wouldn't it be lovely to hang a beautiful mobile somewhere outside, on the balcony perhaps or in the porch even better? Anyway, all that plus that I like playing with clay, gave me the idea to make my own, a bit smaller than the ones I'm eyeing, mobile. AnnaRosa on Vimeo. And when i made it I couldn't stop starring at it moving with the wind. So here is a video only to show you how beautiful it "dances". So, first thing you need to do is to make a handful of beads and four sticks with four holes each (mine are 20cm long). I used an air-drying clay but you can of course use whatever kind you prefer. Since I'm a minimalism-freak I left the beads white but you can always get more creative by painting them. As you see above, I made five types of bead-shapes and then I played with the size of them. I just always had in mind to make at least four of each shape. The most difficult part is to assemble the squared "wreath" where the beads will hang from. The photos below will guide you step by step to help you with it. Take a good look at the last photo, where the jute in the square forms a tic-tac-toe. That step is really important to make it strong and stable. Note that you need to tie a small knot where the jute meets each hole. Now that the hard part is over.....spice it up by adding the beads you creatively made!!! This was my favorite part.. And while making it I decided to add some copper beads as well! Cause what else do I love besides white clay? Copper! So obvious.. haha! Anyway, hope you like it and I'd love to see your versions or other mobiles you've made perhaps..
