Last week one of my kids was looking through the photos on my phone and said, “Momma, all of your pictures are either of us, quilts or cats!” I had to laugh because I am guilty as charged. I take photos of quilts all the time but some photos are better than others. There are certainly ways to help you get the best possible photos of your quilts.

I have a few exciting teaching announcements and a ton of planning, prepping, stitching, retreating, drawing, and scheming ahead of me. I will make this post picture heavy and hopefully brief. I have
Love pearls. Love pearl earrings. Love pearls bracelets. Love pearl necklaces. Love pearl embellishments. Love pearls. Yes, even the fake ones, since those are the only ones I can really afford. Costume jewelry? I'm on it! What doesn't look good in pearls? Jeans? Pearls. Sundress? Pearls. Comfy tee? Pearls. Name-brand suit? Pearls. Wedding dress? You've got it...PEARLS! So what do pearls have to do with quilts and quilting? Not so much. Unless you love both. Then you find a way to incorporate one into the other. A little inspiration... The last several designs come from a blog I discovered while writing this post. Shala lives in AK and posts mandalas on her lovely blog, Don't Eat the Paste, and Pinterest, which is where I found her work. Please visit her here and here. (And say thank you from Mary at Fleur de Lis Quilts!) Have a great week!
This week we will mix it up a bit, just in case you are tired of simply working with the Arc ruler. My intention was to use one ruler per block but the straight ruler is such a standard item, I dec…

Hello Everyone, Is it really the 1st of April already? It's time for the Country Charmer Quilt Along update. I'm so pleased to show you Tina's blocks. Tina has been following my blog for several years now and I always love to hear from her. I was so happy that she joined the quilt along. Here's a few snippets from her email: "I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed making the blocks! Love, love, love the layout pattern - it sure helps with all of those little pieces. I can't wait to see everyone else's blocks! I've not used checks/plaids and dots before so it has been challenging to use these fabrics instead of flowers, but I like the way the blocks are turning out." I like the way your blocks are turning out too Tina. Your quilt is going to be beautiful. My quilt is off the long-arm and into my arms while I work on the binding. Those of you that have been following my blog know that this is the third time I've made this quilt. So is the 3rd time a Charmer?? I made the first two quilts in greens and reds. This one is totally out of the scrap basket and was a lot of fun to make. Every color of the rainbow is included in this quilt. I love cross-hatching for an old fashioned look. You can get a sampling of all the different colors I used in this picture. My granddaughter said I "featherized" the borders. I like that word! I "featherize" quite a few of my quilts. I'm off to the shop (In Between Stitches) this morning. Just as soon as I get home, I'll travel around the world via the Internet and look at the progress everyone has made on their Country Charmer over the past month. Many thanks to all of you who are making my pattern. I've had so much fun watching your progress. Also, many thanks to Lesley The Cuddle Quilter for organizing the Quilt Along. Thank you to QuiltSue, from Quilt Times for making the cute little button that I keep seeing around the Internet. Remember, this is a low-key, no stress quilt along. You can jump in anytime and work at your own pace. We only post progress on the 1st of the month. Sometimes I post more often, I just can't help myself! Soon, Lynn

I finished Lisa's quilt today and love how it turned out! I feel like it took me longer than it should have. I guess dealing with a leaky drain pipe and loosing about 10" of quilting space because of a constantly growing tummy will do it. I really struggled at first about leaving some open spaces un-quilted in the motif, but I am really pleased I did, now it's all done. I used double batting. Warm and white on the bottom and Hobbs on top. Lisa always does a beautiful job with her piecing and quilts! I started to take pictures on how I made the motif block, but after, decided it was going to be to many pictures....so I had my daughter video tape me quilting it up along with the feather ring. ...now for the video... Okay...it's a really horrible video. Very shaky and sea sick like...bless her heart and not a great video camera...but you get the idea of how I do it. I've gone back and forth on whether I should put it up on my other blog or not.....it's really non-professional!! ...but if enough of you want to see it, I suppose I can post it. ;o) Would love to know your thought on this! ~Jenny~

I can't believe how fast these last 4 weeks have gone by! It seems I just got back from Lancaster, and now we are leaving for the west coas...
All along I planned on custom...really custom quilting this quilt and last minute decided not to today. It was so tempting...all that open space and so many quilting ideas running through my head as to what I could do. So what persuaded me to just do GREAT BIG SWIRLS? Time. Right now I can't afford to spend a lot of time custom quilting one of my own quilts, but I'm liking how it's turning out anyway! The first thing I did is stitched in the ditch to make my big circle. I then found my center and started my swirl in the center and went outward....now this part I go pretty fast and that helps my swirls look smoother. I don't have a stitch regulated machine...so I turn my speed up to make it go faster. My max speed on my machine is 100...I turn it up to 90. Yes, fast! Not sure about the stitch regulated machines and how you go fast on those? That's about it for this one, just one big swirl after another! ~Jenny~
