Our c. 1880 Alice Victorian corset is designed to be worn with the long, close-fitting cuirasse bodices of the 1880s. Ideal shaping when worn with your Victorian costumes and Victorian clothing or for a bridal corset. Either worn alone as part of your wedding dress or as an undergarment this style is generously boned giving the wearing an extreme nipped in waist. Also a great addition to any Cosplay costume or Steampunk ensemble. The front panels allow a generous fullness in the bust and hips while the waist is nipped in. This accentuates the extreme curves required of this era. Patterned for the modern body and without tight lacing, we are still able to achieve this pronounced curviness. Silhouette, dress elements & fabric details The linen robe “Wanderer” is made of two types of cloth: the base is of unbleached canvas-like linen, while the hood and sleeves are made of thinner, almost semitransparent linen, resembling coarse sackcloth and lightweight fabric of great lady's wimple at the same time. The robe dress is bias-cut, allowing the cloth to stretch a little, and has a slightly high waistline which forms a slim and elongated silhouette. The skirt of the robe, which is exceptionally wide - almost 8 metres along bottom, falls in soft long folds. Wide gauzy sleeves complete effect of something unearthly and fantastic. Regardless of the size, approximately 12 metres of cloth go to make this fantasy dress. Additional fullness of a skirt is achieved by adding in two godets — the front one is sewed in a bit higher than the rear one to emphasize the arch of the back and the loftiness of the stature. The ample half-round hood can frame the face as a shawl, or be draped in the manner of a scarf or a volume collar when necessary. Measures; 30" length, 24" waist. Smaller size, would have been worn with a corset. There is a vent opening at the side to easily add fabric to increase waist size if need be. Milk-white, beige shades, drapers, laces and artificial flowers were the obvious elements of Victorian era ball gowns. This outfit was made as an attempt to reenact the dress which young woman or a marriageable girl could have in late 1870s - 1880s. It will be good as a wedding gown as well. Lots of details, flowers and gentle shades make it a smart outfit for special occasion, yet modest enough for the first ball. The dress is designed to be worn with the proper period undergarnments: corset, bustle (omar tail), petticoat. But it will look well without them too: the bodice is tight enough and has plastic boning. The gown is made of mixed decorative fabric of light beige shade and has pure cotton lining. The bodice closes on back lacing. The skirt is worn separately and can be a part of another costume. Custom copy of other colours and sizes could be done. Renaissance Corset Florentine style boned linen corset The Italian Renaissance undergarment corset is made of two layers of white dense flax with 13 corset bones imitating whalebone used in those times. Dresses of the period featured short-cut bodice and the silhouette later named "Empire style". However, undergarment stays comes down almost to the waist and is laced on the back with the staylace. The foundation garment is meant for peak lacing of the upper part of the stature under the dress. Corsets of the period still had no sideways bones, casings or "underbust" cups. It stays actually flat. Low neckline allowed bust to be halfway released to make it easier to breath, on the one hand. On the other hand, that allowed to partly nude tempting curves, showing through the zephyrian semitransparent silk or linen muslin of the chemise. Since corset was worn next to the skin from considerations of modesty we attached not quite historically correct white linen underskirt taking advantages of the afteryears technologies.
