The main bar/pub in the capital city of Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. The Argentines call these islands the Malvinas and have never relinquished claim to them, despite losing the war to the Brits twenty years ago.
To Horsforth, near Leeds, for a family visit and an opportunity for lunch at the Rodley Barge. It's a typical unpretentious northern pub - in fact "unpretentious" is a rather, er...pretentious way of describing it, but it does have a decent range of beer - I went for the "Copper Dragon" from Skipton - and a range of basic, but well cooked, pub meals. Its main attraction however is its location on the side of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Rodley. In fact it is literally "canalside" with the rear wall of the pub forming the offside bank of the canal. After lunch we had a walk along the canal and I was reminded of how different this waterway is from the narrow canals of the midlands. The majority of the boats on Rodley's seven-day moorings were widebeams like the one in the photo above and both the bridges we saw were swing-bridges, which abound on the L&L. Starcross has never been this way (at least not while I've owned her) but the western end of the Leeds & Liverpool is a possible future long-term mooring spot and if that materialises then no doubt it won't be long before she does.
Framed, highly detailed UK payphone and cash point.

A race is on to save Britain's beloved crimson phone booth, threatened not by habitat loss or climate change, but by the ubiquity of cell phones. The country had 92,000 payphones in 2002; now, it has just 48,000. But devotees are finding new uses for the booths.
