Welcome to our Sewing Basics series! This week we'll be tackling how to read a pattern. If that's intimidating, this is for you!

TRINA is a classic wrap dress that features gathers above the bust and a cross-over front bodice that creates a deep V-neckline. The raglan sleeve transitions into a boxy, flowing shape. At the sides, the bodice front overlaps the back, allowing the tie to exit and wrap around the natural waist. Version 1: Create a tunic with the hemline ending just below the hip. The tie in this version is made with a contrasting fabric. Version 2: Create a dress with a hemline ending just below the knee. You may choose to line the skirt portion of this dress. Change it up to get a smaller mitten or change it down to get a larger mitten. You change the gauge by changing the weight of your yarn and/or the size of your needles. This is a digital draft-at-home pattern for a wonderful French costume outfit from the 1950s. The beauty of this drafting system is that this costume can be made for boys, girls, men, AND women! This kimono-sleeve jumpsuit costume is designed to fit quite closely to the body and is closed with a zipper at center front. The belt is a straight length of fabric sewn between the jacket and the pants. The skin-tight aspects of this model must be tailored to each subject during fitting. The pants, having three seams, are easy to adjust and fit in the desired places. This charming ensemble could be adapted for a number of costumes, just mix up the fabric you have, well, just about anything... Fabric: please see the photos. SIZING: 5 1/2 to 60" Bust. This is a pattern from a French pattern drafting system fairly similar to the Lutterloh golden rule patterns. You will be able to draft a pattern to your exact size from the miniature pattern template and specially designed rulers.
