Vorige week zondag was "de zondag" bij mij. Met ons vieren aan tafel. Wie dat dan zijn? Nou Wilma, haar moeder Loes en Petra. Loes heeft de Threadneedle Street helemaal af. Binnenkort ben ik in Schagen, wat er dan mee gaat naar Aljona? Precies! En de maakster bij haar werk. Ze heeft er met heel veel plezier aan gewerkt. Tijd voor een volgend project. Terwijl de dames op de grond druk bezig waren, zat ik gewoon lekker aan tafel te borduren. Wat zijn die Pretty Little Pots van Wendy Williams toch leuk om te maken. Lapjes en vilt uitzoeken, een leuk garen erbij en hoppa! De Pistil stitch ook maar eens gemaakt. kinderlijk eenvoudig, maar wel weer een leuk resultaat. Maandagochtend duik ik mijn kamer op om een begin te maken aan een van de blokjes van Curious Journey, de nieuwe bom in Amsterdam. "ineens heb ik de kolder in de kop" Ik erger mij kapot aan de rommel op tafel, zie door de lapjes mijn keuzes niet meer. in 'no time' staat mijn kamer op zijn kop. Worden stoffen gesorteerd en worden er van stoffen afscheid genomen. LZ verheugd zich op wat er komen gaat. De kliko krijgt dit keer NIKS. Worden er ook lapjes gevonden voor een volgend Pretty Little Potje. Hoewel vreselijk veel zin om deze te gaan maken moet ze toch nog even wachten. (ze wacht nog steeds) Maar het is ook mijn vrije dag, en om die nu helemaal op te maken aan poetsen en schoonmaken, opruimen enz. enz. is ook zonde. Op naar Barneveld voor het 'wekelijkse kopje koffie' Gezellig de benen bij Aaf onder de tafel schuiven. Irma is druk bezig met haar versie van Sweet Madeline van Brigitte Giblin. Het is niet moeilijk om te zien dat ze er erg veel plezier aan beleeft! Thuis pak ik de dames in de boot weer op. Badpakken met kekke badmutsen worden gemaakt. Blozende roze gezichten, Wiebelend in een boot, Pickwick vraagt mij wat ik uren doen kan? Nou da's niet zo moeilijk om die vraag te beantwoorden. In twee dagen tijd raakt mijn kamer weer opgeruimd. Tafel anders neer gezet, een tafel voor het snijwerk, ik kan weer heerlijk vooruit. In Amsterdam bijvoorbeeld, bij Petra Prins Amsterdam. Ook hier aan de Dear Jane, wat zijn en blijven dit toch leuke lessen. Ook worden er cirkels gemaakt voor nog een blokje Curious Journey. En terwijl ik bij Wilma op zaterdagmiddag in de zon zit, na de strijk, de was en de boodschappen, zie ik ook Annemarie weer eens, dat is werkelijk maanden geleden, worden bijna alle cirkels geappliqueerd. En vandaag? Vandaag is het "Start je Curious Journey dag' in Amsterdam. Daag! Fijne zondag, Juud Tot blogs, Remember; Better finished than perfect.

Classic Quilt Blocks have been sewn for centuries, are easy to recognise and are every quilters favorite. Let's celebrate these gorgeous blocks and add them to our quilting projects! It's tutorial week in my Classic Quilt Blocks series, and I'm really excited about this one. I've been pondering all week on the lack of antique Friendship Star quilts and I'm even more determined to encourage you to sew your own. Today's tutorial is quite simple and the only thing I wanted to mention was the HST units. I always cut my pieces larger than required and trim the HST's once they're sewn. No matter how accurately we cut and sew, they'll be inconsistencies and this method ensures your HST's are accurate and straight every time. Take your time when trimming the HST's - you don't want to lose any points. Use the sewn diagonal seam and the markings on your ruler as a guide or use a Bloc Loc ruler (if you have one) to trim the units accurately. The following tutorial will yield a 6" (finished block) and at the end I've provided a Cutting Chart for six sizes to help you cut and sew the Friendship Star block for an array of projects. I hope you had some time to plan a few blocks using last week's colouring sheet, and you're all ready to sew. Grab your fabrics and let's go: From your background fabric cut: 4 x 2 1/2" squares (A) 2 x 3" squares cut diagonally to yield 4 triangles (B) From your print fabric cut: 1 x 2 1/2" square (C) 2 x 3" squares cut diagonally to yield 4 triangles (D) With right sides together, sew a background (B) triangle to each of the print (D) trinagles, along the long sides and pressing seams towards the print triangles. Carefully trim each HST unit to 2 1/2" square, ensuring you don't cut off any points or seam allowances. Arrange the background (A) squares, the print (C) square and the four HST units into three rows of three squares as shown in the photo above. Ensure the correct orientation of the HST units prior to sewing. Sew the units together into the three rows, pressing the seams in alternate directions for nesting. Carefully matching all seams, sew the three rows together, pressing the long seams open to yield one Friendship Star block which should measure 6 1/2" square. Tada! One gorgeous Friendship Star block to use in future projects! I hope you had fun sewing along with me. It is a simple block, but I love how the star dances on that background fabric. So fun and so pretty! I've put together a Cutting Chart of six sizes for you to use for standalone quilt blocks, borders and cornerstones. Simply click on the link to download and print the chart or right click on the photo below and save it to your computer: Regardless of the size, the blocks are sewn together in the same way, but the cutting requirements will be different. I've also included the trimming size of the HST's to make it easy for you, so have fun! Next week I'll be sharing some variations of the Friendship Star block and showing you how these blocks look in quilts. I'm hoping these examples will inspire you to plan your own Friendship Star quilt. Happy quilting :)

For the Aussies I digress the blog title a slight twist on the old "This goes with that at Susans" advertising line............. anyway back to Lucy............. thought I had shared this but I hadn't so this is how I put my Lucy Boston blocks together.............. I join centre pairs and then put a green in this case and repeat for below then join those 2 sections and add the other 2 greens to make the section below......... I pair up the outer fabrics sometimes these have one directional prints etc and it is easier to think as I join them in pairs then as I put each one onto the block........ then it all goes together...........OMG when I first started I sewed wrong bits in or joined the wrong angles...........thank goodness I found a system.........well it works very well for me anyway.............. then I add the units I have prepared of creams as per previous post........you don't need the little squares on all points......... then we grab the fillers (see this post) And this goes with that.........and Lucy starts to come together.......... Ignore the bottom left block as it is a corner and I am working that bit out............ I'll show you how I am finishing it off later.......... It needs more sewing and I am banned from Lucy at the moment................. I moved it apart a bit so you can see the outline of each block........... And just a bit closer.......... OK enough of Lucy..........I would not have done it today but we have free data with Telstra today so I have been getting some computer stuff out of the way.......updates etc..........I think they upped the speed because this morning mine was going SOOOOO fast for us..........not the case this arvo........... usually we have such limited amount I am taking advantage....... And it is hot so I am inside with the air con............... I got one of the flowers finished and now April is done.............yep April last year........ better late then never? Natures Journey............. And my beautiful feathered friend Jenny @ Bird on the Border has been visiting for a few days..........the Chookshed was buzzing.............more from Jen then me but hey I got some sewing done.............made the design board above for Jenny while she was here....... sadly she had to go home...........even if she banned me from Lucy and flogged me along with Natures Journey..................feeling heatly and reinspired with many projects and some time to do them.......... Block 33 - Farmer's Puzzle Block 33 - Farmer's Puzzle Two people have now told me this block reminds them of a swastika. I just don't see it unless I turn the block on point otherwise I see four arrows in a grid. I am glad I am not sashing my blocks on point otherwise I may not have included this one. My notes state this was a "lovely block to patch. I pressed seams of each half arrow in opposite directions so they nested perfectly." And so they did. Block 34 - Flock of Geese Block 34 - Flock of Geese This block was lovely to paper-piece and my notes state that the "points matched". However, my journal also states "block seams are a little mishapened but it should be ok once it is sashed". Country Sashing I have sashed both of these blocks into the fourth row of my Farmer's Wife 1920s quilt. I intend to have eleven rows of ten blocks so that the finished quilt should be the size of a good double. And so I come to the end of my Farmer’s Wife 1930s blocks with these last six blocks..... Block 65 – Mother. This was the second-to-last block I made but the last block to include inset seams. If you paper-piece this block ignore pieces F2, G2, H2 and I2 – there is no need for them. Farmer's Wife 1930s Block no. 65 - Mother Block 70 – Mrs Lloyd. I don’t know why this block got pushed to the back of the queue, perhaps because I had enough flying geese at the beginning. But I spent a pleasant hour patching and paper-piecing Mrs Lloyd. Farmer's Wife 1930s Block no. 70 - Mrs Lloyd Block 81 – Peony. I was thinking of taking the easy way out to make Peony using Gnome Angel’s simpler alternative. However, this was the last block I had to make so I decided to go for it. What a mistake!!! There are four 90-degree inset seams, one center partial seam and over 50 pieces. There would’ve been more pieces but I couldn’t see why the E3/E4, F3/F4, G3/G4 and H3/H4 pieces had been split (utter madness) so I joined them together. In the history of quilting, I can say with utter certainty – I will NEVER, EVER make this block again. My advice to you – take the simpler alternative. Farmer's Wife 1930s Block no. 81 - Peony Block 96 – Tirzah. I struggled to get the outer middle parts to match up with the corner units. This had the effect of me not liking this block very much. But it measures 6½” and it is done. Farmer's Wife 1930s Block no. 96 - Tirzah Block 97 – Tracy. When making this block you really need to pay attention when stitching the sections together. It is easy to get them muddled up. Pay attention and this block goes together fairly easily. But be warned – it is a lot of work. Farmer's Wife 1930s Block no. 97 - Tracy Block 99 – Widow. The date on this page of the block reminds me that I paper-pieced this block in September 2015! It is an okay block but very similar to many others in the book. It is the fabrics that make it different. Farmer's Wife 1930s Block no. 99 - Widow So there you have it – all 99 blocks completed.
