We made farms, colorful farms, crazy farms with rivers running through them - complete with bridges, and ponds, and bunnies... Well, best just to show you. We started with stamped rectangles, 5 paint chips and a river... then we added texture on each square with stamps dipped in paint, stamps in ink, watercolor dots, zig zags and swimming fish... and bridges connecting the colorful islands over the river teaming with fish... and houses made of paint chips... and happy rabbits jumping in the trees... and smelling the roses... and happy bushes... and happy students... and a happy teacher... ahh what a perfect little world... Here was the original that I made using a monochromatic scheme, but of course their dynamic colors look oh so young and imaginative! The goal was to experiment with layers and different media and to keep going until it seemed just right. We analyzed the pieces as we worked and persevered until the art finally seemed happy. FYI remember the giveaway on the blog right below here - The fur balls will choose Tuesday! I am loving all the comments with the definition of 'crafty'. Check them out to be inspired.
From the Blogger: "When October arrives kids (or even the whole family) can spend an afternoon making this mosaic paper Jack o' Lantern. It is a great project for the fine motor skills and will keep everyone busy for a while. Once finished, it is a spooky one of a kind wall art to hang as a Halloween decoration for the room. The pumpkin shape on the website can be printed out. Black cardstock, construction paper in shades of orange and green, scissors, two sequins, and glue will be needed."
The origins of this art lesson came from a pin that I found on Pinterest connecting to the blog B Art Z - Elementary Art. I have been SO excited to blog about my new and improved cup weaving lesson! So last year I attempted to do cup weaving with my some of my students.. and while I loved the results.. the process was infuriating! For some reason I thought it was a great idea to weave with plastic cups - which made sharp jagged edges when cut by children. When that didn't go smoothly I thought myself sooooo clever to switch to styrofoam cups - which ended up making spokes (warp strips) that snapped off when pulled on to much. FINALLY I figured it out - PAPER CUPS!! These work PERFECTLY!! It is easy for the kids to cut the strips themselves AND they are surprisingly very durable. **Get them in bulk here! The first thing I had my kids do was write their name on the bottom of their cup with a sharpie. Then they placed their upside-down cup onto a template I created and made a tick mark on the rim of the cup everywhere where they saw a triangle poking out - this gave them evenly spaced points to cut from. When cutting out the spokes/warp strips, it is extremely important to remember to cut out an odd number of strips so that when you are weaving your AB pattern, the pattern alternates each consecutive time around. I found that with the 9oz cups my kids were using, 9 strips turned out to be the perfect number. Once the strips were cut, students double-knotted a piece of yarn to one of the strips, then began weaving! This particular class worked for 5 days straight on this (they really are a wonderful group).. and I had a few students who even completed 3 very well done cups in this amount of time (a couple even got pulled for our county art show)! :)

Well this is another great pinterest finds and also a spin on one point perspective. We did the drawing in pencil. Then outline in sharpie. It keep my 5th graders guessing what it was going to be until we painted all blue. Some of the figured it out. Then we draw sea life and colored that in with color pencil and glued them on. It was something different then the city. Well like I said I found this on pinterest, but here is the link from where it really came from. http://www.onceuponanartroom.com/ Thanks so much Chani for the great project

This was a paper collage lesson I did with my Grade 4,5,6 students for our last project in June. It's that chaotic last week when some students are missing, they're hyper, I'm tired, so us teachers need a simple yet engaging art project to get us through the last days. So this project only needs scrap colored paper, scissors and glue sticks. I keep a big box in my room where kids put any leftover pieces of paper we use in projects. It fills up FAST yet I still find it difficult to purge this crazy box of scrap paper, lol So I asked students to choose a colour scheme and then simply cut out organic shapes and try to really fill their paper with lots of shapes. Once everything was glued down, they had the option of adding some lines with markers. I didn't get many pics of finished pieces but hopefully you can get the idea.
This lesson combines many techniques: drawing, cutting and shaping with paper, painting waves and composition. I chose to do this lesson with an upper grade class but it’s suitable for much younger children as well. Supplies: Brown, black, white and gray construction paper (I cut the white, black and gray paper in 4″ x 6″
