Certain brands have a knack for flying under the radar. It’s not that their products aren’t good, mind you; often, they’re delicious. But their branding systems are lacking in that they’re dull or simply outdated. Orchard Valley Harvest was undergoing a reformulation of their Chickpea Chips products with new, deliciously crunchy and bold flavors. The brand thought it was the right time to overhaul their packaging in order to appear more snack-able, fun, and flavorful, and recognized the opportunity to break free from their consistent, templated brand look across every category.

Create a beautiful yard with these creative landscape ideas with big impact.
Espaliered fruit trees don't need a lot of space: apples, oranges, lemons, pomegranates, pears, peaches, cherries and olives are shown below.
Mark and I have been discussing our plans for our landscaping recently. It's definitely been at the front of our minds, because after I put in about 2 hours of yard work on Sunday after lunch (details later), Mark was ready at 5:30 to head to Home Depot and start what I'll call "phase 1" of the process. This is what we've been living with: We have a LOT in store like ripping out concrete, changing the flower bed shapes, laying in a path, putting down a patio, and building a pergola. But for Sunday night, here's what we accomplished: We started by clearing out the ground cover that was in the bed to the right of our back doors. We picked up four common boxwoods at Home Depot as well as 8 bags of cypress mulch and 18 7x7" stone pavers. This side of the yard is the bane of our existence. TOTAL overhaul coming soon! First, I planted the boxwoods while Mark leveled the area under the kitchen window. We want a dedicated place for the grill out of the way and off of the 1960's sidewalk, so we laid down pavers with about 1" of space in between. I took a break for photos, clearly. ;) ...and Mark posed for a Home Depot plug. (not sponsored, but wish we were!) After everything was planted and set, I filled in the pavers with as much fine dirt as I could. We were winging this, so we might come back with sand to really set the stones, but so far this has worked. Then, Mark laid down the mulch. Details, people! And there she is! Y'all, this is SUCH an improvement to what we had. SIDE NOTE: Yes, the beds look really bare right now, but only because we went quickly to Home Depot to grab the boxwoods. They didn't have the rest of the planting I wanted, so we will go to a nursery soon to get the rest of the items. In the meantime, we have a dog that likes to get muddy and dig in mud, so we wanted to make sure we mulched the freshly dug up beds to deter that. Soon this will be lush with flowers and grasses. :) I really can't believe we got all of this done AND went to the store in 2 hours. I can't wait to see what our yard looks like in a couple months! Get ready, it's landscaping season! ...I'm SO sore...

I have here two lovely crucial mid century tableware items: a milk jug and a sugar bowl. I love Midwinter Stylecraft's mid 1950s style overhaul which brought us the "Fashion Shape", and feel its so distinctively applied to their sugar bowl and milk jug. "Orchard Blossom" is a charming design typical of the mid 50s with its stems of white blossom and brown, grey & olive leaves. These particular examples date from the early 1960s. Condition: There is a tiny nibble of a chip from the outer rim of the sugar bowl. The milk jug has a tiny spot of a mark underneath the glaze within the body of the jug. There's a photo which shows both issues in close up, so have a careful look. There are several minor scratches to both items. There's no crazing and no cracks on either item. Size: the sugar bowl is 6.5cm tall and the top lip is approx 12.5 by 12.5cm, with a base diameter of 4.5cm. The milk jug is 15.5cm at maximum length, 11cm tall at the handle and 9cm wide.

Fellow renovaters might agree: decision-making while trying to adhere to a budget is complex. Do we plunk down a nice chunk of change for something we really covet or do we convince ourselves to settle for the practical option? We didn't want to sacrifice style for practicality........but we also have to face the fact that this isn't our forever home, so high-end designs choices (such as these hexagon carrara marble tiles I'm still obsessed with) don't necessarily have to happen now. This bathroom has to be tough enough to withstand an 80 lb dog who has a penchant for hiding/scuffling in the bathroom during thunderstorms, and it could possibly be a kids' bathroom down the road. So we chose a textured ceramic tile (durability + no sealing necessary = yay) in a plank size. I know this look isn't for everyone (and I hope I don't sound defensive in my explanation above) but we are pretty pleased with the final product. The tiles are still a bit dusty so the texture doesn't translate well, but there's a subtle concrete look to the planks. Is our house the place where gray tiles go to die, as we also installed it in the upstairs bathroom and the kitchen? Some might call it safe, but I call it consistency.
