I restore the maps in my workshop and then reproduce, customise and frame them to suit my customers' needs. I guarantee that you cannot find higher quality maps anywhere else. *** About this map *** This is an exceedingly rare, old full colour map of Devon (or Devonia as it was called in Latin) created by master mapmaker Joan Blaeu from his workshop in Amsterdam and originally published in this Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Sive Atlas Novus in 1665. Originally handcoloured almost 400 years ago, this is one of the finest examples of this map that I've ever seen. This map looks great at all sizes, from 12x16 inches (30x40cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm), 18x24 inches (45x60cm) and beyond. I can print it at large sizes all the way up to 50 inches wide (125cm). The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map. Many of the towns, villages and cities in Devon are already visible in this map. Most of Devon's most populous towns and cities have already popped into existence by the 1600s. Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your hometown! Feel free to message me if you want to confirm if a certain Devonshire town or village is on this map. This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Devon or who has the west country in their heart. You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport. My museum-quality maps are printed on acid free archival paper with Epson ultrachrome giclée inks. *** CANVAS MAP INFO *** Some of my maps are available as canvas prints. These are 'box canvases' - the map is printed on canvas, and then stretched over a wooden frame. They come with brackets on the back and are 'ready to hang'. My maps look fantastic when printed on canvas, but please note that canvas reduces the sharpness of my maps. So, for example, a small label might be legible on paper, but too small to read on a canvas map. Generally, most of my maps should be fully legible at 24x36 inches (60x90cm). But please get in touch if you want me to check if a specific label will be legible.
About 5 x 8 inches.

It was published by Dutch mapmaker Abraham Ortelius in his 1584 edition of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum - the most important collection of world maps of the 16th century. This map was originally handcoloured almost exactly 450 years ago and has been lovingly restored by The Unique Maps Co. Beyond Tartary, this map is also one of the first to show Japan and some of North America - though their shapes are barely recognisable! This is the first ever published map to show California. Back in 1584, Europe's understanding of the world beyond the Caspian Sea was fairly limited. Though, despite the rather unusual landforms, you can see that many towns are quite accurately named and placed. Take a look at some of the detailed product images to see if you can spot your hometown! Or get in touch if you want to confirm if a certain location is visible on this map. This map looks amazing at all sizes, from 12x16 inches (30x40cm) to 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 18x24 (45x60cm). It looks truly beautiful at larger sizes like 24x36 inches (60x90cm) and beyond. I can print this map at sizes up to 90 inches wide - 230cm. The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map. I also have a map, also by Ortelius, that shows a zoomed in view of Russia, Moscow and the western parts of Tartary: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1036794463/old-map-of-russia-and-tartary-1584-by This map would make a perfect gift for someone from Russia or one of the countries shown on this map, or perhaps someone who has travelled across Central Asia. It would look great as wall art on your own walls! It's a beautiful piece of wall art that would make a good housewarming gift. You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or if you'd like to frame one of the larger map sizes. Back in medieval times Latin was the language of maps, and Wallia was the medieval Latin name for 'Wales'. The map's full name, 'WALLIA PRINCIPATUS Vulgo WALES' means 'The principality of Wallia, commonly known as Wales'. Most of the place names are in recognisable English, however! By 1645, many of Wales' most well known towns and villages already exist. From Abergavenny to Hay, Caernarfon to Denbigh. Cardiff, Newport and Chepstow are all clearly visible along the south coast, as are all of the little villages on the west coast in Pembrokeshire. This map looks great at all sizes, from 12x16 inches (30x40cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm), 18x24 inches (45x60cm) and beyond. I can print it at large sizes all the way up to 50 inches wide (125cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options. The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map. Please note the unframed 24x30 inch map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images. This map would certainly make a nice gift for anyone in Wales, or someone who has Wales close to their heart. There are also some very large sizes of this map available, which really look spectacular - if you have a big space to present the map, such as a hotel, office, bar, pub, or other big hospitality space that needs decorating. You can also have this fantastic map printed on a face mask / neck gaiter / face shield, which could help prevent the spread of coronavirus/covid 19: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/824778254/wales-face-mask-neck-gaiter-snood-with My museum-quality maps are printed on acid free archival paper with Epson ultrachrome giclée inks.

It was created by John Speed and engraved by Jodocus Hondius, and originally published in Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine". This map looks great at all sizes from 12x16 inches (30x40cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 18x24 inches (45x60cm). But it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70 inches (175cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options. The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map. I also have this same map, but with the original handcolouring. It may better suit your decor/aesthetic: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/919459674/old-map-of-caernarfonshire-wales-1611-by Many of the towns, villages and cities in Caernarfonshire are already visible in this map. And of course, Snowdonia is here - as Snowdown Hill. There are two lovely engravings of Caernarfon and Bangor - still two of the largest towns in the county today. Caernarfonshire is now a large part of the modern county of Gwynedd. Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your hometown! Feel free to message me if you want to confirm if a certain Caernarfonshire town or village is on this map. This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Caernarfonshire or who has north Wales in their heart.

Notably St Peter's Basilica isn't on this map - instead there's the Circus of Nero (also known as the Circus of Caligula) which would soon be knocked down and replaced by the Basilica and other Vatican structures that you'd see today in Rome. The map has 269 numbered points of interest, with a legend at the bottom of the map to help you find them.

If Shakespeare visited Norwich, this is what it would've looked like. This map was first published in Civitates Orbis Terrarum - the Cities of the World - which was a cartographical masterpiece featuring 546 maps. Norwich was a pretty big town almost 450 years ago. But the only structures you'll likely be able to identify are the city walls and the castle. You may recognise that some of the streets are in the same position too. This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Norwich or who has East Anglia in their heart. This map looks great at all sizes from 12x18 inches (30x40cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 24x36 inches (60x90cm). But it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70 inches (180cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options. The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map. You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame, or to frame one of the larger maps. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.

It's one of the earliest, if not the earliest, European map of China - and the first to show the Korean peninsula taking shape (but it still had a long way to go). It is also one of the rarest maps of China - there are likely less than 10 original copies still in existence. In the four corners of the map are representations of how Europeans thought that the Chinese and Japanese lived their lives. Take a look at the bottom left corner, where a three-headed man is being worshipped by two other men... The map focuses on China, but it also has nice renderings of northern India and the Ganges river, and a very nice early version of the Japanese islands. This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (30x40cm), 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 18x24 inches (45x60cm), but it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 80 inches (200cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options. Please note that the unframed 24x30 inch map has small white strips on each side that can be easily snipped off - or they may help you with framing. All other maps, and framed maps, look like the listing images. The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map. This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from China or who is interested in the history of the Far East.

Some of the other Essex towns and villages that can also be seen on this map include: Romford, Brentford, Chigwell, Basildon, Billericay, Clacton and Wivenhoe. But of course, many of them are spelt in their Early Modern English forms. Curiously, Southend on Sea didn't exist yet! There is the small village of Prittlewell, though, which would later become Southend. Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your hometown! This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Southend, who is looking for a map of north or east London, or who has Essex in their heart.
