Le delta de l'Okavango, Botswana
When planning your Okavango Delta safari, there's sure to be one word on your lips, 'mokoro'. Many water-based lodges offer a scenic ride on these traditional dugout canoes, where you'll depart in the early morning or late afternoon to traverse the liquid passageways with your guide at the helm. No one knows the Delta better! Take this time away from the rumble of a 4x4 to spot the smaller creatures of the Delta, from tiny, emerald frogs clinging to the reeds and vivid birdlife flitting between the papyrus. You'll also navigate round wallowing hippos and see members of the Big Five drinking on the banks. A true fluke of nature, the dry season months of July to October are when the Delta is at its fullest.

The extraordinary Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp nestles in a private wilderness concession measuring over 25 Thousand hectares to the south-east of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the centre of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Famous for its lush, abundant wildlife and waterways, the Okavango Delta is home to many aquatic and land species. Located in the heart of crystal clear waters, the Camp offers visitors an exceptional water experience. With scenic views opening up onto a permanent lagoon of the Delta, this remote and tranquil camp combines the best of what the Okavango has to offer. Guests have the opportunity to glide silently on a mokoro/dugout canoe to explore the mosaic of islands which nestles among a labyrinth of channels. Accommodation Nine spacious tented suites look out onto the breathtaking Okavango Delta scenery. Four poster beds on bleached floors offering extensive views onto the bird life paradise await guests. The en suite bathroom in the luxury tent at Xaranna promises the luxury of a deep, warm bath while a refreshing shower waits for either indoors or in nature. Guests may watch the waters of the Okavango Delta from the cooling comfort of their private pool. Facilities Guests may relax and get comfortable in the guest areas which look out onto the classic Delta silhouettes. Socialising in the spacious games area or enjoying the tranquillity of the camp's secluded reading spots are appreciated by guests. Dining Flavours of delicious meals are served in the open-sided dining room or the romantic African setting around a roaring fire under starry skies at the camp's open-air boma. Activities The game drives, guests explore the wildlife surrounding the Camp on morning and afternoon game drives in the open air 4x4 safari vehicle which is accompanied by an armed guide and tracker. During the interpretive bush walks, travellers take a leisurely walk in the surroundings of the Camp to take in the sights, smells and sounds of the Okavango Delta, accompanied by the camp's armed guide. River cruises in an electrically powered mokoro allow guests to explore the waterways of the Okavango Delta by boat. The Okavango Delta of Botswana Situated in northern Botswana, the Okavango River is a unique natural phenomenon which flows more than 1 100 km from its source in Angola. This unique river disappears beneath the sands of Botswana, creating a lush inland delta in the midst of this arid region of Botswana. The Okavango Delta is in a constant state of flux, expanding and contracting according to the rain falls. While some parts of the Delta remain permanently flooded, others only experience high water levels from May to September, when rain waters from Angola reach the outer stretches of the Okavango. Covering about one-third of the Okavango Delta, permanent swamp areas are lush and green, with groves of wild date palm, papyrus and water lilies growing around deep lagoons lined with riverine forest. This Camp lies in the channels and lagoons of the southern, seasonal part of the Delta.
