My kids had a pretty good grasp on time when they came to me as 2nd graders. Everyone could tell time to the hour and half hour! I call that a win for sure! SO we jumped right in using Amy Lemon's unit: My cuties loved writing and sorting to show me what they know! Amy had the cutest craft in her unit, but it wasn't seasonably appropriate so I used the clock she provided and had my kids make snowmen and snowwomen :) I think they turned out great! What do you think? I try and put Time centers in most of my Center packs so that my kids see it over and over again! I found this adorable clock in my files, but I couldn't find the master so I went searching on TPT... This is what my kids will be making tomorrow during math to introduce time to the five minute! (Click on the picture to go to Amber's store and get her freebie!) I also made this freebie a couple of years ago when I was just starting out with the whole creating thing ;) I will be back in a few days with more friends! Have a great evening!
While browsing spending hours poring through my Pinterest boards over the past few weeks, I've been inspired to change up some things ...
For the holidays this year, it looks like most of my gifts are going to be food-related. Specifically, it looks like I'm going to be making a TON of bacon jam. Unfortunately, while bacon jam will keep in the fridge for a few months, it's not something I'm ready to start making in mass quantities just yet. I only have a few other gifts to make for people who would really prefer I give them something handmade than store-bought. So, on pinterest (of course), I saw these: They're not the usual Sadie Priss-sort of craft, but it's a gift for someone else. Someone who collects snowmen. And the tutorial (which is very easy to follow) is here. So this is what I did, to end up with these in less than an hour... Following the tutorial, I bought cheap white men's socks at Walmart and two pairs of cute ankle socks ($1.50 each) at Target. To make one snowman, I cut one white sock and each of the blue socks (per instructions in the tutorial). I did this same thing to make the snowman with the gray sweater and hat. The white sock is the body, the sock that is open at both ends is the sweater, and the sock with just the heel cut off is the hat. I did sew the end closed (this step wasn't in the tutorial but I had a hard time trusting that the rubber band would hold all that rice FOREVER), and then wrapped it with the rubber band to hold it tight. Filled it with rice, then held the top together with a rubber band, and then also stitched the top closed. Obviously, I have trust issues with rubber bands. I added one sock to the body as a little snowman sweater, and the other as a hat. And tied with string, as directed. I added (with hot glue) tiny black buttons for eyes and a few buttons down the front of the "sweater". I also colored the end of a bbq skewer with a orange marker and glued it on for the "carrot" nose. And just to be safe, I hot glued the hat onto the head of the snowman. It fits pretty tightly, but I will have to eventually ship these boogers so a little hot glue never hurts! The blue is cute but that gray one is my favorite!

I am linking up with Sparkling in Second, Peppy Zesty Teacherista, Third in Hollywood and Teach Create Motivate for Week 3 of the TPT Seller Challenge. This week's challenge is to create a new product for your TPT store. My cousin retired this year after teaching for 36 years. She had over 1600 Scholastic Book Club Points that she let me have. Isn't she awesome? So I ordered some books for my classroom. One of the books I ordered was Wemberly Worried. I created this craft and writing and thought it would be cute for students to use as a Back to School activity to write about a time when he/she was worried. The craft comes with 2 choices of writing paper. To see this in my TPT store, just click the cover page below. If you would like a chance to win this activity, enter the Rafflecopter below. a Rafflecopter giveaway Thank you for entering and don't forget to link up with these ladies!
I am slightly behind in the blogging world thanks to serious illness. I was lucky enough to get the flu, strep, and pink eye all at once! Oh the joys of teaching first grade... :) We celebrated our 100th day of school on February 11th. I felt so bad to leave this crazy day to my student teacher and a substitute, but I was just too sick to go to school. They survived stealing and biting and ended up doing great! Some of the activities included 100th day checklist 100 poem Gluing 100 items to a paper. The kids were told to bring 100 small items to school, and then sorted them into groups of 10. The two pages were glued together and then taken home. 100 days crown We made a necklace with 100 fruit loops. After every 10, they put a star. They made a portrait of how they will look when they are 100. I also made a 100 words paper, but we never got to it. All in all, it looks like it was a fun and CRAZY day!
