I'm a nursing student, a year away from graduation. I go to university in a rural area. I'm 24 years young. Why am I writing this? I've decided that 1) this could be very therapeutic 2) I've been through quite a bit while attending nursing school. Rather than hiding those experiences, positive & negative, it's better to share with fellow students. By sharing I hope that others see that they are not alone and perhaps side step some mistakes or negative experiences along the way. I hope to post frequently, forgive me if I become quiet at exam times (we all know how stressful that can be). I plan to cover a variety of topics because well, life is a variety. To start with, university has changed me as a person as a whole. The person I walked into nursing school as is no longer the person I am today. I like to think these changes have all been for the better, while getting to this point has not always been positive - the end result I see everyday in the mirror certainly has been...in my (personal) opinion. I think university has that effect on everyone, in any choice of degree. However, (perhaps I am biased - I am) a BScN has a lot of challenges that other fields may not. You get tested mentally, emotionally, physically and well just in every way possible. However, these challenges provide an opportunity for vast growth, the way you see the world changes in all aspects. You become thankful everyday for really everything. I mean if you learn about the social determinants of health and realize how many positive determinants you have had at this point in your life, it's hard not to feel very grateful. On that note, You will always have bad days. That's life. Sometimes the challenges you face throughout your degree will very much test your patience and feeling tired & cranky, may become a common mood (I'll post about this soon). Although, tired & cranky can be a common theme throughout university, there are many ways to remind yourself to be happy & grateful (I'll also post about this). Wish me luck on this new adventure, hope you all enjoy! xo, A.N.

Fasten your seatbelts! This summer, we took an Epic Canadian Road Trip, driving from our home in Kalamazoo, Michigan all the way out to St. John’s, Newfoundland (yes, a ferry was involved). Why? Well, I’m the co-founder of Writing Walking Women, and we chose St. John’s as the site of our conference this year – MUCH more on that to come!
