This PowerPoint is a great way for English & non English speakers to practice speaking and reading about their emotions. It consists of the vocabulary sad, angry, happy, and scared. You can also practice using: He is/She is, I am, I feel, I feel ___ because...., There are cute illustrations used from www.mycutegraphics.com by Laura Strickland (website gives permission to use) Teacher can use this powerpoint several different ways: 1. Read questions and sentences together. 2. Break into groups of two or more. Students will examine pictures and come up with a sentence to describe the picture. It can either be the same sentence that will pop on a click of the mouse or something similar. Use a point system to see can say the most correctly. 3. Print these cards out like flashcards and glue on construction paper. Then give each student a card. Teacher can say the sentence while others repeat. 4. Use other ESL strategies

Link to the resources: https://www.bilingualmarketplace.com/products/emotions-unit-for-kindergarten-efl?variant=35467826430116 For children, happy and sad are easier to draw on a face than any other emotion. So teach them on the board how to draw a surprised or scared face using the mouth region. Use bright colors for the mouth, such as red or orange. Have students recognize emotions on pictures or cartoons. Emotions or Fellings Flashcards: The right hemisphere of the brain is the image brain. Flashcards stimulate the image brain activating the photographic memory. Flashcards with pictures make visualization easier. It will increase children´s reading ability in the future. Ask: How are you? Students can point to a flashcard and say: I am happy! Feelings camera: This printable camera can be used for this lesson or at any time when emotions are an issue in class. Have some students pose an emotion or use it yourself. I also added some polaroid blank photo templates for the students to draw their emotional face. Bean Bag Game: Draw 2 circles with sidewalk chalk o more if you want to review other emotions. Draw a happy face and a sad face on each one. For the circle I helped myself with a Hula Hoop. Have students throw beanbags onto a face and name the feeling: happy or sad. Ask individual students if they are happy or sad , have him or her make the corresponding expression and throw the beanbag. The idea of the worksheets is to think out of the box, to take the students a little further than just filling out a sheet of paper. It can serve the purpose to review basic concepts and to continue to a more creative purpose. Motivate the little ones with craft-like activities, giving them lots of exposure to English. Each child can use his/her own creative way. Puppets: I made these puppets out of fun foam and added wiggly eyes. Paper Plate Puppets:Go to www.dltk-kids.com and get the templates. I used white paper plates, painted the face in pale pink. Then, I colored and glued the pieces. Feelings patterns: using the same faces, I made these out of cardboard. Have children make patterns on the board. Start the pattern with a hapy or sad cutout. Distribute the remaing cutouts to individual students. Elicit the pattern from the class and have the individual students place the cutouts and continue the pattern. T: sad, happy... What comes next ? Ss: happy. Do as many times as you want changing the pattern. Follow my board on Pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/ei98srl/eslefl-emotions-feelings/ Follow me!!

This is the blog post for part 1. https://eflelementaryresources.blogspot.com/2018/03/town-and-community-helpers-plus.html Either go to the post or watch the video: Here is the link to the complete product: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Town-and-Community-Helpers-plus-transportation-themes-for-the-ESL-learner-3735921 You can also find the resource here: https://www.bilingualmarketplace.com/products/town-and-community-helpers-plus-transportation-themes-for-the-esl-learner?variant=36958760304804 I added a board game. I printed it on a letter size paper. Watch the video. All the town items are in a road circuit. This game will not need a die. Each student will pick a transportation marker, which I taped an opened clip behind the card. The first student picks a card from the pile and reads the questions. Then, moves the transportation marker to the town place and puts the card on it. If the student knows the answer can place the card, if not, that student can’t place the card. The winner is the student that places the most cards on the road. Watch the video: A teacher that bought this product said that the cards were too small. I appreciate when teachers say something to improve. I made the cards a little bigger and they work well for sorting. The cards can be used for distance teaching by placing a craft stick behind each one and turned into flashcards. The actual flashcards that come in the product are classroom size. It can be sorted on a table or use the pocket chart. Have the students make sentences. Teacher: The zoo keepers are at the zoo. They have a jeep. Just 4 Worksheets for sorting the town places, the community helpers or jobs and transportation. First, have the students color the worksheets as you dictate each one, or even better have the students dictate how to color each one. Then, students write the word for each item in all the worksheets. Teacher: The post office is purple. Have the students cut all the cards from the worksheets. There are many things that you can do with them. I just thought of sorting. Students can write sentences on their notebooks. All the community helpers resources have been bundled. I´ve gathered a lot of old clip art to make this big collection. There are 315 flashcards from old jobs and occupations to the present. Listening is a much debated topic for the teaching community. Do you do a lot of listening with your kindergarten students? Do put a lot of viseos to keep them busy? Do you use the CD that comes with the book series that you are using ? Or, are your speaking all the time and your students just listening? It is said that usually students do more listening in class that speaking. And, yes, it is important that students do a lot of listening before they start speaking. Open with model sentences that they can recreate with other vocabulary. There some types of classroom listening performance that we should include in our lesson planning. Reactive listening in which or students will listen to any word, stucture and repeat it.Great for choral drills. Responsive listening where you want a response from your students. When you greet them at the door, you say Hi! and they inmediately answer: Hi! When you give them commands such as: stand up,sit down, come here, color, cut, show me, draw! When you check comprehension as you dictate something for a worksheet or activity book: Color the square yellow! Play games where students have to point to a picture or flashcard as they listen to what is said. Have students draw, or color to what you say. Model sentences, phrases for your students to repeat as you show flashcards. Ask questions about any drawing, something on the student book or flashcards. As you write your lesson plan, make sure to include listening activities. Plan any listening resources that will be of interest of your young learners. There are many games that make them speak and have others listen. The very common 3P's procedure can be used to plan your lessons for teaching Kindergarten English Language Learners. This is the procedure that I learned when I took my TEFL course in ILAC,Canada. I still use this procedure for lesson planning and for the resources that I create are based on this procedure which has been successful for my students. The 3Ps mean: Presentation, Practice and Production. Three easy words to remember. Presentation is introducing the new vocabulary or grammar structure. Use flashcards, small cards, or cutouts to present all the new to your students. Be creative and varied as to what to use with your students. If I used the flashcards the last class, I would choose the small cards or the cutouts for the next class. Practice is done with the workbooks or worksheets. This is drilling and repetition part that for young students you should have fun worksheets to do the job. Production is where students show off what they learned and games are the easiest way to put all their knowledge to use. We never have enough games for the youngest students. They love games. I usually have a variety of common, simple and easy games to play. I am sure that many teachers use this teaching procedure. If not, here are some basics on this topic to get you started. Click the link below to take a look! →Everything You Need for ELL Newcomers ULTIMATE Bundle← --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why this program? I know what it's like to be unsure of how to support your ELL students. In my early years of teaching, I oftentimes didn't know how to support my ELL students either, nor did I have the time to give them the materials they desperately needed. Instead, I would end up giving them a worksheet in hopes they could at least learn a few vocabulary words. After receiving my ESL endorsement and working with ELL students for many years, I have become passionate about giving ELL students ample opportunities to learn while also supporting teachers by creating a more engaging curriculum for ELL Learners. This program goes way beyond the typical worksheet. It incorporates weekly rich vocabulary lessons, along with an interactive grammar notebook activity, speaking games, authentic reading and writing opportunities, and an extra practice opportunity for homework. Daily lesson plans are provided so even a teacher assistant or parent volunteer can offer support. The most important piece of this curriculum is seeing the joy on students' faces when they begin to recognize vocabulary and speak sentences in a new language. ✍Related Products Interested in another resource for newcomers or the needs of your rising ELL students? This is the Food Unit Resource FOR k-2 English Language Learners. LINK: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Food-Unit-for-Kindergarten-Holistic-English-Series-15-6741090 Lots of Practice with the Food Unit Worksheets. Worksheets can be fun and students can engage at their own pace. Students like a little coloring, cutting, pasting and making a craft all along. This is the set of the Food vocabulary workstsheet with tracing the words if your students are ready. Writing simple words is the best start. Make the like and don’t like puppets. Use the puppets with all the resources as the students easily express their likes and dislikes. Or, the students can draw what they want to eat. Take a look. Emotions and Food. After coloring the drawings ,students cut and paste the items as they sort them into happy, sad or angry. I assembled the three pages into a book. Students listen and point: Teacher: Point to the sad lemonade! Students can named each food item along with the emotion. Students: a happy cereal! Just watch on how I assembled the worksheets and how I used them for listening and speaking. Plate and food worksheet. Three ways to use it. One is to cut and paste the food from the template. The other is to have students to cut food from magazines. Check with your students the eating utensil on the worksheet: fork, knife. Have the students describe their worksheet. There is a hamburger. There are some french fries. Ask more questions: What do you have for lunch? Student: I have a hot dog and a salad. Ask more questions: Is there any pasta on your plate? Student: No, there isn't. There is some salad. Students listen, draw and color. Teacher: Draw two hamburgers. Draw three hot dogs. Draw lemonade. Use the worksheet for speaking! Six plates to color as written on each one and place food on the plates as the students listen. Teacher: Put the egg on the yellow plate. What color is the chicken? Students: brown! I put up the picture on Instagram. Follow me there. Trace and color food unit worksheets. Motivate your students to stay on the lines as they trace each picture and/or word. Puppets can be made as an extra activity for these worksheets. Students can say sentences using the verb eat. I eat pizza! Use the worksheet to express likes. Then, say what they don't like about the food and drinks. Utensils worksheets. Dictate the color of each utensil. Have the students cut each one and organize them on a table. You can have them make a placemat with construction paper. Tell the students to set the table as they listen to your instructions. Teacher: Put the plate on the placemat! Put the fork next to the plate! Continue with spoon, knife, napkin and glass Pull out the menu worksheet! Play around with the cutouts before they create their menus. Have the students sort the drinks and food items. Help them associate being hungry with food and thirsty with drinks. There is a shopping list and a shopping cart available and some market items. Students cut and paste everything they would want to buy into the cart or the list. They can also draw the items or cut food from magazines or supermarket ads. Students will make sentences. I want bread and cereal. And there is the lunch box worksheet. Cut and paste the items onto the lunchbox. Students will say what's in their lunchboxes. Teacher: Point to the sandwich! Take a look! Besides of food going into the lunch box it goes on the table. There are three table worksheets, one for each meal. Students can cut and paste the food that belongs to each meal or simply draw what they usually eat for that meal. Review the numbers 1 to 10 with these worksheets. There are two sets of worksheets, one with cereal and another with pepperoni. It is a cut and paste worksheet. You can also make a matching game if you use them as cards. More number practice as independent work. It's a color by number activity. A worksheet to review the family members. You can dictate what to draw or each person. Teacher: Mommy is drinking lemonade! Draw the lemonade. Another way could be that students draw what they want and then say the sentence. Student: Daddy is eating a hamburger. You can use this worksheet for the fruit and vegetable unit. Shapes is another theme to review with the pizzas. Teacher: How many pizzas do you see? Students: four! Find the triangle! Point to the triangle! Color the triangle blue. After all the pizza shapes are colored have the students cut and glue the word. And review of the face theme. The food has facial features to color as you say. Teacher: Look at the sandwich! Color the eyes purple. Color the mouth red! What's missing? Students: hair! ears! nose! Teacher: OK! Just draw and color them on the sandwich. The cookie set of flashcards have the worksheet to use as well.Review parts of the face and school supplies. There's also the lemonade and ice cream set. More esl food worksheets for more fun. There is a worksheet for the students to draw their favorite food. Take a look at the complete the pizza which students can decorate using different materials to have their personal version. Now, the veggies. My last blog post was about fruit. You can either work each unit separately or join them and make a fruit and vegetable theme. You can mix and match the resources from the fruit unit. I only included: carrot, onion, tomato, potato. Resources Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Vegetables-activities-fro-Preschool-ELLs-2370509 The resource is also available here: https://www.bilingualmarketplace.com/products/vegetables-activities-for-preschool-esl?variant=37152063291556 I made this book to be used with the fruit book from last blog post and with the food book from a previous entry. Reading is all about knowing the letters. Children must learn the correspondence of the letter and the sound. Fun and easy for the students to relate the letter to a vegetable. Tracing the letters and the word makes it easy for children to learn them. Children can have a designated finger to trace the letters and words as they read with you. Then, trace with crayons and name the vegetable. Once again cutouts. Use them for recalling vegetable words and sorting. And for counting and identifying vegetable vocabulary. Place the numbers on the board vertically. Attach the vegetables in any order. Point to the numbers only and have the students chorally identify them. Then, go on with the vegetables. Teacher: Number 6 ! Students: potatoes. Teacher: How many potatoes ? Students: five tomatoes. Teacher: Let´s count! One, two, three, four , five potatoes. That´s right! Repeat with all the numbers. The cutouts can be transformed into puppets. Children can make their own puppets and decorate them in fancy materials, such as glitter, yarn. Puppets are thought to increase the attention span. Help children remember by reviewing words from other themes and using them with a new theme. Learners need different contexts to truly learn new vocabulary. I used shapes for the fruit and now colors .I printed puzzle pieces in 6 colors, and placed a vegetable in each one. Teacher: red. Students: carrot. Teacher: onions! Student: purple. Place the four cutouts on the table and place the potato first on the board. Teacher: I like potatoes. Then, place the tomato. Teacher: I like tomatoes. Do the same with the carrot. Place the onion below the other cutouts and say. Teacher: I don´t like onions. Use the like and don´t like face on the board to indicate like and don´t like. Students can come up front and place the cutouts next to the like and don´t like face as they want. If you downloaded the like and don´t like plates from my store for free, use them as well. Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Fruit-likes-plates-2357249 It can either be feed the pet or feed a family member using the cutouts. And make a crown with the cutouts. Have children color and cut all the vegetables. Tell them that they can make a soup or a salad for lunch. They choose which vegetables they will add and ones they don´t like. They can also add any other vegetable they wish and decorate their food using their creativity. When all the soups and salads are done, have them stand up and make a soup line and salad line. Count how many soups and how many salads are in class. Some students can come to the front and show their creation naming all the components. Use the flashcards to introduce the new vocabulary. Hold them up high enough for all the students to see them and have them repeat chorally each word. They work for drilling by flipping the cards at a fast pace as children name the words. As for practicing, place the flashcards in the class. Say a vocabulary word aloud and have students run to the flashcard, touch it and repeat the word. Paper bag puppets are fun and easy to make. It is great for reviewing body parts Preschool Vegetables Worksheets Many teachers try to stay away from worksheets and move to play based activities. I intend that with every worksheet that you can do more than completing teacher directed tasks. Worksheets can be turned into a dynamic activity where children can easily be engaged. Ws 1: I turned the worksheet into bookmarks. Ws 2: review the parts of face and the emotions. Then cut them and glue onto colored paper. Make a class mural. Ws 3: first color the pets as directed and then feed them. Discuss with the class what do these animals eat. Research that they almost can´t eat onions. Ws 4: It´s a sorting worksheet. Children color and cut all the fruit and vegetables. Then glue in the designated box. Please follow me and leave your comments!
This resource is included in the face unit for Elementary English Language Learners-Starters.Click here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Face-Unit-for-Elementary-English-Language-Learners-10106986 Games promote effective communication between peers by playing with meaningful and engaging materials. This is a 5-minute gap-filler for your lesson plan to develop linguistic competence. It is a Listening wrap up activity Let’s call it Hair Dictation. Hand in a copy of the people cards for the students to color as you dictate to them. Teacher: Look at Anna, she has short curly red hair. (Continue with the other people, students can also help out saying how people look for the classmates to color) Print a number template that can be used over and over again. Students will cut the people that they just colored. Describe which person will be in which number. Teacher: Number 6 is a person with short straight brown hair. Students will complete placing each person on each number. Here is a video to clear it up: This activity can be used to supplement the content of your course book. It is focused on the reinforcement of the vocabulary to describe eye and hair. Print the descriptive sentences cards for a group of students and a worksheet for each student. Have them prepare specific detail sentences to write on the worksheets and draw on the person template. Let your students be creative and then share their work with peers. Stuents will develop strog grammar skills. This game is wonderful to see if your students are understanding the adjectives to write the sentences. Take a look at the video on how to use the game: Playing constitutes the heart of children’s learning, and it prepares them for life. Playing with cards is also considered a teaching tool to improve concentration and develop fluency. These can be used as a memory game to match a facial feature to a word or a matching game to play on a table or the floor. I used this font from Creativa Fabrica. Here is the link. I am an affliate. https://www.creativefabrica.com/product/spring-is-in-the-air-25/ref/2670802/ A board game to review the new vocabulary in a fun way to increase socialization at the same time. Print one template for every 3 or 4 students. I made the markers by opening a clip and adding a sticker. There are 4 sets of colored cards. When a student lands on a colored space, he/she grabs that colored card and answers that question in order to move. For example. I landed on a blue space, I grab a blue card and read the question: What color is his hair? I answer: blond. Games promote a sense of achievement. Writing with these colorful letters. Use the pictures from the game below as a guide for writing the words. Children will work alone doing this to gain self-develpment. Or use a worksheet as a guide on how to write the words, Use this printable as a file folder game. Students will match the phrase to the picture. You can also do it as a cup game. Check the blog post where I have a similar game for Kindergarten. I glued the label to plastic cups and started the matching activity in a different fun way. LINK: https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/2020/09/face-theme-for-kindergarten-holistic_25.html Here is the video: Wrap it up with a Pocket Chart Activity. Buy or make this versatile tool to enhance the learning experience of the new language as students make sentences interacting with their peers. Students will make sentence to review the adjective word order. Check my other blog for Kindergarten English Language Learners. https://eflpreschoolteachers.blogspot.com/
