NAIDOC WEEK - be prepared for the groups that need supplies for projects! Measurements: approximately 6mm across and about 4mm thick, with a 1mm threading hole. Quantity per pack: 300 x 6mm Wood Beads Special Quality Note: We have popped a few extra in the bag of each colour in case there are a few broken. Painted wood beads like this can be so hard for us to source, and the quality can vary each time we get stock. The quality of the yellow beads, this time, is unfortunately not the best but that is all we can get and are not the bright yellow as in the photo. When you are using wood beads its often an earthy authentic look you are going for, so they should be ok, and definitely ok for the children's NAIDOC projects. These beads can be threaded on beading elastic, tigertail wire, crafting wire, fishing line, embroidery thread etc. If you use wax cotton, or similar, you would have to use a thin one. Bead Pack includes: 100 x Black beads + 100 x Red beads + 100 x Yellow Beads = 300 Beads (approximately). 300 beads will thread up to 1.2m so could make 7-8 17cm bracelets. Another special note: Wood beads, especially if painted, are notorious for having some blocked holes here and there. Please keep in mind, when choosing your string, that the holes may need clearing; wood can be a bit harder to thread than plastic beads which have more uniform holes. It is suggested that you make sure you have a strong, thin nail, knitting needle, awl or reamer on hand to clear the holes if necessary (this is a normal thing for wood beads). They are also easy for teachers & group coordinators to create projects with, especially relating to NAIDOC week and any other Aboriginal celebration or special occasion. Besides that, they are just a great tribal look mix of colours to have in your stash! Our bead packs are a great resource for teachers, caregivers, home school learners, pre-schools, free schooling, community groups, disability groups and so on. We have made the packs as economical as possible, and we take into account the size of the hole, the thickness of the threads, and the time constraints on teachers & organisers. Our bracelet kits are easy to thread and tie up, and are safe for children and adults alike to wear. Once NAIDOC week finishes, the piece they have made can be used as a regular jewellery item for everyday wear. Some of our packs are just for the beads in the appropriate colour scheme you choose, for you to make any project you have in mind. Others include everything you need to make a completed project, eg Bracelet or Lanyard. Once a year, Australia holds celebrations across the nation in the first week of July, to celebrate & recognise the history, culture & achievements of both Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander First Nation peoples. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures & histories, & participate in celebrations of the oldest continuous living cultures on earth. NAIDOC is different to Reconciliation Week, which is to heal past damages. NAIDOC meaning: An acronym for National Aborigines and Islands Day Observance Committee. Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First Peoples of Australia. Aboriginal peoples inhabited the whole of Australia, and Torres Strait Islander peoples lived in the islands between Australia and Papua New Guinea. Both have different flags. The Aboriginal Flag is divided horizontally into equal halves of black (top) and red (bottom), with a yellow circle in the centre. The black symbolises Aboriginal people. The yellow represents the sun, the constant re-newer of life. Red depicts the earth and peoples' relationship to the land. Our Aboriginal NAIDOC bead packs include the 3 colours of black, red & yellow (or gold according to stock available at the time). The Torres Strait Islander Flag has green panels at the top and bottom of the flag to represent the land and the central blue panel represents the sea. The black lines dividing the panels represent the Torres Strait Islander people. The centre of the flag shows a white dhari (dancer's headdress) which represents Torres Strait Islander culture. Our Torres Strait NAIDOC bead packs include 3 colours, which are green, blue & white. We have not included black in our packs however if you would like to include them, please email us. Phrase Meaning: This year's theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations. Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality, good intent and outcome. Get Up! It’s a call to action.
