Inspired by Boudica, Queen of the Iceni tribe, who led the Celtic people to revolt against the Roman occupation of Britain in the 1st Century. The mitts are started by knitting the cuff, then picking up sts along the length of the cuff to knit the remainder of the mitts in the round. You will need a cable needle and stitch holder, 3.25mm DPNs, 4mm DPNs and straight 4mm needles. One skein (209m) of Lavenham Blue yarn will knit either size - alternatively the mitts can be knitted in any yarn that knits to standard DK gauge. For more info about this design and Lavenham Blue yarn, read my blog here.

I wrote this pattern in early 2020 when everyone needed a hug, and this is a big shawl to give you a big hug whenever you need it. Somebody said that in knitting there are many traditions but no rules, and in this shawl, I’ve taken some traditional Estonian motifs and stitches, and used them in a non-traditional way, with both the shape of the shawl and the direction of knitting. The shawl is a crescent shape, and is knitted in one piece from the centre top down. The Estonian stitches include nupps and gathered stitches, and the motifs include a leaf pattern and Queen Sylvia’s Lace. The lace stitches are all on the right side, the wrong side is all purl, including purling to complete the nupps and gathered stitches. The shawl can be knit in anything from laceweight to 8ply yarn. Test knitters used both 4ply and laceweight yarn. There is also an option to add an extra layer of lace to enlarge the shawl if you want to and are using a lighter weight yarn. The blocked and relaxed piece as knitted in 8ply measured approximately 54cm deep with a total span of 220cm, but the final size will vary according to your own choice of yarn and needle, as well as your own knitting tension. Maschenprobe: 26 M x 27 R = 10 x 10 cm in „stranded“ knitting, zweifarbigem Stricken.
Wet Splice (aka Spit Splice) is a simple alternative to weaving in ends when you're knitting. No spitting required!
The lattice cable-and-eyelet motif featured on this asymmetrical shawl is combined with a simple 2x2 rib, and the results are stunning. We love this piece in pale Jupiter, but can see it in creamy Cygnus, dramatic Mars, or steel-blue Mercury. Euclid strikes a gorgeous balance between softness and structure.

The Aegis Cowl is a charming cable-y addition to the cowl repertoire. It is a quick, super wearable garment topper featuring an intensely cabled front section ornamented with beads that are strung onto the yarn before you cast on. The pattern includes instructions for matching cuffs. "Aegis" refers to an ancient protective shield that was worn by Athena, among others. In ancient Greece, it is often depicted as bearing a serpent-haired image. I think cables might represent a slightly more civilized version. I hope wearing your Aegis will empower you! Cuffs require an additional 130 yards above stated yardage.

The instructions provided in this pattern will enable you to make this lovely hand-knitted lace evening wrap. The pattern is designed for lace weight yarn (s2/28) and uses traditional Shetland Lace motifs. The design is a modified version of a pattern by Carol Rasmussen Noble. The pattern is featured on the cover of “Knits from the North Sea – Lace in the Shetland Tradition” by Carol Rasmussen Noble, Margaret Leask Peterson. This stole uses a traditional stitch pattern named after one of Queen Victoria’s daughters. Carol finished her stole by adding the Queen’s edge border, my version has the Alice Maud motif from edge to edge and on the bottom and top borders. The finished measurements are 73 cm by 200 cm when blocked and weighs approx. 123 grams.

This top-down crescent shaped shawl combines Estonian lace stitches with intertwining cables to produce an eye-catching shawl a little different from the rest. Intertwining cables and eyelets depict butterflies, while nupp flowers interspersed through the twisting cable motif reflect a pretty garden cascading over a trellis. A picot bind off adds a dramatic flourish at the bottom edge – the perfect end to this beautiful accessory. No row is repeated, so you are never bored and the edges grow dramatically due to the extra increases. The Southern Blue is a species of New Zealand butterfly common to the Canterbury region, and it sports a similar blue-grey colour scheme to this beautiful shawl. Knit in Zealana Kiwi Fingering, it gives a little more substance than a laceweight shawl, but fortunately Zealana produce this lovely blue-grey colour in Kiwi Laceweight as well, should you wish to knit something more ethereal in appearance.

Miss Bennett wrap is a beautiful romantic piece of crescent shape finished with wide lace border. It is knitted in Shalimar Yarns Breathless sock weight yarn which gives it beautiful drape, sheen and wonderful softness. It can be knitted to any size depending on wearers requirements.
