The Mail on Sunday's Liz Gill went on a family break to Christchurch. She stayed at the Captain's Club Hotel and enjoyed a visit to the clifftop Highcliffe Castle.

Dorset is a county in southwest England. It’s known for the Jurassic Coast, a long stretch on the English Channel where the cliffs contain many fossils, and rock formations show millions of years of geological history. Two prominent natural landmarks are Durdle Door, an ancient stone arch, and the layered cliffs at nearby Lulworth Cove. The towns of Poole, Weymouth and Swanage are popular for their sandy beaches. Our County maps are 1:100,000 scale and includes town names, villages, major and minor roads, motorways, rivers, lakes, forests and more. Perfect for businesses, home office, travel and route planning, our County maps are a useful resource. Laminated option: Printed onto high quality paper and finished with a gloss laminate.

Taken from the Bournemouth Tourism Guide 1965. Looking towards Bournemouth Pier from the west. The Tollard Royal Hotel [ now Tollard Court ] in West Hill Rd, and the Highcliffe Hotel [ now the Highcliff Hotel ] in St Michaels Rd are visible top left. In the distance the tower block is Albany on East Overcliff Drive that was built in the mid 1960s and has it's main entrance in Manor Rd. This is one of the 'Welcome to Bournemouth' road signs that used to stand at the main routes into town.
