Pillow #4 --- the unPillow. Aargh! I hate that this does not look right when I put a pillow form inside. The details can be seen here: freezeframe03.blogspot.com/2012/04/altered-dresden-unpill... Another little project to add to my Collection Challenge here: www.flickr.com/photos/30867529@N03/sets/72157626839914519/ and I still seem to have tons of this fat eighth left! Who knew it could go so far...or at least seem to. (a bit droopy looking because I just removed the pillow form)

New Business Cards!, originally uploaded by jenib320. I am taking a Graphic Design class this semester at school and I was so happy when I found out our first project was to design a logo. Then, our second project was to design a business card! Bingo! Perfect opportunity to design some business cards for myself. This has been on my to-do list for a loooong time! I finally ordered some last week and they arrived today! I'm super happy with how they turned out! I would have loved to order matte ones, but who can afford it? :) Mini, originally uploaded by jenib320. I felt the urge to work on something quick and fun a few nights ago, so I started this little mini quilt. Jessica was working with these gorgeous Pat Bravo Pure Elements solids* this past weekend. She happened to throw out quite a few scraps (you know, those ones that most normal people throw out, but I save!). I dug through them and found 5 small rectangles of each of the colors she used. In her defense I think the biggest scrap was 1.25" by 3.5"? Some were as small as .75"x3.25". I have a problem with scraps! I finished it off with Heath by Alexander Henry, a new favorite, and this dark gray JoAnns print, an old favorite. I was finally able to play around with fun organic quilting lines and I have to say, despite how time consuming it is, I love the result! This little mini quilt is destined for my side table! By the way, the hand of these fabrics is AMAZING! They feel really similar in quality to Heather Ross fabrics (Mendocino, West Hill, etc)! Sneak Peek, originally uploaded by jenib320. Sneak Peak for Mug Rug Maddness, happening soon on Erin's blog, Two More Seconds! Henna!, originally uploaded by jenib320. Finally finished up my Henna Garden* collection! Thank you to everyone who swapped with me! :) My Milk Toof!!, originally uploaded by jenib320. It's finally here! I ordered the book My Milk Toof: The Adventures of Ickle and Lardee*. I was so excited to find out this was shipping earlier than expected. If you have no idea what My Milk Toof is, go over to the blog immediately! You won't regret it! :) The book is super cute, by the way! George, originally uploaded by jenib320. Today I love the.. Smell of: Fresh air! A couple of weeks ago I shared a link to a pixelated heart project - and now I've finally made my own! You can find the original tutorial here on the Sew Mama Sew blog. But since mine is a little different from the original tutorial I thought I'd show you how I made mine. First of all, I didn't have any of that nifty pre-printed grid interfacing. If you have it, that's great. If not, it is easy to make your own! I used the lightest weight fusible interfacing that I had. Decide how big you want to cut your squares (mine were 1.5"). Lay the interfacing over your cutting mat and using the lines on your mat and a ruler, just trace the grid. You'll want to trace onto the smooth (non-fusible) side! I used any ol' pen I had laying around. If you want to make a different sized mini, here's the math for you! Now that you have figured out what size to make, and how many fabric squares you'll need, time to start cutting! Cut the fabric squares the SAME SIZE as the grid you traced onto the interfacing. I went with a blue/green/aqua combo so it could stay on my wall all year 'round. You'll need the most of the low-volume (or background) squares. I did end up removing the outer row of background squares so I only needed 50. And I tried to use each print only once, but I think a couple of duplicates slipped in there. Use the diagram above to lay out your fabric squares in the shape of a heart. Now just follow the original tutorial (here) to fuse everything down and then to sew your rows and columns together! I quilted mine with some simple straight lines- nice and fast! My new pixelated heart is up on my mini wall! And my collection is growing - slowly. What mini should I make next? Do you have a favorite?
This field rose will sit on my sewing desk all year round. Having a field rose on my sewing table all year round was just too much temptation. So I combined this week’s Patchsmith's Sampler sew-along block ...... Block 8 - Field Rose ....... with the simple Column Sidebar from my OneBlock Mug Rugs pattern book ..... The column sidebar can be dotted with holly leaves or small flowers Then I added a little bit of quilt detailing to the field rose .... I love using stripey binding. and voila ..... Field Rose Mug Rug If you fancy turning any of the blocks from the sew-along into a functional mini quilt/mug rug then look no further than my One Block Mug Rugs pattern book. It contains ten sidebars you can add to a 6" quilt block to create a fun mug rug. Available in PDF format for immediate download The One Block Mug Rugs pattern book is also available in paperback format via Amazon. Come back next week when I hope to use two different blocks from the book to create a fun Bullseye mug rug. Until then .......
When the pastures are green in the springtime And the birds are singing their sonnets, You may look to the hills and the valleys And they're covered with lovely Bluebonnets. Blue is the emblem of loyalty, They're as blue as the deep, deep sea, Their smiling faces bring gladness, For they bloom
This round up is filled with mini quilt inspiration. Each of the free patterns is perfect for a quick afternoon project or to share with a swap buddy.
As many of you enjoy a little kissing under the mistletoe this season you will be needing somewhere to rest your frothy hot chocolate. Look no further than the Mistletoe Mug Rug And for a quick, handmade gift just add some Patchsmith mistletoe to a 5" square of fabric to create a snazzy seasonal coaster. The Mistletoe Mug Rug is one of ten season patterns you will find in the Patchsmith's Christmas Mug Rugs pattern book - available for immediate download from my Craftsy Store or from my Etsy Store or in paperback via Amazon.
2010 haunted me today....well, not in a bad sense, actually in a great sense! Let me tell you a story. Last year, after the doll swap was over in about March or April and I had nothing else pressing to do, I decided to try my hand at art quilts. Now, usually those are rather small, stiff so they can be hung or framed, and tend to contain hand embroidery of some sort. I ordered a bunch of Kona solids and went to town and finished some in this order: Did you notice all those curved pieces in there and all the french knots? I'm surprised I still had skin on my fingers after all those knots since I hate thimbles. LOL Well, anyway, on with the story. There was one more block that I never finished. I pieced it and I loved it, but it was too big and I was a "chicken" to cut it apart 'cause I really liked its look so I hid it under my template rulers. Well, today when I was searching for my 2 1/2 inch template square I ran across it and "wa-la", the light bulb went off immediately and I got to work! I was in my glory!!! Check out what I did: Isn't he cute????? I adore him! I had a time of it with the bird though. I think I made three in all different colors, but when I made one in black, I knew it was right. Here's a close-up: Sorry about twisting your neck there!! I try to be artsy-fartsy, you know! So now, my original art quilt is now a doll quilt and measures 15 x 18 inches. Perfect! Too bad it's not exactly my partners tastes though. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to make some more...................I'm sure I'll find one that'll be just right for her!

Inspired again by Syko (check out the bird). I made this for my living room. I love snowmen, and couldn't wait to do a quilted one (or four). Thanks to all who share their inspiration on Flickr!

Block 48 - Love Focus Great timing – this month is the month of love and this week’s block is all about love. Using quick-fuse applique you have the option of adding the universal symbol for love – a heart – to this week’s patchwork block. Or you could choose a specific fabric that you love and make that the focus of your block. Fussy Cut the middle using a much loved fabric for a simpler version Whichever you choose – this week’s block is quick and easy and is a great block to repeat throughout a quilt. Or you could combine it with one of the ten sidebars from my One Block Mug Rugs pattern book: Heart Sidebar - a great addition to any 6" block from The Patchsmith's One Block Mug Rugs book With only two blocks left in the sew-along I am thinking I might start a new series entitled “A Patched Mind” once the sew-along finishes. “A Patched Mind” will focus on sewing as a means of keeping well mentally and soulfully. It will be a very relaxed affair with a monthly blog posting sharing links and ideas about how patching and sewing can help us cope with everyday issues (i.e. time, compassion, friendship, etc). What do you think? Let me know in the comments below or by emailing me. Block 49 - Tea-time Come back next week when we will be sharing a cuppa together in The Patchsmith’s Sampler sew-along. In the meantime I look forward to seeing the focus of your love this week over on Instagram (#block48lovefocus) or in the Flickr group.
My entry into the Ellison Lane Mini Quilt Challenge. There is a tutorial and PDF of the 3D flying geese technique on my blog . Try it - the block has only one seam - you will love it.
