The long-awaited sequel to Supercade: A Visual History of the Videogame Age 1971-1984, the first book to illustrate the videogame phenomenon... In the years since the original Supercade was first published, the next generation of gamers have come of age. Raised in the aftermath of the crash - the grand arcade palaces of the early 80s replaced by battered Neo Geo cabinets in laundromats and the few remaining game parlors begging for play - they are the children of the Nintendo Entertainment System, the home console that saved the US game industry after Atari effectively destroyed it. Over the past two decades they have expressed an intense love for the games of their youth including Super Mario, Space Harrier, and Street Fighter. This volume chronicles the next era of gaming history, beginning with the NES and including the release of the Sega Master System, SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, Amiga, Game Boy, Atari Jaguar, PlayStation, Dreamcast, Xbox and more, as well as the companies, creators, and technologies that drove us into the digital future. Earnestly written and designed by author and game historian Van Burnham, the second book is even more comprehensive than the first - featuring over 500 full-color pages - plus interviews with legendary game developers like Eugene Jarvis, John Romero, and Tim Schafer, as well as premium print upgrades including metallic inks, gatefold inserts, and so much more. Supercade was conceived to pay tribute to the technology, games, and visionaries who created one of the most influential mediums in the history of entertainment - one that profoundly shaped the modern technological landscape, and inspired generations of gamers. Contributors include Nathan Altice, Max Blackley, Ian Bogost, Chris Charla, Brian Crecente, Gabe Durham, Benj Edwards, Scott Fontana, Paul Ford, Darren Gladstone, Raiford Guins, Blake J Harris, Robin Hunicke, Roland Ingram, Alex Kane, Chris Kohler, Tim Lapetino, Kelsey Lewin, Henry Lowood, Chris Melissinos, Mike Mika, Jess Morrissette, Chris Moyse, Laine Nooney, Jeremy Parish, Chris Priestman, Chris Schilling, Brandon Sheffield, Dean Takahashi, Tony Temple, Tom Vanderbilt, Brittany Vincent, John Wills, and Erik Wolpaw.
Book Synopsis Frank Bello, bassist with the legendary New York thrash metal band Anthrax since 1984, has sold over ten million albums, travelled the globe more times than he cares to count, and enthralled audiences from the world's biggest stages. His long-awaited memoir would be a gripping read even if its pages only contained stories about his life as a recording and touring musician. While those stories are indeed included--and will blow your mind--Bello also focuses on deeper subjects in Fathers, Brothers, and Sons. Once you've heard his life story, you'll understand why. Born into a family of five, Frank grew up in difficult circumstances. His father abandoned his wife and children, and Frank's mother moved heaven and earth to keep them fed and educated. Left with no male role model, Frank found inspiration in heavy metal bass players, following their example and forging a career with Anthrax from his early teens--first as a roadie, and then as the group's bass player. International stardom came Frank's way by the mid-to-late 1980s, when he was still in his early twenties, but tragedy struck in 1996 when his brother Anthony was murdered in New York. Although the case went to trial, the suspected killer was released without charge after a witness, intimidated by violent elements, withdrew his testimony. Two decades later, Frank is a father himself to a young son. Like many men who grew up without the guidance of a dad, he asks himself important questions about the meaning of fatherhood and how to do the job well. This is the wisdom which Fathers, Brothers, and Sons offers readers. Despite the emotive nature of these topics, Fathers, Brothers, and Sons is a funny, entertaining read. A man with a keen sense of humor and the perspective to know how surreal his story has been, Frank doesn't preach or seek sympathy in his book. Instead, he simply passes on the wisdom gained from a lifetime of turbulence, paying tribute to his loved ones in a way that will resonate with us all. Review Quotes "Frank has been a close friend for 35 years. From dealing with being abandoned by his father, to the tragedy of his brothers murder, to the rise of Anthrax, it's all here in Frankie's unmistakable, sincere, and at times humorous voice. I am so proud of him for telling his long overdue life story in such a candid and honest way." --Eddie Trunk, SiriusXM Radio About the Author Frank Bello is an American musician, most notable as bassist for the legendary thrash metal band Anthrax. On hiatus from Anthrax, he briefly performed with Helmut, but he has appeared on every Anthrax release since 1985. He lives in New York. Joel McIver is the bestselling author of Justice for All: The Truth About Metallica, which has been translated into nine languages, and several other books. He has written for Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, and he is the occasional guest on BBC. Classic Rock magazine has called him "by some distance Britain's most prolific hard rock/metal author." He wrote the official biography of the world's biggest death metal band, Cannibal Corpse and co-wrote Megadeth's bio from bass player David Ellefson.

Sarah Clayton's Six Comforts snowglobe is one of our first limited edition art collaboration available. Made for our launch party and exhibit. Sarah painted and adapted a small plain cardboard house, and turned it into something amazing, which was then 3D scanned and printed in miniature. The original was sold at silent auction during the launch event, and 25 limited edition 4" globes are now available. Statement from the artist: "The Six Comforts of Home is part of the work artist Sarah Clayton does in engagement with her work as archivist for the late Christopher Gustave, an itinerant but some ten years resident of St Louis, whose Six Comforts print designs, concept album installation at Mad Art back in the early 2000’s had a lasting effect on the St Louis Art Community. Using the home as a metaphor for the world, Clayton proposes that everything we need in the world can be boiled down to six categories: FOOD, SLEEP, WORK, LOVE, SELF and HOME, and she imagines that this House is the ideal house for all, one that provides these necessities. Clayton also recently purchased a home here in St Louis, (following Gustave’s advice that artists SHOULD move to ST Louis) and being intensely inspired by a property that could be publishing house, community event space, work space as well as a regular old place to sleep safely and raise children. She continues to be consumed with rehabbing the property (her home was used for one of Snow Day's first test snowglobes!) and hopes to be ready to open the gates in the near future, especially in time for the long-awaited Six Comforts Book Release." FYI we're past the window for holiday delivery - if you'd like to purchase a gift certificate, we're delivering those up to 12/22!
