Just taking a few minutes to touch base with my blog. I appreciate the email messages I get from you and the feedback to the posts. Right now, I am so busy in the studio but feeling grateful for the work. I am about to launch into my busy travel schedule and booking in to 2020 and 2021 at the moment! I am working hard as wellon a new workshop release in drawing, painting and gilding Acanthus ornamental designs. It should be fun! I always find it quite enlightening to try and figure out how to put my process into words. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds. I learn so much in the process of creating the classes and I love to dive into study and research. I also had the tremendous pleasure to work on a special anniversary Enchanted Letter commission for someone that I met through the blog! It was a pure delight to work on this project. This piece will be incorporated into a lace wreath for her anniversary celebration. The artwork pictured at the top is the original design and the two others are prints of the original. The prints and the orignals are all gilded with 23K gold leaf as well as touches of Shell Gold. Of course, I had to add Swarovski crystals! It is such a tremendous honour to work on pieces for special celebrations. I have so much fun, this never feels like work to me! Happy February everyone!

Ahhhh....Embellishments!! They are probably my favorite thing to cut in vinyl. I LOVE embellishments. I think because they are so versatile. You can use them alone and they are beautiful. La frase elegida para este año ha sido de Agustín de Hipona (San Agustín, obispo de Hipona, 354-430): AMA ET QUOD VIS FAC, cuya traducción sería: “Ama y haz lo que quieras”. La frase completa era: Ama y haz lo que quieras. Si callas, callarás con amor; si gritas, gritarás con amor; si corriges, corregirás con amor; si perdonas, perdonarás con amor. Si tienes el amor arraigado en ti, ninguna otra cosa sino amor serán tus frutos. Me pareció perfecta para expresar lo que deseaba en estas navidades. Siguiendo la costumbre, he utilizado el rojo y el verde, colores asociados al acebo (Ilex acquifolium), planta tradicional navideña. En la fecha, al final, he decidido “pasarme” un poco, en vista de cómo se van perdiendo referencias y cada vez vulgarizamos más el lenguaje. En vez de “solsticio de invierno” he utilizado “solsticio hiemal” —curiosamente, las palabras estío, o estival, relacionadas con el verano, sí se usan, pero hiemal, para invierno, es bastante desconocida— y he anotado la fecha del día en números ordinales. Ganas de distraerme. Y, siguiendo con las ganas de probar, antes de colocar la decoración a base de frutos de acebo, realicé algunas instantáneas colocando sobre los espacios vacíos del manuscrito diferentes elementos que había en casa, como unas bases para velas o algunas hojas secas prensadas. Finalmente nos decimos por la decorada con los citados frutos pintados, pero muestro las otras para que se vean los diferentes resultados. La idea de combinar flor seca con caligrafía, que había usado hace ya bastantes años, vuelve a parecerme atractiva. El tiempo dirá qué hacer con la idea. Ferdinandus, d.s.
