Hello Everyone and Welcome Today over at A Vintage Journey its 'Tag Friday!' I'm sure many of you are already familiar with this tradition but for those of you who aren't let me explain. When there are 5 Fridays in a month, the 5th Friday sees some of the AVJ Creative Guides create and post a tag created in their style. So here I am today sharing my 'Tag Friday' tag with you all. I decided to take this opportunity to have a real good play with my Tim Holtz Distress crayons! Apart from some Gesso and a little Texture paste the crayons did the rest. Taking a #8 tag I applied a coat of black Gesso and let dry. I used Gesso, rather than acrylic paint as I wanted that 'dry matt' look and feel that it gives. I then picked up small amounts of white gesso and applied it using a dry flat head paintbrush by just catching the top of the black gessoed surface to give like a 'scratchy' appearance. Out came the crayons to add colour. Again I used them by just catching the surface of the tag, aswell as drawing some 'full' lines of colour randomly and smudging them out with my fingers. I continued like this until I was happy and I had great fun just going with the flow! I kept the detail simple - texture paste stencilling and stamping -though the stamping isn't that clear to see but I kind of like that. My focal image is the beautiful cone head flower from Tim Holtz 'Garden Flower' stamp set stamped using black Archival ink onto watercolour card stock and painted using the distress crayons as a watercolour paint. That's the versitility of this product -the crayons can give really bold , vibrant intense colour when used 'neat', water them down and they give a much more subtle hue. Using them with a paint brush enables you to 'work inside the lines' too with more precision. I distressed the watercolour card stock panel with Distress Crayons smudging it into the panel . I love how the crayons pick up the texture of the cardstock . I used a width of lace, a few gem dots, a silver eyelet and an Ideology NO.3 File tab to finish off my tag . I enjoyed creating with my Distress Crayons and I can see this being the start of a wonderful friendship between us! Be sure to stop by A Vintage Journey blog if you haven't done already and see all the other fabulous tags some of my fellow Creative Guides have created . I woiuld like to enter my tag into the following challenges: Thats Crafty- Go Figure Challenge April 29th 2016. Thank you for taking the time to pop by today and for all the lovely comments you leave - both are appreciated greatly . Enjoy your weekend take care Amanda xxx

Guess who is sat waiting to start class? Before I share some more Stitches photographs with you I wanted to show you what we made in Tim's class on Saturday. He always creates a great project for us to make and is a great teacher, very relaxed and helpful. Enough of the waffle Erika and show us what you made!! And a close up; And more; I don't know what you think but I loved the class and I love the project....am I biased?! LOL. Of course but I'm sure you'll agree. How about a few more pictures from the show too? As we are talking Tim Holtz products lets have a look...... Wouldn't you just love to play with all of these? In particular I loved these; And how about this for a configuration tray; And finally one for the scrapbook...... I look like a startled bunny and hate having my photo taken but it's got to be done. I had a great day and would like to thank Tim, Mario and all the staff from Ranger and PI for a fun and educational event. More tomorrow!

Happy Monday, dear Readers! I have been fascinated with steampunk style for... well... forever. :) You can imagine how excited I was to see Linda's latest creation which is such a Steampunk Extravaganza! Linda went totally crazy using all my Mechanicals bits and pieces and creating art magic with Art Alchemy paints and many more. Just look ~ Admire & Feel inspired! Hi everyone, Linda Cain here, with a really loaded Steampunk Box using old and new Mechanicals from Finnabair. You’ll be amazed at the authentic look and quality of these new pieces. But many of these pieces I used here are the previously released Mechanicals, so get out your stash and get ready to play. I know you’ll enjoy the endless possibilities that you’ll find. This is a picture of the new paints and a few of the Mechanicals I used. I started with a plain wooden box that I painted with Heavy Black Gesso and the new 1” Silicone Brush… it was even better than I’d expected. It puts on a really smooth, thin, even layer of paint with no brush marks. They’re very cool. Then I started gluing down my Mechanicals and found objects with Heavy Body Gel. It dries extremely fast and strong. I wanted the larger, heavier pieces on the left. I wanted the smaller pieces to taper off to the right. Here you see a Grungy Butterfly, Tin Heart, mini Barn Star and Rustic Washer. The new Pocket Watches have a removable back that makes it really easy to create your little montage inside, and then replace the back with 2 little screws. I painted the black heart on the back plate and then I used Royal Red Metallique Art Alchemy paint to add a red heart over it. I added a coat of Clear Gesso over most, but not all of the elements. This will allow the paints to stick to the metal pieces. Here you see how I began adding Metallique and Opal Magic Paints (links below!) to the background and metal. It’s just the first of many layers of color. The Royal Red heart shows up beautifully against the gold heart. On top is the smaller adorable Tin Heart. This is the finished middle section of the box with Micro Beads, Glass Glitter and tiny watch parts added as filler using Soft Gloss Gel. More paints and some metallic waxes are the last step. I wanted this side to have the larger pieces covering more of the area. The heavy silver Mechanicals were painted with the lots of Metallique paints. The Medium Flower is darker to create contrast. Opal Magics on Black Gesso create a more muted background to make them stand out. And on the right, you see the gorgeousness of the paints on the background as well as on the metal. The Tin Heart with a Mini Star really steals the show here, but the Grungy Butterfly holds its own as well. After a few days of reflection, I decided to add some legs and typewriter letters to the front of the box. The German Dresden is painted with Steampunk Copper paint and then Black Gesso. I was thrilled when I found the letters STEAMPUNK in my stash. Life is good. I hope you’ve enjoyed what I created with different kinds of new products from Finnabair. You will not be disappointed with them. I know I wasn’t. So get out your stash of ephemera, and get started making your own Work of Art. Be inspired to just play. Linda Products used:

Hi Everyone, Very happy to share with you today a tag which has been created for the Flying Unicorn Creation Team. This tag has been created using Silks Paints, Flying Unicorn Adornments and Prima Butterfly Wings. Hope you like it, if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Wishing you a very happy and creative day. Rebecca
It's been a long time since I've created a tag. Tags were always something I would love creating when I wanted to play with new product, but I just seem to be short on time lately. I enjoyed creating a card using just paints and the Tim Holtz Birch Trees die a while back here, so I decided to make a tag using this same method. On my tag I used the new Sizzix Tim Holtz Detailed Butterfly Thinlits set and Mixed Media #2 Thinlits set. I first cut out my Tim Holtz tag twice, using Ranger's Mixed Media Cardstock. On one of my tags, I die cut the Mixed Media #2 die (blossoms) in the bottom of the tag. The butterflies were also cut out from Mixed Media Cardstock. There are two pieces for each butterfly, one is a plain die, the other a detailed butterfly. Once these were cut out, I adhered the two tags together and the butterflies together. The plain cuts are on the bottom. The butterflies were then adhered to my tag. Before painting my tag, I applied a thin coat Ranger's Dina Wakley Black Gesso over the entire tag. If you want a lighter look to your tag, apply a white gesso. This primes your surface before applying your paints. Now you can start applying your colours. I dry brush (removing most of your paint that is on your brush onto a paper towel before applying) my colours one at a time, usually the darkest colour first. You need very little paint on your brush, in fact it looks like there isn't any on there at all after removing it on a paper towel. It's always easy to apply more than removing. You can always go back and apply the same colour again, if you want more. When dry brushing, it picks up the subtle texture from your brush strokes when you applied your gesso. Keep this in mind when brushing on the gesso, I like to apply in all different directions. The edges of the butterflies can be lighter or more vibrant to highlight them. the paint colours I used were; Tim Holtz Distress Ground Espresso, Fired Brick, Evergreen Bough and Ripe Persimmon. To finish off my tag, I applied Salmon Alcohol ink to a Tim Holtz Gumdrop embellishment and then adhered it inside a Charmed findings (TH93266). They fit perfectly inside these new charms! I also painted and then wiped off, so the paint remains in the recessed areas, a Tim Holtz Philosophy Charm (TH92678). The charms are attached with a Tim Holtz Loop Pin (TH93200). My go-to ribbon, is seam binding dyed with Evergreen Bough and Ripe Persimmon Distress sprays. Here's another look at my tag! Thanks for stopping by, Jan
