The colours of its bands range from white to almost every colour except shades such as purple and blue. Commonly specimens of onyx available contain bands of colours of white tan and brown. Pure black onyx is the most famous variety and has a long history of use for hardstone carving and jewellery. Tumblestones or 'tumbled stones' as they are also referred to are made by 'tumbling' rough crystals, minerals or rocks in grit for a number of days in a tumbler machine. Different grades of grit are used in the process until the rough edges are smoothed, then polish is added to bring a soft shiny surface to the specimen. Because of this process each stone will be unique in shape and colour. ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. These four pieces of Scottish agate crystals we have for sale are a rough, unpolished lot. The 4 pieces are one lot and if it is successful I have about a hundred lots to go out. The agates I picked out are all banded in some variation. There is a good mix of quartz crystal, chalcedony crystal, and probably other sedimentary minerals which oozed in to bubbles left in the lava over time. Scottish agates are collectors items due to the patterns and scenic pictures they have. Some you can't see until they are polished, but these four have noticeable patterns before the tumble ... Which means they will be epic! These are Ayrshire agates.
