Now the official museum of the German Armed Forces, the Dresden Museum of Military History has assumed varying and contradictory identities across its history. The building began its life as an armory, before becoming the Saxon Army Museum, followed by a stint as a Nazi military museum, then a Soviet and East German Museum. How can a military landscape become an interesting experience for visitors? The plan by H+N+S embraces all distinctive existing characteristics: openness and scale, roughness, debris, bomb craters, machines and so forth. The previous use evidently made a mark on the topography and H+N+S introduced human scale features by following the rules of uniformness and clarity. This blend contributed to the feeling of emergency that is simulated in the military exercises that are being carried out for the sake of the visitors.

A handmade military beret inspired by the headgears of the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade. The Brigade was under the command of general Stanisław Sosabowski. Its crown is made of soft wool cloth, it also has a quilted lining made of cotton and a sweatband made of natural leather. Because of used materials it is very sturdy, comfortable and breathable.
