Birthday Biryani ♥️✨. Mika Singh, Pritam · Aaj Ki Party
MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski dinged former President Barack Obama's star-studded 60th birthday party as “unbecoming” and a “terrible message” for Democrats on Monday.
Pin It Now! Explore! Rescue! Protect! Octonauts! How To Create Your Own Octonauts Themed Party It's been a while since I've posted anything on the blog, so this is a bit of a flashback. Well worth it, nonetheless! We did an Octonauts theme for my son's 4th birthday celebration. For those of you who don't yet know the Octonauts, they are creature guardians of the seas- a fairly new addition to the Disney channel & Disney Junior channel. In researching party ideas, I found quite the lack of anything Octonauts available in the U.S. and found many other mommies voicing the same disappointment online. I took this as a challenge to get creative! I was able to find a few choices on Etsy for party invitations, but nothing was quite what I had in mind. So I used a template for a party invitation in Word, added my info, & copied and pasted an Octonauts image I found online into the pre-made template. Printed, stamped and mailed. I really do enjoy the old snail mail method for party invitations. Besides, who doesn't feel extra special to receive a fun party invitation in the mail? Also on Etsy, I was able to connect with Julie at CakesAndKids who does amazing & adorable work with fondant! I approached her about doing some "Octonauts Inspired" cupcake toppers & boy, did she deliver! I would encourage you to take a peek at her shop on Esty CakesAndKids, as she really does have something for any type of party one could imagine, and she was lovely to work with. For more Cupcake toppers, I found some more Octonauts images online, copied & pasted into a word document, printed them out on cardstock, cut them out & taped them to striped paper straws. The straws were also ordered from an Esty shop and were fairly inexpensive. The food was a special creative challenge and treat! I did quite a bit of surfing online and found some great inspiration for underwater themed parties. First, I made some heart-stealing & adorable Oyster Cookies. I used store-bought shortbread cookies, pink frosting inside, yogurt raisins for the "pearl", and ready-made eyes in the cake decorating aisle. Also, I made a trio of bell pepper octopus on plates of dip, with black olives for eyes. Another snack was a stalk of celery, dipped in peanut butter to "fish" for goldfish crackers on a plate. The most substantial snack we offered was "mini-sub" sandwiches. To make these I made simple sandwiches (with deli meat and sliced cheese) on hot dog buns, bendy straws for the "periscope", and cheese cubes on toothpicks inserted along the sides to look like portholes. Since Octonauts party decorations are non-existent, I printed some coloring pages that I found online and strung them together with ribbon to make a banner. Also, we hung some green paper streamers to look a little like kelp. Below are the coloring pages I used:

I can't think of a better way to start the week than with Tova's third birthday party. See, Tova's mom is the incredibly talented and oh so lovely Kallie Brynn and this is the third
The invitation by moi (customphotocards.blogspot.com) Red paper lanterns I made from red poster board. I found a tutorial on youtube on how to make them. It was really simple and turned out so cute! I learned how to make Shuriken paper stars (another tutorial from youtube). I folded so many of these babies, I don’t think my hands will ever forget how to make them! Ninja cake made by Terry Zenz (Terrycakes here in town). I loved how it turned out! Just how I pictured it in my head. Some of the food ideas I found online (rice krispie sushi, nunchucks and oreo ninja cupcakes). So fun!! This Ninja cupcake idea I found on Pinterest was so easy and turned out super cute. You just take half an oreo, take off the frosting from the top and bottom of the cookie, add chocolate sprinkles for the eyes and viola you have a ninja!! I made this banner using a free font called Karate. I loved how it looked on the wall. The paper lanterns on the table were another fun craft I made. Again, super easy to do, I just goggled Chinese lanterns and found a tutorial on how to make them. They were fun to have to decorate all around the house the day of the party. Cake made by Terry Zenz (Terrycakes). Would you believe I found these awesome foam Ninja swords from Amazon?! I was so excited! I just added a little tag to them and gave them as favors for the party guests. Personalized Ninja headbands. I just printed out their names on my computer using the font Last Ninja. Then I traced their names onto the white fabric strips using a fine tip black sharpie. I had the guests find their Ninja name on this paper when they first came in. So fun! We were cracking up at some of the names. The kids loved finding out what their Ninja name was. Another activity we did when the kids first came in was decorate their own paper Ninja stars. Then later on we had them use those stars for this throwing practice game. They had to try and knock down as many balls as they could with their paper ninja star. I found this idea from here. This was a hit. Another game we had them do was to try and find the red Ninja lego guy in a bowl of rice using only chopsticks. Everyone loved this one. Another game we did was throwing rubber ninja stars onto this huge target board. I found these Shuriken stars on Amazon. They puncture a foam board like this one but don’t hurt anyone or anything. The kids thought these were pretty awesome! Especially when someone could get it to stick in the board. I found this idea from here. Ninja obstacle course I had set-up outside. It wasn’t too fancy but the kids really loved it. Our family (can you tell Brooks’ is thrilled to be in this picture?! LOL) Cute kids Party guests! Birthday boy! Brooks sneaking in and blowing out the candle before Dalton had a chance to! Little brothers!! Ha ha. Dalton’s buddies from his Kindergarten class. They called themselves the Three Amigos. Too cute. Present time!! Buddies!! The Birthday haul!Dalton had such a fun Birthday party! His friends & cousins were all so cute together. Everyone had a blast. All the smiles, fun and laughter made all the work totally worth it! We love you Buddy! Happy Birthday Dalton!!
