This summer I had two good friends move into new homes! A new home means a house tour (love those!) and bringing a housewarming gift. I love giving housewarming gifts. The gifting possibilities are endless! I really try not to give people gifts that will add more clutter to their homes, instead I like to give gifts they can use. One of my friends has significantly downsized from a big family home to a new, small condo. The last thing they need is more stuff! Big, fluffy wash cloths and my favorite hand soap work perfectly. You know that I LOVE to give hand soap! See here, here, here and here! Now my friend can replace her old washcloths with new, thick, thirsty ones. Perfect for her sparkling, brand new bathroom! I printed out a Home Sweet Home tag and tied it all together. (Scroll down for printable link.) My other friend has moved into a big home filled with lots of new wood floors and tons of carpet! This time I chose the cutest floral broom and our favorite carpet cleaner, Folex! That stuff really works! Both of these gifts were tied up with a Home Sweet Home tag and hand delivered, of course. Oh, friends-- may your homes be filled with lots of sweet memories and blessings! (I've included these affiliate links to help you locate products.) Click here to print your own Home Sweet Home tags. I print in landscape mode on cardstock. Here's another housewarming gift idea for you: Summer Housewarming Gift Linking up to: LinkPartyTuesday, TimeToSparkle, ShareItLinkParty,
It doesn't take much time or many supplies to host a balloon themed party! Take a look at the fun we had with polka dot paper products and balloons. It all started when I saw these balloon paper plates from Hallmark I then purchased polka dot napkins and balloons from the Party Store. The balloon party hats were from a previous party, click here. Colorful water balloons were found at the Dollar Store. You can buy a hand pump there, too. (Let me re-phrase that...Be sure to buy a hand pump! These balloons are impossible to inflate without one...unless you have some serious lung power!) A teal green sheet was used to cover the table, on top of the sheet I rolled out a table runner of the polka dot wrapping paper. Instant color! Colorful craft poms (in all sizes)... were scattered on the table with the mini balloons. Each place setting had a real plate with the paper plate set on top. I love doing this. It adds such a fancy look to paper plates! Polka dot crepe paper (found at the Party Store) was wrapped around each plastic cup and taped to stay. Names were written onto the crepe paper with a Sharpie. My extra talented sister-in-law joined in the theme with a hot air balloon fruit tray! LOVE! Dessert was served in waffle bowls with a mini balloon sticking out of each one. I used Pringles Cookie Stixs and slipped a mini balloon on each one. (You could also use Pocky sticks.) Of course we had a photo booth! Here's a simple way to make one. We played Balloon Knee Volleyball for a multi-generational game. (It's basically volleyball that's played on your knees. Place a piece of tape on the floor for the net.) Need a balloon craft to keep busy? Click here for directions on how to make your own Balloon Bracelets. And there you have it. A bright and colorful Balloon Party.

Hello Friends! I've been a bit 'occupied' lately. When things get crazy, blogging is the first thing to go...hence the reason why you haven't seen me in awhile. So, what have I been doing? Oh, just a few little things... Packing, cleaning, moving, unpacking, organizing, rearranging, shopping, painting, more rearranging, decorating, entertaining, volunteering, ...oh, and a little vacation in there--just to name a few small things. We moved from our home of 16 years to a new home closer to the kids' school. We're saving so much time on our commute, that I'm wondering why we didn't move sooner. We are LOVING the new location...Lake Washington is right down the street from us! And (of course) living in a brand new home is wonderful! It's so clean and fresh, that I'm paranoid to make a mark on the walls! Yikes! (I've already had to get out the touch up paint.) Besides the normal craziness of moving, the hardest part for me has been re-establishing all the everyday routines. We had smooth, organized systems happening in our old home and now, not so much...yet. For instance, where should we hang our coats and leave our shoes when we walk in? Where should the lunchboxes go and the backpacks and the car keys? What about the mail and the papers from school? Where will we post the calendars and the important dates? Where will the dirty clothes go and the cleaning supplies and the extra toilet paper and the tissue boxes? Why doesn't this house have a linen closet? Which side of the sink should we stack the dishes and where are we putting the scrub brushes and the chip clips (those are important!). Where will all the DVD's go and the books--there's no built-in shelves! ...And where in the world should we put the grocery sacks and why don't the Ziploc bags fit in the drawers? (I think you get the picture.) The amount of energy it takes to re-organize a house and then re-train the family members has been quite exhausting. It's coming...but slowly. AH (awesome hubby) has been a bit confused as I organize the kitchen one way and then he comes home the next day to find things have moved. Apparently, it takes me awhile to process the best spots for all our gear? (You have to have the potholders close to the oven, but what do you do when you have two ovens far away from each other? Two drawers of potholders? Or one in the middle not next to either oven? Really? Who knew I could waste so much thought over potholders? And then there's the issue of where to put the drinking glasses when you have two sinks and a water dispensing fridge on the opposite side of the kitchen...) Please don't think I'm complaining about the kitchen--I LOVE the kitchen...it sparkles! Determining 'designated spots' is time consuming, especially because I want to make sure the systems are efficient. This house is a little bigger than our old home, but it doesn't have the storage space that we're used to. This has forced me to get rid of excess and only keep the things we love and use. A new house has also given me a clean slate to organize and decorate. (You can imagine that I'm loving that part!) I hope to share some of the organization projects that have kept me so busy and give you a tour, so please come back and visit! By the way, it's nice to be blogging again. I've missed you!
Today I'm sharing one my latest shopping adventures. It all started on a rainy day... (I know, this doesn't surprise you.) AH (Awesome Husband) asked if I wanted to go furniture shopping. WHAT?? YES!! Any time AH brings up the word 'shopping', I jump up from whatever I'm doing and get in the car before he changes his mind! AH consulted with his mom, (he's such a smart guy) and drove me to this small, out of the way... furniture store in Mt. Vernon, WA. (about 1.5 hours north of Seattle). I was quite doubtful we would find anything here. It looked so small and uninviting. We were in desperate need of a coffee table. One step in the door and I had to run back and grab my camera! I had never seen a store like this! The furniture was PACKED into this narrow building! Tons of chairs were hanging on the walls and ceilings. The furniture pieces were piled on top of each other! Couches, chairs, tables, lamps, desks, pillows, etc. all jammed together. We had to physically move things around to see all the pieces. What a treasure hunt! Everywhere we looked, we saw so many interesting things. Some new, some old, some unfinished... some modern, some contemporary, some traditional. Some pieces were locally made, some were custom made and some pieces just had to come home with us! We both fell for this unique coffee table trunk! AH had to remove a bit of the surrounding furniture to even view this trunk, but what a find! It was made in India using actual pieces of old Indian trunks. I loved the wheels on it and the inside storage! As we were paying for the trunk/table, I spotted this amazing 18 drawer cabinet unit. I loved the rustic quality to this piece. Old wood, dings and nails and the rusted label pulls, drew me in. So of course it had to come home with us as well. We found the perfect place for it...now I'm filling each and every drawer up with treasures. What a shopping adventure! I'm pretty sure that AH will not be taking me furniture shopping for quite awhile. I learned a lesson, too. Never judge a store by it's outside appearance! You've seen so many people re-stain and re-paint their banisters themselves and you think, "Can I really do that?" You love the fresh, painted, updated banister look, but wonder, "Will I really be able to pull it off?" Well, have no fear, folks...I'm here to set you straight. Reason #1. You love projects that never end! Projects that go on for days, weeks, months...those kind of projects give you extra energy and enthusiasm. Yep! Reason #2. You enjoy the smell of the orange scented stripping formula that leaves a sticky goo on everything, causes headaches and forces your family to leave for days. Right on! Reason #3. You appreciate getting feedback on your project every time a family member uses the stairs. Oh, yah! Reason #4. You have been thinking about adding blue painters tape to your permanent stairway décor. Pretty! Reason #5. You delight in the sounds of sanding and re-sanding and even more sanding as you breathe in the smell of sawdust. Mmm! Bring it on! Reason #6. You believe that flying dust is entertainment. You love to watch the layers of acrobatic dust moving in the air, attaching to every piece of furniture, molding, mirror, pillow, curtain, etc. Whoohoo! Reason #7. You get excited about taking multiple trips to the hardware store to buy more sandpaper and more brushes. Sign me up! Reason #8. You think that black stain drips on your white carpet is trendy. That's right! Reason #9. You believe that brush hairs, dust and those dried paint drips all add character to your railing's appearance. LOVE! And finally, Reason #10. You've been wanting to help God work on your patience. Amen! __________________________ So...what are you waiting for? (All clipart is from here.) To see my completed banister, click here! It's a Hawaiian Birthday Party! Break open the coconut, slice up the pineapple and put on your Hawaiian Aloha wear. It's time to celebrate! There are so many great Hawaiian party supplies found at the Dollar Store and your local party stores, that one needs to be careful not to overdo it. Unless one likes to overdo. I sometimes like to overdo. My mom's birthday sometimes causes me to overdo. (This may or may not be one of those 'overdo'/'overdone' times... I'll let you be the judge.) Aloha! Let's Party! One of my favorite 'over-the-top' party supplies are printed plastic backdrops. Hang a few plastic sheets of palm tree and ocean backgrounds and it's an instant CrAzY party! Bunches of paper lanterns and tissue paper flowers always add life to a party. Grass skirts taped around the table add to the tropical look. Hawaiian sarongs make the perfect table runners. Bamboo trays and shell necklaces and shell plates continue with the theme. I like to place glass plates on top of my paper party plates. This makes for easier eating and still gives off pretty color. After the meal, clear the glass plates and serve dessert directly on the paper plates. Honeycomb toothpicks and straws give the party a beachy vibe. Hawaiian punch or POG is the drink of choice for this party ...of course. Pineapple and pink flamingo water bottles take the table to a whole new level. Not to mention the pink umbrellas in the candy shot glasses. This party is not for the timid. Appetizers of stacked pineapple, mango and chicken sausage bites look festive on platters. Our menu included: -Pineapple, Mango & Sausage Appetizers -Shrimp Butter Lettuce Salad with Asian dressing -Hawaiian Chicken -Rice and dessert... -Vienna Fingers cookies make perfect flip flops. Add a bit of frosting, a sugar pearl and place them on a platter of brown sugar 'sand'. -Pink floral sugar cookies carried the theme, too. and then the cake! Just a triple layer, chocolate cake with coconut & macadamia nut filling with buttercream frosting. Click here to see how incredibly easy it was to frost this cake. You won't believe it! You can't mess it up...really! And, if you're going to have a party like this, you must have a dress code! (Gotta love my parents all decked out ready to party!) Don't forget to stage a photo shoot! Hawaiian hats, leis and pink flamingos just add to the craziness! The plastic party beach scenes are the perfect backdrops for pictures. Add in some Hawaiian music, hula and limbo to spice things up. It's a Pun-Filled Donut Themed Party! Hope you're not one of those people that say... "I 'donut' like puns." My little brother had a birthday, umm...last fall. We had just found out we were going to move, so I needed a quick, fun party theme that would be easy to pull off. My brother's favorite treats are donuts and Diet Coke. (Since then, Diet Coke is no longer in his diet, but nevertheless, we talking about last year. I'm sure donuts are still a big part of his diet!) Check out how fun and 'punny' a donut theme can be! First I downloaded these donut tags from here. Black and white striped paper cups (from Pick Your Plum) are filled with powdered donut holes. Donut labels were taped to black coffee stirrers. The table was covered with black butcher paper. I used a white chalk marker to write all kinds of donut puns. Just in case you need some donut puns...here's a few! We donut believe you're another year older! Here's to a great jelly and fun-filled year. We love you with our 'hole' heart. We donut know what we'd do without you. Are your eyes 'glazed' over from a sugar high, yet? We love ya... and not just because you make a lot of dough. (This one is a bit 'tongue-in-cheek'...because my brother works for my husband.) and my favorite... You're older today...it hurts, donut?! Mini Diet Coke cans were at each place setting. I taped a paper straw (that I cut to size) with washi tape directly to the can. I also downloaded these printable donuts. They look so real! A bit of printing, cutting and taping and I assembled a fun garland. I put one printed donut under each glass plate. And take a look at the donut hole tower! These were the best instructions on how to make a donut tower. My daughter thought the donut tower was amazing and had to have one at her birthday party! Click here to see. I also made a double layered chocolate cake. Buttercream frosted, chocolate jimmies sprinkled and lined with mini chocolate donuts, of course. Quick and easy! And there you have it. A festive donut celebration! Did you know that National Donut Day is the first Friday of June? Krispy Kreme hands out free donuts on that day--if you don't mind standing in their mile long line? Have a golf-lovin', 'tee-rific' dad in the house? Here's a golf-themed party that will have the whole family celebrating. Start with a few 'choice' golf puns. Click here to print your own. Click here to print some more golf puns. Add in a brunch menu full of golf terms. Start with sipping some Arnold Palmers-- half lemonade, half iced tea. Large potato fries become, Potato 'Wedges'. Water hazards made with blue jello and one white Sixlet candy for the golf ball-- steal the show. Shoestring potato chips in shot glasses are cleverly named, 'Chip Shots'. Layered 'Par'-faits go well with this party. Individual egg dishes are named 'Bunker Bowls' Chocolate chip pancakes make great 'Sand Traps'. Hard boiled eggs are labeled, 'Birdie' Eggs. And the bacon is called, 'Bogey Bacon'. Cut and display fruit as 'Slices'. Click here to print your own food labels. And how about some 'Tee Off' Cupcakes? Real golf tees inserted inside the cupcakes with a powdered sugar donut on top. Green frosting to resemble grass. Create a fun backdrop with real golf clubs and a banner that reads, 'Just Fore Dad'. Decorate the table with turf, golf balls and tees. Be sure to take lots of photos... and finish off the party with a competitive game of putting. Believe it or not, our daughter turned 16 this month. She also got her driver's license and went to her first semi-formal dance--all in the same week-end! Talk about overload for a mom...it's so hard watching my baby girl grow up...I'm quite emotional! To celebrate her day we had a simple 'wintry' Sweet 16 dinner party. Come take a look at how this came together so easily. The trick to a simple party is choosing one color! My daughter requested turquoise...so turquoise it was. Turquoise tablecloth--it's actually a sheet I found at Goodwill. Turquoise paper plates, straws and napkins Turquoise ornaments Bluish chargers I wrapped styrofoam cones with shiny turquoise wrapping paper. Turquoise netting, snowflakes and thick turquoise ribbon added a fun, soft look down the center of the table. 16 turquoise balloons hung down from the ceiling with turquoise curling ribbon. (16 balloons makes quite the statement!) The gifts were in turquoise bags and wrappings. A turquoise paper dot banner hung from the Sweet 16 headboard, turned chalkboard. (I love to change out the wording on that chalkboard!) And of course a turquoise party needs a turquoise cake! Crushed turquoise candy canes provided the easy 'wow' factor to a basic three layer cake with buttercream frosting. This isn't the first time I've done this! A turquoise cake needs turquoise ice cream. Blue Bunny Birthday Party flavor did the trick. Sixteen Candles, of course. A Sweet 16 Party must have sweets, right? Here's a few tricks for a simple dessert table that only looks impressive. Use a small table. Use glass containers for more than just sweets. Stick to the color theme. Turquoise netting inside glass vessels add to the decor. Turquoise party favors (mittens in cellophane bags) displayed in a glass pedestal bowl looks festive and full. Turquoise colored candies in glass containers completes the look. I can hardly believe it! Happy 16th Birthday, Kid! Want to have a turquoise party of your own? An anchor themed party for a nautical lover. You are my anchor in the storm.'
A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend the Disney On-the-Road Social Media Moms Celebration in Seattle. #DisneySMMoms This free, half day event was held in NYC, Washington DC, San Francisco and Seattle this year. The Seattle location was only minutes from where I live, so I signed up here and they sent me an invite to attend. It's always a bit scary walking into a situation where you know no one and you have no idea what to expect. Thankfully, I met Stephanie from modernparentsmessykids.com in line and we ended up sitting together with Keryn from walkingontravels.com. Both of these ladies are 'big-time' bloggers with amazing blogs--check them out. Bloggers always seem to have plenty to talk about...plenty! Lots of business cards were exchanged with other bloggers. Some were 'Disney' bloggers. Many were 'big' bloggers with thousands of followers. I'm just a tiny little, craft blogger, so I felt a bit out of place with the big names! Thankfully, everyone was very nice and friendly. And it was perfectly fine to be a little fish in a big pond...I mean, ocean! These little morsels of sweetness were set at each place. Mmmm! I learned all about the new attractions at Walt Disney World and Walt Disney Land. The new Cars Land looks amazing! My kids would love it...actually I would love it! I also learned about the new Fantasyland expansion. Very nice. And of course, we all wanted to hear more about the Disney Cruises and the Disney Hawaiian Resort, Aulani! Sign me up! The keynote speaker was Mindee Doney. Mindee (from Portland, OR) co-founded Boogie Wipes in 2007. (Wet wipes for noses.) The company had over $20 million in sales the first 3 years. Now, Mindee runs her own company, Juicebox Idea Consulting, where she mentors other inventors with their ideas. Mindee was a great speaker full of honesty, wisdom and inspiration. I enjoyed listening to her story of success, loss, divorce, finding peace and starting over. Her message-- Embrace, Empower and then, Expect. EMBRACE: Embrace who you are and what you do. You cannot be supermom at everything. -Accept your responsibilities. -Rock your talents. -Believe in the Big Picture. EMPOWER: -Know when to say 'no'. -Nurture what resets you. -Ask for help specifically and honestly. -Believe in your village, their way works, too. and then, EXPECT: Expect life to go on. -Cherish the highs, be in the lows. -Guilt trips are your gut check. -Start as you mean to go. -Set regular goals. -Be grateful. -Choose a pace that balances needs vs. wants. There was also a mom entrepreneur panel full of great local ladies running successful businesses online. Mindee led the discussion and questions were asked from the audience. Keryn went home with Mike from Monsters University. Her boys will be excited! I went home thinking about how grateful I am. Grateful for my faith, my husband, my kids and my family. Grateful that blogging is just a small 'fun' part of my life, not a stressful job. Grateful for the opportunities and friendships blogging has brought me. Thank you, Disney. Now, about that Hawaiian Disney Resort...... Linking up to CraftOManiac,
What's on your Thanksgiving table this year? Are you decorating with fresh leaves? Dried leaves? Cute little turkeys and pumpkins? How about adding paper sack leaves filled with candy corn? I'm sure these candy filled paper leaves will be a crowd favorite. My family was into the candy as I was trying to make them as fast as I could! You can write names on the leaves and they work perfectly as place cards. Take a look at how simple they are to create. (This post contains affiliate links to help you find products.) 1. Click here to print out the leaf template. (print in horizontal view.) 2. Cut out the leaf. 3. Trace leaf onto a folded paper sack. Use as many sacks as you can easily cut. I cut out about 4-6 layers at a time. (Use lunch bag sacks.) 3. Cut out leaf shape out of the paper sacks. 4. If you want to personalize your leaves, do it now. (I learned the hard way on this one.) 5. Using 2 paper sack leaves, sew up each side of the leaf. Leave the bottom open. 6. Indian Candy Corn works the best for filling the leaves. You can push a candy into each point of the leaf. About 6 pieces work well. 7. With the candy inside the leaf, finish sewing up the leaf. Be sure to leave a tiny bit of room for a stem. 8. Insert twig inside bottom of the leaf. How fun are these finished leaves? Place on top of each place setting. With or without being personalized. I like the look of a real leaf underneath the paper sack leaf. Did you see my Unbe'leaf'able tags? Click here. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here's some more ideas for your Thanksgiving table. When a pun lover approaches Valentine's Day, watch out! So many valentine ideas come 'bouncing' out of nowhere! And today is no exception. I do need to warn you that some of these BALL Valentines have a better 'bounce rate' than others. Today is LETTER B on our A to Z Valentine Printables-26 days of valentine ideas. B is for BALL. All the ideas today involve a valentine with a ball...a candy ball, bouncy ball or even a paper ball. Many schools require 'no candy' valentines. Attaching a bouncy ball to a valentine is a great alternative to candy and usually 'catches' excitement for both boys and girls. Bouncy balls are easy to find and usually inexpensive. Here are some options I 'threw' together for you. Baseball Valentine These valentines only work if you're a Mariners baseball fan. If not a fan, 'pass it' and move on. AH (Awesome Husband) is a HUGE fan, so I had to make these! (These are affiliate links to help you locate products.) Soccer BALL Valentine A few years ago my son needed valentines for his class and I crafted up a bunch of different 'boy' options for him. This soccer valentine was one of the options. Although he didn't choose this one, many of my friends have printed these out for their soccer-loving kids. You can attach a chocolate soccer ball or even a bouncy ball. BALListic Valentines My 14 year old son tells me that every boy hates Valentine's Day...unless they like someone. Girls are not on his radar, yet. (You have no idea how happy this makes me!) Last year he asked if he could stay home sick on that day. Who knows what will happen this year? I crafted up these silly valentines just in case he wants to give one or two to his friends. I doubt he will, but I think they're perfect to give to anyone who can't stand Valentine's Day. Attach a ball to the card. Click here to print your own. (These printables are not to be edited.) And here's some more BALL valentine ideas I found 'rolling' around the internet. For the last few years AH (Awesome Husband) has taken the kids to BOOM CITY to purchase fireworks. I've never been...until now. I decided I should probably go and see why my kids kept talking about this place! In 4th grade, my son wrote a paper about how the 4th of July was his favorite holiday because of fireworks and BOOM CITY. The teacher later emailed me one night in hysterics and said he accidentally misspelled the word 'BOOM'...he had ended it with a 'B' instead of the letter 'M'. It provided the teacher with some late night comic relief in her paper grading. My son was quite embarrassed when he realized what he had done. So...yesterday I joined the family with a trip to BOOM CITY. (spelled correctly) BOOM CITY is on tribal land, located in Tulalip, WA. The Native Americans in WA state have different laws and can sell all kinds of fireworks, including the 'illegal' fireworks. On Camano Island, we are allowed to set off our own fireworks. This makes our kids very happy. Before we even turned into the BOOM CITY parking lot, there were lots of advertisements to check out various booths. It almost had the look of being in the Dominican Republic... there were over a hundred 'little colored booths all in rows.' However, many of them had VISA signs. As we walked through, there were lots of comments, "What are you looking for?" "Come and see over here, we have everything!" "I'll make you a deal." Apparently AH had some 'big' fireworks leftover from last year, so this year we were looking to purchase a 'family assortment' fireworks pack. I had no idea that fireworks are so expensive! We saw $200. fireworks packs up to $600.+ packs and boxes. Thankfully we got out of there spending $50. My son was very happy with his 'family friendly' NewYorker Set. *Have you noticed that every picture has my son's mouth hanging open? Yes, apparently this place is 'paradise' for boys of all ages! I'm happy to say I never need to go back to BOOM CITY again...I'll let AH and the kids handle that. Now, let's stay safe tonight, kids! Happy 4th of July! We're off to a parade!

I'm sure I've mentioned that I strongly do NOT like to carve pumpkins. So, today I'm taking on another decorative approach. Washi Tape and Thumbtack Pumpkins Seriously simple, folks! Start with a foam pumpkin from a craft store or the Dollar Store. Gather up flat headed, white thumbtacks. (Black colored thumbtacks could work, too.) And you'll need some festive Washi tape. Stick the Washi tape around the middle of the pumpkin. Cover the stem of the pumpkin with pieces of Washi tape. Stick the tacks all over the pumpkin. Just stick them in! That's it! So incredibly easy...and cute! Happy Halloween! Have you seen my other 'non-carve' ideas? Come take a look! Today I'm posting about my latest card making endeavor. (It's basically how to make a bazillion, cute thank you notes without spending a lot of money.) I love finding packs of cute note cards at the craft stores. Sometimes they're a $1.00, other times a $1.50. (Yes, it's sad that some of the $1. bins have changed to the $1.50 bins.) A few weeks ago I scored when the craft bins were on clearance! (That doesn't happen very often.) I picked up a 6-pack of note cards for .50! Whoa! (Of course this meant I had to buy at least 6 packs of them! You'd do the same, right?) I'm guessing that one of the reasons these cards were on clearance was because they were monogrammed... plus these were the leftover letters that nobody wanted. (Kind of sad that not many names start with the letter O or Q.) Do you realize that these cards are so easy to change up, no matter what monogram letter is on them? Take a look. Just rip off the letter label. Tear it off. Scrape off the sticky foam square, too. Don't worry what it looks like, it will be covered up! Find some ribbon that matches the note cards and wrap a piece around the cover of the card. Tape the ribbon ends right where you ripped off the label on the front of the card. Stamp a 'thank you' message onto a white paper square. Glue the white square message onto a black paper square to make a mat. (You could stamp any message or picture or even stamp your correct monogram.) Using a glue stick, adhere the squares right on top of the taped ribbon ends. Easy, right? That's all there is to it! Look how I did the same thing with the zebra print cards. I tore off the monogrammed labels and added a turquoise ribbon. I taped the ends of the ribbon on the front of the card. I stamped a 'With Love' message on white, then matted it on black. I glued the message right on top of the taped ribbon. I did the same thing with these cheetah print cards. This time I used a sheer lime green ribbon. Instead of taping my ribbon flat, I tied it in a knot. I stamped a 'thank you' message and glued it onto the ribbon under the knot. Quick and easy! There you have it... Quick, Cheap, Cute Cards. Before--plain, straight from the store with a monogram that wasn't mine. After--a handmade touch. I've got quite a few of these easy-to-make card tutorials for you... so stay tuned. Plus, you'll want to see what I'm doing with all these cards... they're for a special person! If you've followed my blog for while, you know that I love Valentine's Day. There's just something fun and uplifting about giving letters and love greetings in the middle of winter when everything is so gray and gloomy around here. Giving someone a handmade card with a treat, toy or gift that tells them I'm thinking of them, brings ME so much joy. Maybe it does the same for you? This holiday gets a bad rap of being just for those 'in love' or for grade school children handing out valentine cards. But what about those friends and family members we love so much? Don't they get valentines too? I've put together 26 days of valentine printables and ideas. Whether you're looking for an idea for your child's classroom, or to hand out to friends, neighbors or coworkers, I've got plenty of ideas for you. And of course there's ideas to hand out to your special 'loved one'. Today is our first day and we're starting with the letter 'A', of course. A is for Apples. I live in WA State--known for Boeing, Nordstrom, Starbucks, Amazon, Microsoft and apples...real apples. The elementary school I attended was located on an old apple orchard and many of our school units were on studying how apples grow, writing reports on apples, creating stories with apples, etc, etc. My family and I have visited multiple apple orchards and we all eat at least one apple a day. (I'd like to insert here that we are always healthy because we eat apples--but that would be stretching it a bit.) Everyone around here (our family included) is quite choosy about their apples. Walk into any of our local grocery stores and you'll find at least 6-12 different varieties of apples to choose from. We all have our favorite variety. The joke in the family is on my dad. You hand him an apple and he'll hand you back the stem and seeds! Crazy, I know. Now that I've established my apple credibility, here's an apple valentine for you. These work perfectly with whole apples or even those apple slice packets. (Yes, I'm fully aware those apple slice bags are not from WA State apples. My own kids don't like them, but you've got to admit they're perfect for classroom valentines.) Click here to print your own Awesome to the CORE Apple Valentines. (These valentines are not to be edited. Print on cardstock for best results.) After cutting the tags and hole punching, tie with baker's twine around a real apple or onto apple slice packets. ...and I've 'gathered' up some more apple valentines for you. Enjoy! He also thought that the sticky toy frogs that you can throw at kids things were pretty cool. Click here to print your own frog valentines. (These printables are not to be edited. My niece turned 13 last week. She posted a selfie on Instagram that read, 'Finally a teenager!!!'I knew she wanted money for clothes for her birthday, but there's not much fun in opening a card with money in it, is there? Ummm... I guess I should say...it's not a very fun gift to give. So I made it fun by packaging up a 'party in a box'--with money inside an envelope at the bottom. I did it pretty quickly, too. Birthday craft paper was cut to size and glued onto the flaps of the plain cardboard box. A few colorful goodies were placed in the box. -Confetti Cupcake Pop Tarts -Air Heads Bites -Bubblegum lip gloss -notebook -pencils -pen -heart shaped post-its -hot pink loofah -party blowers -balloons (I inflated water balloons.) (All supplies came from Target.) Polka dot tissue paper was layered throughout. The inflated balloons were squeezed inside the box, before taping it shut. I wrapped the box with festive polka dot paper. Thick, pink ribbon, a washi tape tag and a party blower completed the package.. Click here to see how I made the washi tape tags. Now this looks like a party! Back of tag read: The possibilities are endless with this 'party in a box idea'. TIME for a PARTY! Come take a look at this 'time themed' bridal shower I co-hosted at our church. Invitations were sent out as well as posting the information in our church's bulletin. (I crafted the invites using PicMonkey and adding a bit of ribbon.) TIME for DECORATIONS! I decorated with the bride's wedding colors...pink, gray, white and black. I hung pink and silver curtains to make the backdrop. The circle banners were cut out of cardstock and sewn together on my sewing machine with regular thread. I tried my hand at the trendy chalkboard art I've been seeing everywhere. I made the image I wanted on the computer and printed it out. I drew grid lines on the image and on my chalkboards. Square by square I copied the images with plain white chalk. (The bride-to-be is a teacher, so I knew she would appreciate the chalk art.) Using cotton swabs and water, I erased all the stray lines... and called it good. (Although I love the look, I don't think more chalkboard art is in my future--takes too long!) TIME to EAT! I baked up a few different flavors of cupcakes and frosted them all with pink butter cream frosting and sprinkles. I printed out little toppers that said... TIME to EAT! TIME to PARTY! TIME to CELEBRATE! TIME to get MARRIED! TIME to LOVE! (Click here for link to print your own.) Using pink and black stirring straws cut in half, I taped the circles on the straws using decorative washi tape. The cookie clocks were made from Nabisco's Famous Chocolate Wafers. I piped on the numbers and the hands of the clocks with frosting. (You might recognize them from this post...click here.) Each cookie clock was set into the frosting on top of each regular sized cupcake. (By the way, never do this the night before...the cookies will get soft and break! I just happen to know.) Because the shower was at 10am, we asked many guests to bring brunch food items to share...and boy, did they! Wonderful pastries, egg dishes, fruit and cookies arrived. (Church ladies are the best!) I had signs around the room saying various TIME phrases, like TIME for LOVE. I printed these out on tagboard, cut them, and taped them to pink and white paper straws. They looked cute sitting in pink tissue inside metal polka dot pails (from Target). TIME for WISDOM! Set up next to the cupcake display was a table filled with pink paper circles that said, "Take TIME to..." Each guest was asked to fill in a bit of wisdom for the bride. The circles were clipped onto the branches. TIME for a PHOTO! Mother of Bride with Bride-to-be, Alyssa! If you've read my blog before, you know I can't have a party without a photo booth! I hung a sheet over a rolling divider and draped sparkly netting, crepe paper, paper circle banners and a few paper fans on top. I had black frames for the guests to hold. I tried so hard to get every guest's picture, but I can think of at least 3 people that were there-- that I missed...(or were they purposely avoiding me?!) TIME for a DEVOTION! At our church we love to have a short devotion time during the shower. A friend and mentor of the bride gave a lovely 'time themed' talk on waiting, patience and the blessings that come from it. TIME for SCRIPTURE I printed out scripture that had the word TIME in it. These circles were scattered on various tables throughout the room. (To print out your own TIME scriptures, click on the links below:) 2 Tim. 1:9, Acts 1:7 2 Cor. 6:2, Ecc. 3:1 Esther 4:14, Heb. 10:12 Hosea 10:12, Isaiah 46:10 John 17:1, Prov. 17:17 Psalm 31:15, Psalm 62:8 Psalm 9:9 TIME for a GAME! TIME for MUSIC! Can't have a shower without a game, right? My co-host, Meghan put together a collection of 10 songs that had something to do with 'TIME'. She played just a snippet of each song and we had to write down the name and the artist who sang the song. The winner received a clock necklace. Here's the song picks:Rock Around the Clock --Bill Haley Time in Between --Francesca Battistelli Big Time --Rush One Time --Justin Bieber This Time for Africa --Shakira Good Time --Owl City Time of My Life --Bill Medley Takes a Little Time --Amy Grant Longest Time --Billy Joel Sunshine and Summertime --Faith Hill TIME for GIFTS! We made the gift table look like a clock. Each guest decided on a time that their gift would be used. They set their gift on the appropriate hour. I had sticky labels to mark their gift with the appointed time. The bride opened the gifts in order. A special gift was this beautiful quilt handmade by the Quilting Group of our church. Gorgeous! TIME for a MEAL! Many ladies in the church contributed money towards the group gift. We purchased the bride's china, flatware and goblets and set it out for everyone to see. She also received 4 sets of her everyday dishes! (Her beautiful china pick was Vera Wang Wedgwood Grosgrain.) TIME to GO! After all the gifts were opened, the party was over...time to go. Each guest was given a candy watch as a favor. I made little circle tags that read, "TIME to Go... Remember to take TIME to pray for Alyssa and Matt. Thanks for celebrating with us!" We're out of time...

I'm kind of hoping that no one reads and tries out this recipe. It's sort of a secret family recipe that is so incredibly good, that you just don't want to share it with the world. (That sounds a little snobbish, doesn't it?) After some Internet hunting, I did find some similar recipes on the web, so I guess it's not really a secret. I am posting it on my blog, so I guess I'm sharing it with the world, which makes me not a snob...right?! I probably shouldn't mention that the real reason I'm posting this recipe is so I won't lose it. My amazing mother-in-law passed this recipe down to me because (1) she loves her son, (2) she loves me, and (3) she is not a snob! This is my husband's favorite recipe of all time. Every birthday, sometimes for holidays and sometimes for special guests, we make these amazing, sweet, garlicky ribs. Here's the story... (because every good recipe has a story behind it.) There once was this little snack shop in Kihei, Maui (now closed) where my husband's family would eat while on vacation. It was called Azeka's Ribs. The place was small, located in a strip mall with a walk up ordering window. They sold the most amazing Korean style ribs. One could buy a pound or more of ribs cooked or uncooked--ready to take home and grill yourself. My awesome husband (AH) grew up with these ribs and LOVED them! Every trip to Maui, their family indulged in these ribs. On one Hawaiian trip that his parents took without him, they brought him home Azeka's Ribs in a cooler on the airplane. Later at home, AH's mom worked hard to duplicate the Azeka's Rib marinade recipe (this was before the internet, people!) She came up with this recipe (with help from a Korean friend) and made them for her son's birthday every year. When I married into the family I was introduced to Azeka's Ribs and of course, the rest is history. Azeka's Ribs Marinade (Feel free to experiment with the amounts. Some prefer much more sugar, others more sesame oil and garlic.) 5-6 pounds of Flanken Cut Beef Ribs (The meat is cut lengthwise across the rib bones.) In a large bowl mix together the marinade: 1.5 cups soy sauce 1 cup sugar 7-8 cloves garlic, chopped 4 Tablespoons sesame oil 2 Tablespoons fresh chopped ginger (or 1 Tablespoon ground ginger) 1 Tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce Soak meat in the marinade and then place the meat in large ziploc bags. Pour marinade over the meat. Seal the bags and place in a pan in the refrigerator. The longer you let the meat marinate in the refrigerator, the better! 3 days is amazing, but 1-2 days still works. A couple times a day, turn the ziploc over to help the meat marinate fully. Grill meat on medium heat. Don't go too hot because of the sugar. Serve warm. Now, since I'm sharing this recipe with you, I must share AH's Azeka's Ribs eating ritual. (1) Use your hands. (2) Don't leave any meat on the bones. (3) Suck the bones dry. Ewww, I know, I know...but trust me. One bite and you'll be sucking the bones, too! There you have it. See, I'm not a snob. Enjoy. Linking up to: CraftOManiac, LinesAcross, MondayFunday,
