Established in Canada, and 100% Canadian Made, our craft is family owned and operated with passion at the heart of everything we do. We started in 2018 by redesigning the iconic Muskoka chair for the next generation, to align with our ethos of design-first, locally-made products that are built not for a season, but for the long haul. Made right here in Ontario Mennonite-country and designed by industrial designer Shinya Kominami, ORI is a nod to Japanese roots and Canadian heritage.

Larry Towell first encountered the Mennonites in the fields close to his home in Ontario, Canada, and gained unique access to their lives, which were otherwise cut off from the rest of society. Towell documented life in Mennonite communities for over 10 years over the course of the 1990s, photographing a total of 23 Mennonite groups across Canada and Mexico. Pictured here is a family from the La Batea colony in Zacatecas, Mexico — an image that would later go on to be the cover of his book, The Mennonites, originally published in 2000.

A more unlikely world opera star than Paul Frey could not be found. Born into a conservative order Mennonite farming family in rural Ontario, Canada in 1941, he was a high school dropout. His first career was as a truck driver, transporting livestock to market. But he was a young man with a powerful and true tenor voice, and a desire to sing opera. Entering opera school unable to read musical notes or count beats, Frey was offered primarily chorus roles during training and after graduation. Frustrated, he moved to Switzerland in 1977, signing a contract with the Theater Basel as house tenor. In 1987, Frey came to the attention of Wolfgang Wagner of the famed Bayreuth Opera House in Bayreuth, Germany. He was chosen to star in Bayreuth's Werner-Herzog-directed production of Richard Wagner's Lohengrin. At Bayreuth, Frey became a star and the world sat up and took notice. Offered lead roles from opera houses across the globe, Paul Frey was compared to the greatest of tenors, including Canadian Jon Vickers. Retiring in 2005, Paul Frey lives today in \"\"Mennonite Country,\"\" where he was born and raised.

Old Order Mennonite meeting house (Conestogo), near St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada. This building is about 17 years old in this photo, having been torn down, and rebuilt on the same spot, and using the same design. It now serves two Congregations, as the "Martin" meeting house is now in the city of Waterloo, and the heavy city traffic makes it too unsafe and difficult to visit regularly with horse and buggy, although funerals are sometimes still held there, with the burial in that (Martins) cemetery.

Mix the cornstarch with a little milk then mix all ingredients together. Put the mixture into a buttered casserole and bake at 325 degrees for approximately one hour. A brown skin should be baked on the top of the pudding. Stir this skin into the pudding and bake another one hour until another skin forms. Check carefully. Last evening I tried to blog, but I could not get anywhere, so let's try again. The quilt for the Mennonite Relief Sale this year is done. Size: 60 by 60 inches. Hand appliqued by members of the Waterloo County Quilters Guild and hand quilted by members of the Listowel Mennonite Church. The "big sister" is going to Quilt Canada and will be auctioned of next year. The whole project lasted from October 2008, when I asked if members of the guild would be interested in this project, till now. Around 100 different ladies have worked on the the quilts. And I would say, that it's the average time it took for the quilts I have coordinated. It never has been a speedy process. Now it is on to another longtime project. For 2 winters I have made a crazy quilt block for my "horsy" quilt. This winter there had not been the time up to now. I got all my fabrics out and sewed one block, putting the different laces and sigar silks in as necessary. It went so well, that I also sewed the fourth and last block.( My first plan was to make 12 blocks. After one was finished it was changed to six. After the second block it was down to 4)All 4 have a photo transfer with horses in the center. The fabric has been put away and now there is another mess on the table with buttons, laces, ribbons and you name it. It will be a long time project. Tomorrow and Saturday I will be teaching in Guelph (both workshops are full). Next week Wednesday there will be our Guild meeting, followed the next day by a trip to Toronto for Canada Blooms. I'm looking forward to the day and will take my camera along. I hope to get some ideas for another flower related wall hanging. How about some of my fancy Japanese fabrics with ikebana style flower arrangements? I have another workshop coming up on Saturday March 27th It will be at Quilters Dream in Waterdown ((905-689-3434) and we will be making the pansies. We have had a few beautiful days. Everybody seems to be in a good mood. When I walked this morning with Riley, I got a lot of waves from the passing cars. I cannot see any of the 200 daffodils, we planted last fall yet. What I can see is the mess on the lawn. When we put the geothermal heating system in during December it had started to snow and up to now the ground always was covered by snow. Now the bare ground is visible and it is clear there is a lot of fixing up to do. But I realize that will have to wait till after the planting seeding and spraying .

Up for offer is an antique 1850's cotton quilt in wonderful vintage condition. This beautiful quilt was purchased by my in-laws at an estate sale in 1969 in St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada. A lovely Strippy pattern, it was handmade by a Mennonite woman named Elizabeth Weaver. It's condition is excellent, especially considering it's age. No apparent damage, marks or issues - absolutely beautiful condition. This quilt was appraised for $2299.00 in 2004 by Diane Shink, and the original paperwork will come with it (with stamped, embossed seal - see last listing photo.). Please note that since the appraisal is only valid for three years, you would have to get another one done if you wish to have one for insurance purposes. It has been kept in a cedar box since it's 2004 appraisal, so the condition has remained the same.
