Hello & happy Monday! This summer is flying by so quickly -- August, already?! Today I am sharing a quilt that was actually finished earlier this Spring. Some of you may recognize it from Instagram or even this sneak peek progress post. This Giant Starburst quilt is a larger, one block design from March's Fresh Mini Quilt Club. Here's a look at the mini quilt! For the Giant Starburst quilt I used a vibrant selection of Pure Element solids from Art Gallery Fabrics -- Cherry Lipgloss, Lemonade, Cozumel Blue, and Verve Violet. The color saturation just "pops" against the crisp, clean white background fabric. I quilted this lap size quilt using my favorite straight-line quilting technique, my BERNINA walking foot, & of course, Aurifil thread (50 wt., color 2024). I did play around with the straight-line quilting pattern -- three close lines & then a larger gap -- which really makes an interesting texture! The backing fabric is a text print from Ikea -- one of my favorites! I chose one of my all time favorite black & white binding fabrics to finish off the design. Unfortunately it's an out of print Moda fabric, but there are plenty of stripped fabric alternatives from several different fabric manufacturers. The finished quilt size is 60" x 60". Find the fabric here: Pink Castle Fabrics Fat Quarter Shop Have you experimented with block size before? Feel free to share your projects below, I'd love to see! xo, Megan

I absolutely love swaddling my babies! Swaddling is awesome because not only does it keep your baby snug and warm, but it helps prevent them from waking themselves with their own startle reflex. There are a lot of really cute swaddling blankets out there, but unfortunately many of them are just too tiny to actually be useful. The only brand I’ve bought and actually been able to use were Aden and Anais swaddles, they are truly lovely and very large. Generally I much prefer to make my own, that way i can have complete control over size and fabric choice. It’s easy, cheap, and i think anyone can do it, even with the most basic of sewing skills. I always keep one in my handbag incase i need an emergency breastfeeding cover, or something clean to […]
We became pretty obsessed with finding different ways to customize my denim including how to fade and distress denim.
Have you noticed the embroidered jeans trend that’s being going on in recent years? I have wanted to try this for so long but have been hesitant to try a lot of the embroidery positioning that I’ve seen. I think to make this feature work you need to be careful not to go overboard. I decided on embroidering one back pocket, the idea being that it’s enough to be a feature and is also a removable part of my jeans so if i get sick of it I can easily remove the pocket and sew a new one on. This is a great option if you are worried about fully committing to embroidering your handmade jeans. I thought I’d walk you through the process I used and a few tricks I figured out along the […]

Megan has done a few scalloped hem tutorials in the past, but we thought it would be nice for a little update. It’s really not as hard as you would think! So follow along, and you’ll be creating scalloped hems in no time……. 1. Start by folding, pressing, and sewing a single fold hem towards the inside of your garment. It doesn’t necessarily have to be quite as much as mine ( about 1”), but make it at least 1/2″. 2. Now fold again, right sides together, a couple of inches or so. Your sewn line will be the guideline for the top of your scallop. So how much you fold over will really depend on how deep you want your scallop pattern to be. You’ll see what I mean within the next few steps. Pin […]
Today we’ll be covering how to add a neckline band – the most common neckline finish you’ll see on tshirts. You can attach a neckline band to any tee using either ribbing, self fabric or contrast fabric. You’ll just need to make sure that your fabric has the appropriate amount of stretch. If you need help calculating stretch percentage don’t forget to check out this post all about stretch percentage, and download my free guide. This neckline works beautifully on the Briar sweater and tee, Mini Briar sweater and tee and Cara maternity tee sewing patterns. In the Briar and Cara i provide a pattern piece for a neck band made from self fabric. If you choose to use ribbing with the Briar or Cara you’ll need to remove about an inch (possibly more) from the neckline […]
