I believe there’s one thing that sets apart makers and non makers. It’s not creativity, hustle, risk, or gumption or any type of special gift. It’s the willingness to say No to really good things, in order to say a few well placed Yeses. Say No to as many good things that you can, so that you are free to say Yes to the best things that only you can do, those things you were created to do. This is one of the hardest lessons that I will never stop having to learn. People will think you are weird. You will think you are crazy. But keep at it and you will see progress in those few small areas that you are uniquely gifted to pursue. Dear Maker, the world needs you, nay, the world is begging you to say No, boldly. Christianity Today featured 20 makers mixing faith & innovation in their latest cover story. I was delighted to be included along with 19 other makers who are actively saying no to good things, so that they can focus on a few things that they feel called to pursue in order to encourage and make a […]

We road high into the hills of the Amuzgo villages to meet the makers of some of the finest textiles, spun from organic cotton and backstrap woven into intricate brocade work. And we ended our weeklong journey with one of the few remaining Mixtec Murex purpurea shell dyers.
