Friends~I finally figured it out-2 for 1 composition books! I have been loving the composition books that have been cut in half recently. I have seen them on several blogs and I have gone to Lowes and Home Depot as suggested to have my 12 books cut in half so that I had 24 smaller books. Doubling my lot! (The kiddos never use a whole page anyway:) Here's my journey for the 2 for 1! I first made several trips to Lowes and Home Depot but they left me defeated. Don't get me wrong the guys that helped me and tried to cut the books were super kind but their saws ate, destroyed, tore, and mangled my books. After the loss of my 2nd book the man at Home Depot suggested that I try Office Max. Look-ie, Look-ie! It was less than $3 to have these 2 for 1 babies cut! Office Max can cut around 8 at a time. I am so super excited about it! Check out my labels below for the front of the books. I am using one for my calendar journals and one for spelling. You can download the labels that I plan to use on the covers for My Calendar Journals next school year by clicking the images below. If you do so, I would love for you to leave a comment and follow my blog so you don't miss any Back to School Freebies!

Melissa Frances has a new line out this month called 5th Avenue designed by Sherelle Christensen, and it's so soft and beautiful. Check out their blog for your chance to win this line and to see all the lovelies, papers, projects made with it, etc! Today I thought I would show you some things I made with this new line. This is a little layout about my love for all things shabby and pretty - crochet, architectural details, handmade flowers, twine, pearls, etc. I took pictures of some things I loved and then printed them out in 2x2" squares. The pockets are Melissa Frances as well - I tucked photos into them and shabbied them up a bit with paint, stitching and a rub on. This next one is a fun layout of my daughter Kati. I die cut a bunch of butterflies with my Sizzix and went to town on this one, not really trying to get it perfect...just having fun with it. I still want to add some journaling strips above the ric rac. This little girl is very much made of wings. She is definitely an angel from above. These pictures were taken a few weeks ago of Kati when she was playing dress up! :) Last is a 10 page mini album I made with the smaller envelope and tags mini album by Melissa Frances! It's called "10 Blessings" and I scrapped one thing on each page that I feel blessed for in my life. *Edited to add: This album was sold as a kit at CHA, so I needed to remove the inside pages from my gallery. I apologize for the incovenience.* I have more to share with you tomorrow.... some Jenni Bowlin projects made with the Feb. kits that go on sale Feb. 1st! Have a beautiful day! Danielle
Our viking lapbooks created by us! Max is putting the front cover together on a lap book we designed ourselves using bits and pieces of other lap books and images we found online or from Cd's we purchased. This cover is made by TJ. All the covers were made by cutting off the bottom portion of the front flaps to make the sail. The viking hull and oars we adapted from this make-it-yourself viking boat pattern. We printed it on card stock and glued down only the bottom and the side edges so that it remained sort of a shallow pocket for the viking men to sit inside. The shields came from the viking boat we made in passport to the Middle ages ship last week, and the viking sailor is a coloring page reduced to 40 percent when printed. Max added the water below the boat on his lap book and TJ took his idea and made water on his as well. They each did the title a little differently. Max's cover includes two cleverly hidden pockets to hide hidden treasure he says. And Zak added three extra vikings to his ship and used the black and yellow colors to make it look more fierce. Detail of Tj's Viking. Zak's viking men and viking mask. TJ is working on his map under the table. :) What's on the inside of TJ's Lapbook? (the tan dragon that sort of hold the map down is also under the long house. The long house is glued down on top of the dragon portion underneath.) The vikings are mostly known for their ship building, raiding and sailing so the map shows the travels of the vikings, and the larger flip book on the right describes all the things vikings were most know for. The smaller flip book details things the vikings were less know for. Thus if you lift the map you will see more of those things. When the map is lifted up there are more items; the viking alphabet, two recipe cards for barley bread and beef stew, which slip down into the long house. The long house doors open and inside are viking men and women doing every day things. Zak is working on his long house under the table too! On the underside of the viking trading map is the term viking defined. and more info about who the vikings were. We made viking masks and the boys pretended to 'go a viking' This lap book was the culmination of our month long look at the vikings. Over the months time we have been reading many books and listening to a few audios and seeing some really great documentaries, they are as follows: Viking Tales Audio Eirik the red's Saga Audio Viking Adventure The Vikings by Janeway (very similar to Lief the Lucky but a more complex story) Lief the Lucky Rolf and the Viking Bow Links to more Viking lap book ideas Dynamic 2 moms Squidoo lens History of theVikings for Kids Viking Adventure lap book Who were the Vikings BBC documentary 1 of 3 Viking Traders BBC documentary 2 of 3 The end of the Vikings BBC documentary 3 of 3 The Real Vikings by the History Channel Viking Voyages board game you remake yourself

This race car birthday party was the perfect way to celebrate my son's birthday. The food, decorations and games all tied to the theme.
Our Thanksgiving weekend was busy and filled with great family memories. Full of gratitude for my own little (big) family . . . And for my parents, siblings and their children . . . The boys kept the tradition alive by starting off Thanksgiving with an early morning Turkey Trot 5K. Ryan is still the one to beat. And once again, I forced the kids to pose by the turkey before heading to my parents’ for our Thanksgiving dinner. Love all of the cute artwork and crafts that come home from school during the holidays. Mia has discovered a love for drawing. She spends most of the day drawing or coloring pictures. This stage of drawing is always my favorite. Look at her cute pilgrims and Indians. Griffin is doing so well in 1st grade and loves to read and write. And is thankful for his ‘loveing family.' Feasting with my family. My grandma always had Santa come to her house on Christmas Eve and surprise her grandchildren and now that she is now gone, my mom decided it was time for her to start the tradition with her grandkids. She did some calling around and found out that the ‘Real’ Santa and Mrs. Claus were available to drop by for a visit. I’m not sure who enjoyed this more--my mom or the kids. The grandkids didn’t know Santa was coming and were so surprised when Santa walked in the house with his bells a jingling and a few “ho, ho, ho!”s Morgan couldn’t stop giggling and Mia and Griffin just couldn’t believe he was really there. We sang a few Christmas songs with Santa and then he had each one sit on his lap as he looked through his notebook of 'Naughty and Nice' lists that his elves had put together for him. We ended the evening with Santa sharing a Christmas story that tied in the true meaning of Christmas. It was the perfect way to end our Thanksgiving weekend and begin the holiday season. And now it’s time to pull out all of those Christmas bins and get the house ready for the Christmas season. Mia can hardly wait. She’s already been digging through bins in the storage room and bringing up several things each day that I find randomly placed throughout the home. My favorite was finding my “N-O-E-L” blocks set up on a bookshelf out of order, “O-L-E-N”. Wishing you all more “OLEN” in your holiday season!

Included in this purchase, you will receive 36 different 4x6 signs for your flexible seating needs. I designed these to fit in 4x6 clear, plastic stand up frames that I purchased at Dollar Tree. I set them in all of my different flexible seating areas of my classroom. At the end of each day, I collect all student clothespins and draw them out of a bucket. Students then go move their clips onto the space they’d like to sit in for the next day. You don’t have to do this, though! Feel free to use these signs however you see fit for your classroom! In this PowerPoint file (make sure you have PowerPoint prior to purchasing), you are able to edit as much as you need (excluding graphics - those are locked in place for security). You can choose your own, simple to read font and type how many seats you have available for each flexible seating spot in your classroom. You can also change the names of the different seating options in case you call them something that I don't already have! Due to limited flexible seating images available, I am unable to edit/add custom seats. As more images become available, I will update this pack. Primary friendly signs (no cursive), are also included. You will find all of the same signs, but the script font used has been changed to a simple, thin font for younger students.
