Siebentausend Spanier haben in Mauthausen ihr Leben verloren. Paco Aura hält sich treu an sein Versprechen, welches er sich gemeinsam mit den anderen Überlebenden gegeben hat: Niemals würden sie es zulassen, dass ihre Erlebnisse jemals in Vergessenheit geraten. Selbst in hohem Alter organisierte er noch Konferenzen und Vorträge. Aus seinen Erinnerungen heraus spricht er über die Verfolgungen der spanischen Republikaner nach der Niederlage gegen Franco. Er erzählt vom überqueren der Grenze, von den Flüchtlingslagern, von der Maginot-Linie und von der Flucht in die Schweiz. Aber nichts, noch nicht einmal die harte Erfahrung auf dem Schlachtfeld, konnte ihn auf das vorbereiten, was noch kommen würde: Mauthausen. Paco Aura, geboren 1918, aus Alcoy (Spanien), schloss sich 1936 den Republikanischen Kräften an, im Kampf gegen die faschistischen Franco-Truppen, sowie deren deutsche und italienische Verbündeten. Nach der Niederlage Flucht nach Frankreich und Freiwilliger in der französischen Armee, Kriegsgefangenschaft und Deportation nach Mauthausen, wo er vier Jahre und neun Tage gefangen war. Nach der Befreiung ging er als Minenarbeiter nach Frankreich, bevor er gesundheitlich stark angeschlagen 1953 in seine Heimatstadt zurückkehrte, wo er heiratete, drei Kinder bekam und in der Textilindustrie neu anfing. Seit 2016 trägt in Alcoy eine Brücke seinen Namen, in Erinnerung an alle Alcoyanos, die in den Lagern starben. An der Einweihung nahm er als letzer Überlebender teil.

Però el fill tenia llavors vint anys i dubtava si podria enfrontar-se de nou als horrors que havia sentit quan era un nen i samagava dels adults exdeportats que venien a casa compartint les seves experiències. Per això, Joan Tarragó va escriure, pocs anys abans de morir, les seves memòries del camp de Mauthausen, la seva reclusió de quatre anys i quatre mesos en convivència amb la mort. Més de quaranta anys després, Llibert safegeix al pare amb la seva sensibilitat.

O campo de concentração de Mauthausen detém presos políticos espanhóis antifascistas que se organizam para salvar alguns poucos camaradas.
