Q- Tip Dandelion My plan was for my son to do this dandelion , but all he wanted to do was stick the q-tips in his nose, in his ears- pretty much everywhere but the glue. So I made the flower and my son happily and very carefully painted with a q-tip, a great open […]
This is a standard oldie, but goody. Grab a box of Q-tips, construction paper, scissors, glue, and a marker or crayon. Draw a circle for the face (or if child is able, have then draw the circle as well) and let your child fill in the facial features. Glue down the head and draw some glue lines for the bones to go. Again, this is something an older child can do. (You may want to pencil in a skeleton beforehand so they sort of have some guidelines.) Cut some of the Q-tips in half. Time to add the bones. This is a good time to let the imagination go and not try to make sure it looks nice. There could be several variations. And bones where you never knew they existed! I also saw THIS varation online this morning.
Bugs make excellent subjects for fabric collage. Maybe that’s why I made so many of them over the years and why they are such a favorite with my students.
Toilet rolls are on everyone's mind, could it be possible that people are using more these days? Maybe it's just my imagination, but clearly there seems to be an obsession with the little paper rolls. Whatever the case, there are so many useful projects we can make with the interior cardboard part of the toilet
Almost any day now, my sister will be giving birth to her first kid. I'm excited to be an aunt again. My brother has two little boys, and they've been a great joy in my life as well as a blast to sew for. My sister however, is having a girl, which will change

I've been making inchies books like crazy! This one is actually 1.5'' x 15". I cut out a bunch of little watercolor squares this size with my cricut, then did the same thing to cut the bases out of cereal box. Keeps 'em nice and substantial! This page is my favorite, even though the octopus only has 6 legs. Who's got room for 8 legs, really? I need to start experimenting with drawing other little animals... I tend to fall back on the tentacled creatures and birds! And the book unassembled. I think the next one I make will bind at the tops, kind of like a calendar... Or I'll just make a mini-calendar! That would be fun. Happy Saturday! (Oh, and a side note for the awesome folks who started doing the Swagbucks thing to get some free stuff: The best way to get the stuff you want is to redeem your points for amazon.com giftcards. You can save em up, then just order whatever from Amazon.com. It takes a little while to accrue points, but that's how I got my tablet. And thanks for signing up! You're gonna really like it! Oh and, I don't really usually like to link to stuff here, because I think you guys pretty much just want to see crafts, but I've really gotten a kick out of this Swagbucks site, so I wanted to share the free goodness :) So don't worry, I won't start... like... spamming you guys.)

Last year, I cleaned out and got rid of most of my fabric stash. (Read about that here). I didn't touch my scraps though. I can't bring myself to get rid of them because someday I'll make a postage stamp quilt or a string quilt or a scrappy something! (Maybe I'll design a quilt meant to use scraps...hmm...) In the ba
Hi everyone. Today I'm sharing an experiment. :) I seem to say that just about every post. :) I watched a video tutorial on a "new-to-me" technique and then gave it a try. I'm happy how my lilac turned out. Believe it or not, this is done with Q-Tips. Fun, right??!! :) I started by watercolouring a green stem, just to get the basic length and size for my flower. I diluted three colours of Stampin' Up! re-inkers by about half with water ...maybe a little more water than that. Then I bundled up five q-tips, securing them with an elastic in the center, made a second bundle of three q-tips ... again securing with elastic, and then had a single q-tip. I added colour to the flower, starting with the larger bundle and darkest purple ink (blackberry bliss). As I moved up the flower, I used the smaller bundle with the medium purple (elegant eggplant) and then the lightest purple (wisteria wonder) more near the top. I used the single q-tip to add a bit of variation through the whole flower. I then hand painted the two leaves and shaded using different colours of Gansai Tambi watercolour paints. To finish, I splattered both the green and dark purple over the card front and stamped the sentiment in the dark purple. I used a waterbrush to move the ink of the sentiment to give it a more watercoloured look. Here's the link to the video that I watched. Thanks for stopping by. Stamps: Sentiment - The big, the bold, the happy (Winnie & Walter) Paper: Watercolour paper (Arches 140 lb. cold press) Ink: Re-inkers: Blackberry Bliss, Elegant Eggplant, Wisteria Wonder (Stampin' Up!); Gansai Tambi watercolour paints Accessories & Tools: Paint brush, Q-tips

My 'flying geese overload' quilt is finished. Meredithe from pomegranateandchintz suggested last week that maybe I could try every second row of geese flying upside down - thanks Meredithe, such a great idea, I love the effect! After getting the backing pieced and the layers all basted, I did some machine quilting. Lots of parallel straight lines, evenly spaced across the quilt. And I used a teal solid for the binding, it seemed to tie the whole quilt together really well. The fnished quilt is approx. 45" x 60" a great 'throw' size for the couch, and that's another project crossed off the long list! Is anyone else surprised that Thanksgiving is next week?!?!? How is that even possible? I'm so not ready. Maybe it's that fact that the weather is off (it was 87* this weekend) or that I've been sick the past few days. All I know is I have a huge to do list to complete in preparations for the holiday. Instead of working on cleaning, shopping and menu planning, my little artist and I worked on some Fall decor. I thought I would share our projects in case you needed something to keep your little pilgrims busy this week. Both of these took no time at all to set up and complete, but they were a huge hit with my three year old. Plus I think they turned out super cute!! Who knew that Q-tips make the perfect paint brushes for small hands. First up we worked on making Indian Corn. Here's what we used: Crayola Washable paint vanilla cardstock Q-tips (I put out regular and baby sized) paper bag ribbon All you do is cut the cardstock in the shape of a corn. Then you dip the top of the Q-tip in the paint and make random dots all over your paper. Told you it was easy. I had her make dots until she couldn't see any more paint. That way we had different shades of the same color. She used all of the colors once. I encouraged her to spread the dots all over until she couldn't see anymore paper underneath. Once she used all of the colors once, I let her mix the paints and come up with new shades. Once it was dry, I took a small paper bag and cut our some husk shapes. I gave them to C and let her crumble them up to give them a good aged, weathered look. We then glued them to the top and added a decorative ribbon. I love how they turned out and they will make some cute, handmade additions to our Thanksgiving decor. Since we already had the paints and Q-tips out, I decided to go ahead and use them to make a pretty Fall tree. We used the same paints and Q-Tips. I grabbed one of the trees we used for this project and simply glued it to a piece of cardstock. I then told her to add as many colorful Fall leaves to the branches as she could. I was stunned with the outcome!!! She followed the branches to begin with and had fun adding leaves and mixing colors. She then started filling in the space between the branches creating a beautiful Fall tree. The trees are still green and holding on to their leaves here in Texas so this might be the closest I get to a stunning Fallish tree. I love that she added some falling leaves and a few on the ground. As she was painting, she started telling me that she was making Fletcher's favorite tree! Fletcher and the Falling Leaves was one of the books we shared in our Fall Booklist a few weeks ago. It's an incredibly cute story. I was excited that she remembered it and applied it to this project. The only thing she asked me to do was create a hole in the tree for Fletcher to live in. Q-tip painting! We will definitely be doing this technique again in the future. While you are here, be sure to check out our Thanksgiving Booklist. We also worked on some turkey projects, but I will save those to share later this week. Good luck with those holiday preparations!
My LOVEin Heart I loved this sew along idea and posted the pattern link HERE Found some fabrics to sew along HERE Fell in love with this creative Heart Variation by Quilt Jane Here Went back to the fabrics to look for red for the heart and a pink for the star and decided on the red dot for the background. Played some more with the design and the fabrics and the kitties HERE Master Quilt Kitty Katniss supervised on this one. Together we decided on these fabrics, adding the gray mottled crackle for the border points to bring out the gray in the print and make the heart stand out. The small heart print on the left will be the binding. Played some more with the layout and the kitties. Did some sewing. Here is my completed top! My top measures 42" square including the 5" floral border. I used the charm quilt size pattern Here is what I cut to make the heart variation: Background Fabric (Red on White Dot): 12 squares 4 and 1/2" 9 squares 5" for the Half Square Triangles 1 square 5 and 1/2" for the Half Quarter Square Triangle Center Square (Floral) 2 squares 5" for HSTs Heart Fabric (Red) 6 squares 4 and 1/2 " 9 squares 5" (HSTs) 1 square 5 and 1/2" (HQST) Center Star Square Fabric (Pink) 6 squares 5" (HSTs) Outer Star Points (Gray Crackle) 6 squares 4 and 1/2" 11 squares 5" (HST) 1 square 5 and 1/2" (HQST) Border (Floral) 4 width of fabric strips 5" I am really happy with this one. I had intended to use the Hello Sweetheart Charm pack and the scrappy version of the original layout, but this has now been saved for another project. Love my stash! Hope to be quilting it soon! :-)

It's so nice to be greeted by faces and names that we are getting to know from your blog entries each week! We are delighted that we are developing into a group that is beginning to know one another, and we only hope that you will continue the great work of commenting on each other's blogs. We have been amazed by the quality of comments too. So often comments on challenge blogs are merely polite remarks about the DT examples, but here so many pertinent thoughts are being aired. SO many people have mentioned how much they have gained from this experience. Long may it continue. There are still some people who have not turned off Word Verification, we would ask you to do this please, in order to shorten the commenting process and enable us to visit more people! On to this week's challenge and this time it's a recipe. 3 S Q U A R E S Chrissie For this card I used the Cracked Glass Technique I began by stamping the (Joanna Sheen) butterflies in Versamark onto white card and heat embossing with fine detail, clear embossing powder. I then sponged the images with SU Pretty in Pink ink using a sponge dauber. Following this I used some SU Sahara Sand ink to sponge around the images. Next I cut out the squares with a Nestie, deciding on the best angle for each one so that the three as a whole would complement each other. The script stamp came next, lining up the three images so that the angle of the script was consistent. Then I stamped the whole of each tile in turn with Versamark and heat embossed them with clear UTEE [ULTRA THICK EMBOSSING ENAMEL](2 layers for each tile). The tiles were then put in the freezer for half and hour When taken from the freezer they were bent into a curl and straightening them out and bending them in the opposite direction causes the cracking effect. You can see the effect in this close-up. And now it's me Mandi Ok so as you can see for my 3 squares I chose them to be different sizes. The first one in black, I stamped the image with Versamark then heat embossed it with Silver Dollar. This was to bring together the 'silver' of the diamante in the flower centre. The second square is in a pearlised textured card, to match the liquid pearls on the stamen dots in the flower centre. The last small square is embossed with the swiss dots which works with the silver! No technique, just placement really. For my flower, I stamped first onto the same white hammer card of my card base, then stamped 2 more images onto white vellum. Whenever I stamped a flower head I feel it looks better to be shaped, whether it has extra layers or not. I shaped the petals, some to the front [think you can tell on the enlarged piccy] some to the back, using my scissors and thumb. The card layer was only shaped slightly, but the other 2 are more so. I made sure I shaped all the petals the same way as each other on every layer. This is the card I made first, but, then made the black and white one. But, my buddy Chrissie says I should have still put this on too! So here you go...... Papers are Pink Petticoat little tag is Stampin Up Last week we had 199 fabulous entries, thank you all, maybe next time we'll make the double ton! We have had one request for a tutorial on sponging, if you have any specific requirements do let us know... if we know how... we'd be delighted to pass on our knowledge! New cards only please....no back linking
