Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 1,3, Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (Abteilung Alte Geschichte), Veranstaltung: Der römische Staat und die christliche Kirche in den ersten zwei Jahrhunderten, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der Arbeit soll herausgearbeitet werden wie, warum und woher der Kult der Magna Mater nach Rom kam, wie er sich dort entwickelte und verbreitete und schliesslich wie die frühen Christen über ihn dachten. Die Behandlung dieser Themen beginnt zunächst mit der kurzen Wiedergabe des Mythos und der Darstellung der Herkunft des Kultes als kleinasiatischer Kybele-Kult. Nach Veranschaulichung der geschichtlichen Ereignisse und Gegebenheiten zur Zeit seiner Einführung in Rom, der Legenden um diese und der römischen Tempel der Magna Mater, wird dann das wichtigste Thema, die Ausübung des Kultes in Rom, chronologisch abgehandelt und zusätzlich noch ein kurzer Überblick über seine Ausbreitung in den römischen Provinzen gegeben. In dem darauffolgenden Exkurs wird unter anderem am Beispiel Tertullians die Meinung der Christen über den Kult gezeigt und kurz auf das Ende des Kultes und seine Gemeinsamkeiten mit der christlichen Religion, sowie andere noch heute verbliebene Überreste eingegangen.
