VINTAGE ANGLING ACCESSORIES All items come from the same angler in France. The collection consists of: One hand-woven and shaped wicker creel with a separate canvas bag attached to the front and leather shoulder strap. Probably early 20th Century in date. One galvanised bait box. Probably early 20th Century in date. One turned lignum vitae priest. Probably 19th century in date. All items are in used but good usable vintage condition with some wear commensurate with age and no serious issues. The creel measures approximately 40cm wide x 30cm deep x 25cm high (including canvas bag but excluding shoulder strap). The bait box measures approximately 25cm wide x 15cm deep x 13cm high (excluding the handle). The priest is approximately 21cm long x 3.5cm in diameter at the widest point.

Lignum Vitae (Bulnesia sarmientoi) heartwood is dark greenish brown to almost black and sharply demarcated from the pale yellow or cream-colored sapwood. The texture is very fine; grain is strongly interlocked; a slight scent is evident when warmed or rubbed. It has a characteristic oily feel due to the resin content that may be as high as one-fourth of the air-dry weight making it difficult to glue. With sharp tools and patience, it turns well but due to its high resin content, sandpaper will quickly clog up. The resin is also responsible for its poor gluing properties and synthetic glues will get the best results. Common uses for Lignum Vitae include tool handles, mallet heads, bearings, bushings, bandsaw blocks, pulley wheels and turned objects. As a part time resident of the Grand Bahamas, Michael found himself in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 storms that devastated the Islands. Having found so much inspiration over the years from the native forests, he was heartbroken to see the once lush landscape stripped bare. As he joined in on the relief effort for the island he began to notice one tree that seemed to have survived the storm. The Lignum Vitae tree has the densest wood in the world which earned it the name Wood of Life. The National tree of the Bahamas, it remained a constant after the storm with its purple flowers displayed like a beacon of hope.
